RE: U Can Do 3D

I just ordered a UCD 3D 60 size for winter flying. I fly giant scale 3D planes and wanted to keep my thumbs tuned through winter (4-5 months) . I have an OS 120 FS I will use on the UCD 3D 60 and wanted to know if any one used this plane/engine combo and how well it flew? I have seen guys using the YS 140DZ which weighs a few oz more than the OS 120 FS, but they did not say how well it 3Deed. Can the Ys 140DZ set up guys post their views as well.

just flew mine for the first time today and all i can say is what a peice of crap.
just kidding. first flight i almost crashed it because it was so squirly.
i then landed and check my cg with my good friend and we decided to move it forward abit.
was at 6 now is at 5 1/2 with a half a tank of fuel.
didn't think cg would make that much of a difference.

You should always measure cg without any fuel in the tank !

i have a ys140dz on mine only put 1/2 oz of lead in tail. you haft to put about 3 deg. of right thrust . you will have a blast with the 120 on it. a friend at our club has one with os 91fx that has a lot of power.

I am bulding the wing now and cant find the exit holes for the servo extensions. Can someone show me where the exit holes are?

RE: Dumped my UCD46

Diablo, the exit hole is covered with monokote, but look and feel carefully and you'll find the outline of the hole.

Does anyone have a suggestion for how to route the fuel lines on the U Can Do w/ a YS 120? Do I need a third line or can I splice a T into the fuel line to the fuel button?

Birdy, I've got a YS110 plumbed up with only the fuel line and the pressure line. I tee'd into both and ran the lines down and out the bottom of the cowl. I fastened them with velcro so they don't hang out but are accessible when I fuel. I pull one dot to vent then pull the other to fuel up. I've decided to clamp the fuel entrance to the motor before I fuel because some of the pump pressure is forcing fuel into the engine and overflowing from the carb. Makes a mess I'd rather not have. Don't forget to vent after flying or the same thing can happen. You can barely see the lines in this pic. I'd take another but it's in the Jeep and to nasty outside to go get it. :)

I see your fuel and vent line, but what is that black thing that looks like a hole?

People who promote the use of fuel dots instead of filler valves never seem to mention what "I & C Tech" discovered. That when you fuel through a tee'd fuel line the fuel flows both ways out of the tee, toward the tank and toward the engine thereby overflowing the carb. I currently use a Sullivan filler valve to fill the tank and have been hoping to find a simpler way to do it. It appears that fuels dots are not the way to go.

Thats not always the case though. If you are using a fuel regulator with fuel dots/tees you will not have the same flooding of the carb.

This is the best fuel method I have found. The "Kwik Fill" fueling valve by Dubro. Part#334. It just splices into the fuel supply line. When you insert the supplied fuel niple it automatically shuts off the flow to the carb. Pretty slick. They sell a mounting bracket to mount to the firewall (wood) but its just as simple to use a piece of aluminum angle. You can also mount it right on the fuse. Joe

Joe, FWIW do a search on the fueling valves from Dubro and GP. They tend to develop air leak after some time. I had returned a few new ones for refund some time back. I use fuel dots now. I like the one from Madison

Joe I've tried those and they work well at first, but soon the little o-ring inside the valve will go south and you'll have a leaky mess. That is the case with both the Dubro and the Great Planes quick fill valves. The concept is great because it allows for a really neat sleek look, but I've found that they all soon leak and cause a mess.

How long have you been using them?
