U Can Do 3D
Call Tower Hobbies, and they can tell you what number to call Great Planes. I actually got a number and called GP to inquire about their new plastic cone /alum back plate spinners. You actually won't get put on hold.

U Can Do 3D
I bought mine from LHS. I called him first thing after I discovered it. He ordered me a new ARF. He told me to go ahead and start assembly of fuselage, and leave wing along. That way I could put busted wing in new box and sent it back to Great Planes.
I called LHS on Monday morning, I should have wing here thursday or friday. |

Shipping damage to you or your dealer is not in the province of Hobby Services, the warranty center. That's between the shipper and the receiver. If your kit has shipping damage, you need to talk to your retailer.
Hobby Services will handle actual defects in parts and workmanship of the original manufacture of the model. We're sorry, but shipping damage is not a manufacturing defect. We hope you find this information helpful. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at this email address. I knew this was going to happen. My arf box wasn't damaged at all. No dents, no scratches, no nics, nothing. Seems like about 5 out of 10 (probably higher than that)of these planes are damaged.
So instead of manufactor admitting that have a packaging problem. They blame in on the courier. I can see me trying to get a new wing fro UPS. |
U Can Do 3D
Embalmer,
Have you seen the Poll yet on U-Can-Do's with or without damage?? You are right about a lot of these planes are being delivered damaged. If the box isn't damaged. The damage had to come from somewhere. IMHO, Great Planes needs to find out what's going on instead of just saying UPS is doing it. I'm not a fan of UPS either, they have broken and misdelivered enough of my stuff. But it does appear there is a lot of unexplained damage to the U-Can-Do's than can just be chalked up to "shipping damage". |
WOW poor form Hobby Services
Wow !!
Now that was unexspected !! Our boxes have 0 dammage no marks and its the Couriers fault wow that is bold !! No way will they cover that my friend !!! I started this to just chronicle not to look impatient with updates. sorry if it looked that way guys just chronicling did not exspect a next day response. I am not paying to ship my wing back for 20 bucks !! Thats crap. as well. Not on a 200 dollar new palne. Great planes better step up as this is one of those high profile problems with the plane so popular. Like I said Hangar 9 stepped up and did the right thing. I have no faith now from that Statement that Great Planes will do the same. |
Sounds like a little box.....
damage would fix most of this.....
Too bad you have to do stuff like that to get your damaged plane fixed.... Pug |

Latch66,
I saw and responded in the poll in that thread. I do believe this is a packaging problem not a shipping problem. I can understand if the boxes were damaged. But mine and my brothers boxes were untouched. It looks like the typical business stragity. Blame the other guy. I do believe Great Planes needs to admit the problem. And try to fix it. Otherwise they are going to make alot of people mad. Including hobbyshops. |

Remind me never to order from my LHS again (Hobby Services)
:( Very poor attitude |

Friends,
Until I posted, I saw people talking about _shipping_ damage. If the model arrives damaged, and the box isn't scratched, crushed, punctured, and so on, then packaging _may_ be an issue. We're not trying to deny anything. Actual shipping damage is not a warranty event. We do take these posts to heart, and will work with anyone who contacts us directly to see what can be done to help them. We hope you find this information helpful. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at this email address. (Please be sure to copy all previous emails into any future questions.) DID YOU KNOW that our web pages now all contain FAQs? (Frequently asked questions) Please drop by and take a look! We hope you'll find the information helpful and valuable to you. Sounds Good
Bill,
That sounds very good to hear. My E-mail is in your Que I sent it 2 days ago no response yet. E-mail title was broken wing for U can do 3d. It was a special order at my LHS. I opened it myself from the UPS box it came in and it was mark free. The Kit box of course had no marks as well. We even gave it a once over at the shop. I did not notice it really till I went to cut the servo holes out and I held the wing and it was squishy and then I noticed the pieces rattling around inside and could see the leading sheeting was not like the other side. Looks like 2 mabe 3 ribs broken inside. |
Hangar Nine's UltraStick 60 had/has same problem
I bought an UltraStick 60 from my LHS a couple months ago...
Got it home and found the ribs crushed... seems just a little pressure on the box would transfer that to the two wing-halves that were inside, stack upon one another. Took it back to the LHS, he called Hangar Nine and they arranged for a new wingset to be sent... He also ordered 2 more UltraSticks at that time, and guess what ?one of the two came in with broken ribs... Here's the deal... Your LHS puts in orders every week. If he's taking care of it, there's no extra shipping, it's taken care of by their rep on the next order. If you mail ordered it, then you are in for a bit more problem... but even then it can be taken care of... I bought a Weston Cougar from mail order (only place to get them) and UPS damaged it in shipping... They company called UPS arranged for them to pick it up and then sent me another one... If there are THAT many U-Can-Do's coming in broken, then it is a packaging issue. UPS is getting pretty darn strict about manufacturers packing their products well. Seems you can't blame UPS if you put a dozen eggs in a padded envelope and they arrive broken... Still yet the place you bought it from has first responsibility to arrange for amendments... |

I'm putting my UCD together presently.
Has anyone considered putting JR8411sa servos all around? Is there any problem areas that may require a "little" beefing up? So far, from what I've gathered viewing the UCD3D post, here are some of the more popular suggestions: ENGINE: Saito 100, YS.91, OS.91FX PROP: APC 15x6 (for above engines) FUEL (nitro): ? RIGHT THRUST: 1.5-2.0 degrees BALANCE: 6.5 from LE MIXES: Flaperon and Spoileron EXPO: ? SERVOS: ? CONTROL HORNS: (the kits?)(I perfer 5-40 or 6-32) (yes 5-40 not 4-40) CONTROL RODS: ELV.=4-40, AIL.=?, RUDD.=PULL/PULL BEST WEIGHT: 7.5 Feel free to add, change, delete, comment. PS. Mine was shipped from ChiefAircraft, doubled boxed, not a scratch or crack. I suspect when they are ordered from your LHS they arrive not doubled boxed along with all the other item coming into the LHS. :( |
U Can Do 3D
here is my setup and I test flew mine three times yesterday
Saito 100- 15X6 Magnum 30% fuel (GREAT STUFF) 1.0 degree right thrust 5" from leading edge 3 8411's in tail, Hitec 625 on ailerons expo 30%, High Rates 40%, 3D 60% 4-40 rods, and metal horns I honestly think this is the smoothest and best plane I have ever flown other than the couple of 40 percenters I have flown. I could not have been happier with mine. I broke in my saito with a 14X8 and it would hover with that prop on there. On the third flight I proped up to a 15X6 and 3d performance was Unbeilivable, Everyone out there could not believe how stable it was in a hover. The 8411's in the tail are I think part of it. Myers, I strongly suggest using the 8411's in yours, you will not be dissapointed, I know it is a little extra money but to me that precision is worth every bit of it. I would not go with any bigger than 4-40 rods, if you do you are just adding extra weight. Remember the key to this airplane is light as possible. As far as your engine selection go with the saito or YS, I chose the saito because it is just as powerful as the ys and it is ligher. I was running pretty rich of course but my tach readings were 14X8 9600 15X6 9400 Magnum 2 30% fuel Kris |

"Shipping damage is the responsibility of the shipper." What's so evil about a statement like that? Sounds like responsible company policy to me. Obviously, Doo-Doo-Can-3D wing damage is a result of poor assembly or packaging practices (how much can you expect from a bunch of 5-year-olds in a Chinese sweatshop?), and Great Planes has a great reputation for making good even if the problem isn't necesssarily their fault. You people are so wound up, ready to break out the pitchforks and torches and go on a witch hunt... Jeez.
We've all gone round-and-round with companies over damaged goods packaged in perfect boxes. I know how frustrating it is, but it's no reason to jump to a conclusion here. Wait'll somebody DOESN'T get their crunched wing replaced before forming the lynch mob! |
U Can Do 3D
I got my new wing in today. I went tru my LHS. As always he came thru. New wing is in perfect condition. To bad my first 1 was busted.
As of right now i am going to finish putting mine together. I am not going to put on my wheel pants or cowl. I on using Saito 91 w/ 15x4W. I am sure that is going to be enough power. but if it don't work. i want have to get a new cowl. I don't think the Saito 100 has that much power over a saito 91. |
U Can Do 3D
I'm thinking of using an OS91Surpass w/o pump - do you think that will have enough power for the UCD?
|
You gotts be kidding me !
3 days to get. "go to your dealer back from hobby service"
after Bax stated "We do take these posts to heart, and will work with anyone who contacts us directly to see what can be done to help them. " Well I contacted you and you blew me off , guys get your story straight !! Well off to the LHS he is going to be real pleased to have to deal with this. |
U Can Do 3D
If you use the 91 Surpass, you might want to use 15x4W prop to get higher rpm. If it swings this prop over 9500 rpm, it should do well in 3D
|
U Can Do 3D
thanks for the info seanychen, any recommendations on a brand of prop? tower hobbies perhaps?
|
lets see the 3D
OK Folks, here I go.
Got this thing together after a few weeks. I have been out of town. Interesting set-up I went with. 3004 servos and a 9101 on the rudder. Stock servos arms except for the ailerons. OS 91FX. Stock linkage. The madness behind this, is to see if I will strip regular servos and how much will the stock linkage will bend. I don't have much of a selection for props. Hobby shop with good selection of props is 85 miles away and we have a Big Bird starting tomorrow....so I have a 14-4W and a 16-6 Zinger. I got the 14-4, see what it does. Weight right at 7 pounds, however that is the bathroom scale, so I don't know the true weight. YNOT Mods: Tank on the CG and a 2oz header tank, mico servo on the throttle with it mounted right behind the tank, Aluminum control horns and I ran a strip of carbon fiber along the trailing edge of the horizontal stab, hope it doesn't break off. I will run it though the paces in the morning. By tomorrow afternoon a decision will be made and expect flight report. |
U Can Do 3D
ok dumb question but i'm new to all this. I currently have a few radios, my most recent being a futaba 9ca. I'm putting together my ucd and I'm going to use hitec servos all around. I'm also planning on getting a cheap hitec 7 channel receiver. When I went to buy my servos, there is an option of jr or futaba with the hitec? Does this mean the connectors on the servo leads? If so what am I supposed to get? I'm going to use a hitec HIT23872 Receiver 7ch FM Supreme . Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks. David |
U Can Do 3D
Order Futaba. Futaba and Hitec are 100% compatible. Hitec and Junior are not, however you can purchase Hitec equipment for JR.
