U Can Do 3D
Not all washers have the same thickness. I use 1 each thick washer on the left top and left bottom. This setup gives me 3 degrees of right thrust. It seems to fly and hover fine w/o torque veer.

YS120SC weight/CG
DKjens, how much does your YS120SC weigh, and where's your CG at this point? I've got a brand spankin' new Saito 1.80 that's been sittin'round awhile and well, I've been thinking. I've ordered the UCD and waiting for it's arrival so I don't have a refferance. Do you think a 17x6 would clear the ground w/ the stock gear?

Fuel tubing size for OS 91 fs
For you guys using the OS surpass 91 II. What size fuel tubing are you using? Standard or large?

Surpass II
Medium for me as well.

im going on gas
Got my U can do tonight. and made all the measurments of the fire wall. my RCS 1.40 will fit perfectly with the stock motor mount. this engine has rear exhaust pits stile muffler. Ill be useing a 17x6 prop.
I hope ill be able to reinforce all the week areas of this plane with out meassing up the looks of it, like the fire wall and landing gear blocks. |
Loose Turtle Deck ?
Has any one else had a problem with a loose turtle deck that leads from the end of the canopy to the stab? It appears that the bent balsa sheeting is glued to the fuselage bulkhead pcs. but not to the underlying balsa sheeting on the fuselage sides. You can actually feel the two pieces separate when gently squeezing the fuselage sides (as if you were picking it up). I also think I heard it rattling when the engine is running. I ran a whole 2oz bottle of medium CA along the inside sides where the two pcs. of balsa sheeting are supposedly joined. It seemed to have fixed most of the problem.

Yay
Hey guys,
Finally picked mine up tonight. Had to wipe off the box before i got her into the house........... :sunsmiley hehe. Anyways, i think im going to slap a saito 100 in her, this seems to be the overall best motor from what it sounds like, is this correct? I dont want to go with the huge 1.20's, but i want good power. What do you think? |

U-3
Hi I finally got mine dialed in dual rates expos where i like it and motors is getting broken in I sealed ailerons that seamed to really crisped up the role rate I have a 91 OS FX 16x4 APC tach it today I am getting 9700rpms hovers about 1/3 throttle pulls out with authority . GREAT PLANE lands slower than a trainer Mark,

UCD 3D Video part 2
Here are some other 3D manuevers (elevator to harrier, blender, inverted flat spin, knife edge spin, so so waterfall, rolling loop, rolling circle)

mecam UCD video part 2
mecam,
Great video! Is your UCD 3D powered with the new Saito 100 w/16x4W or the old Saito 90 in this second film clip? ______ jmboss |

mecam,
Did you have to add more side thrust with the Saito 100 vs the 90? Thanks. _______ jmboss |
U Can Do 3D
Is anyone flying this plane with a OS 1.08?
What props? Thanks, Mike |

I just got back from flying today with a Saito 100 and man what a difference. On the 91 it was swinging my 16x4W at 8600 but with the 100 it was up to 9800~9900. The pull out from a hover is like a 2 to 1 power to weight ratio. I also used the same right thrust configuration and still flew straight vertically. In my opinion, the Saito 100 is the perfect engine for this plane. |

Mecam,
What fuel did you use on the Saito 100 16x4W? I was turning only about 9100 rpm with my Saito 100 on 10% nitro Sig fuel. How about the throttle response with the 16x4? Mine setup result in very slow spin-up, like 0.5 second from idel to full. |

Lots of mix needed for knife edge
We have three UCD's in our club (number 4 on the bench) They all use YS91FZ's for power and have CG's about 5 1/2 back. Mine and one of the others needs very little mixing for knife edge flight. Mine needs only a little down and the other needs a little up mixing. The third one, however, pitches much more violently down and rolls opposite the rudder. With the control surfaces centered it will fly straight and level with almost no trim changes. He already has a lot of correcting mix in it but it keeps happening (especially the pitch down) Does anyone have any ideas why this plane is so different? What else should we look for? We've been scratching our heads trying to figure it out. When side by side the control surfaces seem identically positioned and are centered. The pushrods are all 4-40. Loops are straight and rolls are axial, hovering is easy.

Chris,
Mine flys straight and pretty neutral too, but also has the strong pitch down with rudder, and with a lot of rudder it rolls too. I'm almost wondering if the rudder or elevators on some UCD's are more flexy than others... it might explain why only some of them exhibit the trait. I really like the plane, but if I could get rid of the pitch coupling I'd be in love... David |
