Look forward to your report Frankeldan.....................
I have a lightened zdz40f3a that I thought about placing in the GP 1.60 Reactor... with CF pipe..... Would like to hear how it flys........... Also, GET A PIPE ON THAT ENGINE!. |

Also for those that want a WOnderfull motor....(IT is a real jewl) and some of the smoothest ports I have ever seen..........
You need to check out the Evolution 45GX gas engine.......very light and very powerfull...... Puts out as much as any top-end 50cc engine...... Great closeout price at Chief aircraft.... 400$ shipped~~~~~~~~~ You can't pass that up!! Sorry if this is redundent for some......I just want to spread the love.......... |
RE: GP Cap 232
Wow after reading 1350 postings starting 6/8 /2006-through 5/8/2009 it is hard to draw a conclusion about this plane. It has some good points, but there looks to be some re-work that should be done. How many of you guys are still flying this Cap232? Thanks Capt,n

Still flying mine!

I just got mine up in the air a few weeks ago.
I still haven't dialed it in yet. The balance is way off and it's tail heavy. This week I'm moving my tail servo from the tail to a pull/pull in the middle of the fuse. I'm running a zdz40 with a 20/8 prop. The thing is ballistic and will do vertical out of sight. Plus - Light plane and well built Looks great Lots of room in the fuse Minus- Balance issue with mine soon to be resolved 1 piece wing is HUGE and cumbersome at the field. ( I perfer wing tubes) Landing gear with wheel pants a bit soft. On a hard landing it popped thru the bottom of the wing.. (minor fix) I really do like this plane. I'm sure this week I'll take care of all the minor stuff I need to do to make it a great flier. Later, Dan |

RE: GP Cap 232
I love mine, actually, i fly it the most of all my planes.
Weight was 15 pounds fueled however i haven't weighed it since. Engine is a DL50. One of the problems i have noticed is while the plane hovers close to idle :D. I can't stop it from torque rolling. [:o] So that kind of makes it difficult to hover if you can't keep oriented, which i can't. The one piece wing is HUGE but you get used to it. At my field, this plane has been noted by many people for its super slow knife edges, easy rolling circles, magnificent inverted flat spins, and waterfalls. |
RE: GP Cap 232
Keep it on the nose heavy end of the CG until you get used to landing it. Replace the gear with gear from the GP Extra (it's stiffer and will save you props). Triangle stock and pin the firewall, and engine box. (very important if you are using gas). Had a problem with my first one breaking the engine box.
The servo mounts in the wing are glued to the ribs. this means that the servo mounts are supported by cross grain balsa, It is best to peek inside the servo mount and put a piece of balsa with the grain going perpendicular to the wing Chord to keep the balsa from splitting (this happened on the one I have, luckely I noticed it before it got bad) really simple fix and makes it much stronger. Other than that have fun with it and fly it like you hate it. It can take it. It's a pretty good plane , not as good as some of the bigger 50cc's but it's ok, and very light. Here's a video of mine Setup: DL-50 w/ slimline & xoar 22x8 Futaba S9155 on everything but throttle (don't skimp on servo if you want the snaps crisp) Castle CCBEC for power W/ 2S 1300mah lipo Pilot (made my own) Might sell if the price is right. |
RE: GP Cap 232
I just bought one off of tower on the cheap. I have flown two setup with 50cc motors. I am putting mine together on the cheap and on the light side with a BME 44 I picked up. I found it a great plane for just 3D flying or bashing around. I will post up my build thread soon. I honestly bash my planes hard and my friends have flown this plane with great success.

RE: GP Cap 232
Check this out.
My gas tank leaked due to the crappy tank or the "upgrade" I did to a Sullivan Aluminum Stopper.. Well I had it in the garage all week, got to working on it yesterday not knowing that I had a leak and all the foam in the Turtle deck disolved.. arggg... So I'm ripping out what's left of the foam and going to give it a light coat of fiberglass cloth. I also decided to switch over to a push/pull in the fuse instead of using a rudder servo in the tail. Way too tail heavy with the zdz40 in it. later, Dan |
RE: GP Cap 232
Dan,
How does yours fly with the ZDZ 40? I am guessing the performance of the BME 44 to be somewhat close. I imagine the AUW will be similar also. I have only flown the plane on 50cc motors. |

I have only flown the plane on 50cc motors. Mine flys great with the ZDZ. Unlimited vertical. Hovers no problem very fast down lines. I'm running a 20x10 Menz . I messed up the prop on the safety bench so I just bought a TBM 10X8 and a Bambula to try out. Later, Dan |
RE: GP Cap 232
Just wondering what everyone's thoughts were on a 2700mah NIMH rx pack. The cells appear to be AA size and 2700 should be more than enough for a couple flights before a recharge.
|
RE: GP Cap 232
Depends on servos and how they are setup. What servos are you running, are you going to be doing 3D?
|
RE: GP Cap 232
Digital DS120's and yes all I fly is 3D!
|
RE: GP Cap 232
I think I would go with a un-regulated 7.2v Lipo around 1800mah. Digital servos in a 3D plane require a lot of current. NIMH can't deliver that much current, especially AA cells. You won't get full performance from your servos because the pack won't deliver enough current to the servos. It will regulate it's self, you will get quite a few flights out of the pack because you can't draw enough current. A 2S lipo or A123 can deliver the current and these servos are rated for a 2s lipo. If you are running fasst you won't have any problems with the voltage. I think spectrum is ok too, but you might want to check. A Futaba 3001 servo can handle the voltage for your throttle servo. To make a long story short, it will fly with that setup, but you may be blowing back surfaces because the servos are underpowered.
|
RE: GP Cap 232
Well I might go with another NIMH pack then. I had been running a 2700nimh in a AW Extra 260. If it were one of my 28-40% planes sure I would run a lion, A123 or Lipo but this plane is my cheap beater and flying test bed for equipment really.
The servos are mainly what I am testing and they have been rated at 7.4v. The specktrum RX is also rated I believe up to 8 volts. I do appreciate your input! Again if you look at what I normally fly and build yes I always go with the perfect 3D setups. However, in this case, I am looking for a way to test out gear first before it goes in other stuff and also a good beater! |
RE: GP Cap 232
Plane about finished. Had to get a few custom bits ($$$). Made up some stand offs out of scrap I had from my build table. I am a perfectionist when it comes to something like this so I am taking my time. The last push should be this week. Drill press is back home so I will need to locate one to drill out my prop.
FWIW I think this plane is a great value! |
RE: GP Cap 232
Actually i have an OS 160FX and OS BGX-1 for this plane. Wich engine works better on this CAP? I know the BGX is a big than the 160FX engine, but the 160 seems with better muscle. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance. |
RE: GP Cap 232
Well,
whatever engine you decide to install, i'll be really happy to see some pictures of your plane! If i recall correctly, some months before, i came up with a video (on utube?) with the cap and an OS 160FX upfront. It flew gracefully! I wish i could help more, though. The BGX will also be good, but weight and consumption "want" some thought! Konstantinos Athens/Greece |
RE: GP Cap 232
I have a 2.10 Moki , close in size to your bog OS and its quite impressive power wise and fuel cunsumption wise.
|
RE: GP Cap 232
Thanks Konstantinos. AjsToyz where are the tail servos on your CAP? on tail?

A note on the tail servos.
I have a zdz40 in mine and it balances out way too tail heavy with the rudder servo placed there. Not a pleasure to fly this way, believe me. Last night I switched it over to a pull pull with the servo by the wing. I also had to move the batts all the way up to the firewall. It seems to balance out much better this way. Hope to get a flight in this weekend with it this way. |
RE: GP Cap 232
 The BGX is heavy than the ZDZ... btw how much inches is your cg from LE?
|
RE: GP Cap 232
I have not had a chance to finish mine, its sitting about 60% finished for the past 6 months or better. I have the 2.4 Brison with a 20x8 prop on it. I'll post when I can finish.
