Thanks for taking the time to post those Skillet. They'll be alot of help to me, in planning the layout of mine. Yours looks great! That muffler looks good. I ordered one today also. I'm running 2 elevator servos. I know its not necessary but they are easy to set-up on this plane. I think I'll mount my throttle servo on the rx tray. I was wondering about a servo for the choke, but if I put a Sulivan smoke writer, battery and tank in it, it's going to get pretty heavy.

I have not mounted my cowl yet. It looks like its gonna be a pain to do.

The tip for soldering the nuts to the angle tabs was a good one. I was able to solder locknuts and not melt the nylon insert. Like somebody said, it is much easier to do before you glue the wings together.

I agree, soldering the nut on was a great idea. One more tip, you need to have a good hot iron to do this. If the iron is too small it will heat slow or not at all and that is what distroys the nylon insert. I have a Weller WES51 Analog Soldering Station and set it to 3/4 power to do the job and it worked great.

It was rainy weather here today and grandchildren are gone so should have progress pictures tomorrow.

couldn't JB weld be used instead of soldering?

I can. I used a form of the gorrila glue that has low expansion. Worked great. I had mine already together and just did not want to take a chance at hurting the covering.

I do not know because I have not tried other options but one thing is sure; anything that holds it for you will work. The method of attachment does not have to withstand the rigors of flight, only the travel from home to field and the final assembly before flight. Please pass on any other attachment ideas because there are too many hands required without something.

A 30cc gas engine on a non-reinforced firewall is against my religion. Somehow I've got to get to the backside of it and glass it or something.

With the DLE 30 mounted as per the manual, I've noticed that there is some slight up-thrust. Has anyone else noticed this? I searched the thread and can not find a pic at the right angle to see it.

There is and it's been mentioned in this forum (by me...). Since no one else was seeing a problem, I decided to fly it before trying to do anything about it. Flies fine. Didn't do anything.

There has not been any traffic for a while so I thought I would share a few minutes of breakin time for the engine. This is my first video upload so hope it works. Yes it is very rich but I like to do that for the first six 10 minute runs.

You may notice that I changed the registration of the airplane.

Thanks,

jimm

Been putting off ordering the Waco, but finally broke down, due in tomorrow. I have been used Hitec servos with karbonite gears in my other planes. Seems like some years ago there was something said about not using these in gassers. What servos are you all using? Thanks for the help. By the way, my vote is for the DLE30 rear mount. Panhandle don

Have a dle 30 in mine and it is plenty of power. More than needed. And i have always been advised to only use metal gear servos in a gasser. Not much more in price for a better, stronger servo.

Thanks, I was thinking metal gears. I noticed you opted for the wraparound muffler. looks good.

I was finally able to spend some time on mine and it looks like the maiden will be this weekend. Before that, I need to get the sledge hammer out to get this spark plug cap on the plug!! [:@]

Why is it so hard to put on?

Hey Hill202; cannonball200 here If you will take a flat blade scewdriver and insert it in the slit on that cap & twist it just enough to open it slightly it will slide right on the plug. That is what I did and I also used that same method to remove it from the plug. Look at skillit's picture about three above this and you can see the slit on the front center of the plug cap. Just spread it ever so slightly enough to slip it on the plug. I have read where several other guy's have had this problem also.
Thanks,
Eddie

Thanks Cannonball. I finally got it. I put a little WD 40 on it and put on some thick gloves. That thing was tearing my hands up.

Is there anything special in regards to flight characteristics that I should be aware of? I have not weighed mine yet but it feels a little heavy. I put a choke servo and dual elevator servos in it. I may end up regretting the additional weight.

Mine does not have the choke servo but does have 2 elevator servos. It weighs about 14 1/2 #'s without fuel. It has the Dle 20 so has a little less weight there but has some alluminum motor mounts that add some ounces. It flies awesome and floats in on landings like it weighs 8#'s. I set the controls like the manual stated and it is right on. You're going to love it. Skillit's is set up like yours so ask him to compare with you.
Thanks,
Eddie

If yours is 14.5 lbs than mine should be around 15.

I'm looking forward to flying it.

I've seen three of these things fly. Two with a DLE30 and mine with a 26cc. The thing is very forgiving. You'll be able to fly it fine unless the CG is way, way out. And you'll see from how it flies how it's balanced. Look for the tail to fly level.

It will be a little slower with that 20cc, but it will fly great.

Regards
Michael

Hay Pilot P51

Do you have a flight report with the Saito 125?
