Rob, can you just cut out what you need from the mount PLUS move the cowl a little forward to get the space you need? It's ok to be a little long on the nose. I don't think you will hurt the mount badly if you cut a little out of it...look at the cheap two piece mounts usually given with many ARFs...they work when I have had to use them. Just a thought. I have a YS63 on my Stinger II. It must be shorter than the Saito, as there were no issues getting the distance to the prop washer needed. My Stinger sings with this engine...very quick, loads of fun. Get r done! Jon

Thanks Jon.<div>I am prepared to move the engine forward as much as needed. Just trying to minimize the amount of tail weight I may need to add. I wanted to try a 4 stroke and the 72 seemed like a popular choice and the same length as the saito 65. I will try to balance it by clamping the engine on before I drill or cut the mount to see if I can balance it with the battery. If a lot of lead is needed I will cut the mount and move the engine back as far as possible. I can always add some blocking to mount the cowl ahead but I don't think that will be needed. I can always fly without a cowl. I like a little challenge when building so it is adding to the fun.</div><div>

Well, got the engine mount cut. Worked out not too bad. Now just wondering about the throttle linkage. If I mount the engine inverted I shouldn't have too much trouble. With a side mount it seems a little more tricky. AKitoi how did you mount your engine and which way did you rotate the carb? Is the high speed needle up or down? I need to make sure I have enough room for the glow igniter if I do an inverted mount.

So I just went and took a look... I didn't end up cutting the nosewheel mount, but I did squeeze the motor as close to the firewall as possible. I mounted mine with the highspeed needle pointing up. The carb opening is pointing down. (when the engine is out of the plane)
Like I said earlier I did use the throttle linkage. (its actually a DuBro part)

nylon bolts will only break if you tighten them too tight (or if the ground reaches up and runs into your plane) , or have a really small bolt size. I have 82 inch wings held in place with 5/16 nylon bolts... and do some really high g manuvers.... never a breakage.

finally got some time last evening to get the motor all sorted out. the low speed mixture had to be leaned out quite a bit to get it to idle without the glowdriver. new issue: not sure if its the torque coming from the motor or what, but I managed to break the posts inside the spinner. so right now I am spinner-less. I think I will get a aluminium one the next time I am @ the hobby store.

Well, not enough glue I think saved it! Lol took it out today and the wind was gusting. It was about time to land so I went to bring her in. The first try was not looking good so had to bring it back around. When I got it about 10 feet from the grass the wind died down a little to much and did a little belly flop. Gear and firewall removed, the wheels make nice holes in the wings too.
after looking closer, the little bit of glue it had pretty much let it come apart instead of breaking. Will be easy to fix, and probably really get messed up if I pull that again!

I would tear up the skies with it doing just about anything I could put it through. I had the OS 46 ax with the pitts on it and the thing would climb over 100ft vertical. It lasted me the whole summer until I bailed on approach and flipped it into the runway. Almost three years to the day that the last post was made in this thread, lol, so I am reviving it! I have not flown my Stinger 2 for about 2.5 years because I got the heli on my brain disease, and also had worsening cataracts. First planes not to be flown due to lousy distance vision was the small fast ones like the Stinger 2! Well, I had cataract surgeries in both eyes in February this year and now am 20/20 in both eyes again! Holy moly I love being able to see so good again, and now I can bust out the small fast planes again. So the last few days I had to overhaul the YS63 in the plane because it had no compression due to stuck push rod sleeves. Got it sorted out and replaced the flight pack with a new one. It was off to the races today, and I forgot how much fun this plane is, especially with the revitalized YS63 pumping out power to spare like when the plane was new. Had two good flights after a first one to sort out tuning the needles. Some pics on a perfect day in the PNW:
