AL,
I have searched around some but didn't find my answer. I am to the point of installing the fuel tank and engine along with the cowl on the Lancair. I bought a GP Easy Fueler Valve but I'm not sure now that that will work well. I am using an OS 61FX and the Top Flight in cowl muffler like the instructions describe. I don't see how I can tell when the fuel tank gets full since the vent to the muffler will not be disconnected as is typically done for an overflow. I currently have a two line setup to the fuel tank. I would much appreciate some guidance on how best to make the fuel system work well.
Thanks
Richard

I will tell you how I set mine up. First off, I used a three line set up on my tank. One line for the pressure, one for the fuel, and one for an overflow. On the over flow, I positioned my brass tubing like that of the pressure line, just slightly lower than the pressure line. I ran a piece of tubing from the overflow out the bottom of the cowling. When you fuel up, fuel will run out of the overflow, letting you know the tank is full, and it will keep fuel from filling your pressure line. Be sure to plug the overflow line with a screw after fueling, if not, you will not be able to pressurize the tank. I also have an EZ fueler like the one you've spoken of. It works just fine, but I wish I would have used a fuel dot instead. The EZ fueler fuel fitting can be a pain to insert and take out of the Fueler itself at times.
Good luck with your Lancair, it's a great airplane!

Thanks for the reply. One thing I didn't notice on the Top Flite in cowl muffler is that there is a small hole in the outlet pipe at the base of the muffler that will let any fuel entering the muffler drain out. It looked before like the mufffler would hold a lot of fuel before it would run over into the outlet pipe. I am going to go with the EZ fueler and see how it works out.
Thanks again

I used a Dubro fuel filler valve in mine that is mounted on the side of the firewall that slightly extends pasts the side of the plane. This will let you place and remove the cowl without disconnecting any lines. Just cut a hole in the cowl at the point where the fuel filler valve extends past the edge of the plane for the valve to be used. Works great.

I just look through the front wind screen at the tank to "see" when it gets full. The tank is simi-transparent so you can actually see the level in the tank. If you have trouble finding the level, just shake the plane a little and look for fuel moving in the tank.

I have slimlines new F1 system on our newest lancair. It works well and looks about as good as can be expected without hiding your fueler in a hatch or something. You can see the F1 cap in the attached pic. It requires a 3-line system. Fill, carb, pressure. Used Dubros' easyfueler on a lot of other planes and really think that is the way to go. 2 line system using a check valve. No muss, no fuss. This F-1 fueler leaks at the intake fitting until you replace the cap...runnin' all down the side of that 80 hour arf. What, you aint' spendin' that kind of time on this plane...shame on you :-)
I bought a more transparent fuel tank, as I remember the difficulty seeing the fuel level in the very opaque tank that comes with the kit. This plane is so fuel efficient (OS .91) that I see no need to fill the tank to overflowing. Just wastes fuel and makes a mess. We fill till it gets very near the top. The less-opague tank really helps here.

Richard, I have my fueler installed similar to "Roll On" with the Top Flight in-cowl muffler and it works great. As Paul said you can see the fuel through the front windscreen as it fills the tank. Also, if your pit area is somewhat quite, you can hear the fuel running into the muffler as it over fuels. It's kind of a gurgling sound. The effect is somewhat immediate. When you hear the sound - fuel will soon be pouring out through the muffler exhaust extension.

On the Lancair that I built, I used the three line system described here except that I had the line going to a fuel dot hooked up to a line in the vent that was angled to the rear & bottom of the tank. That way, the tank can both be fueled & de-fueled. The fuel dot was mounted on the front of the firewall with a 90 degree mounting bracket from Sig Manufacturing and a hole was cut in the cowl to clear the fuel dot. I have had problems with the EZ Fuelers sticking and/or leaking, so do not like to use them.
Good luck with your Lancair. You will love how it flies and it will always get a lot of attention at the field.

You guys are great !!!
Thanks so much for taking time to post your thoughts on this. I never realized that the thank is very visable through the windshield, duuhhhhh . That will help a lot. I will try the GP easy fueler since i have one, and will mount it on a small bracket to the firewall. Access will be through a hole in the cowl. I think I can mount the bracket such that the conncetion point will be just a bit behind the cowl. This is the last issue that needed to be resolved.
Thanks again
