GP Super Stearman
#1029
Since I have the 50cc engine on order, I will look for the GP Giant Aeromaster instead of the Stearman.
Love the Stearman though, but I guess it's better suited for a smaller power plant.
Thanks

Well I am putting a CRRC Pro GF50I in mine.
I already have the plane,l I am just waiting for is the motor to get here.
It should be here in a day or two.
I am going to start a build thread when I start the project.

I agree, this is not an airframe for a 50cc motor. Even thought that motor is a small 50, it is about twice the motor needed. I only have a Saito 150 in mine. Want to sell it now before you destroy it?

My friends 1/3 scale Pitts is a real hot rod whth a Brison 50, and the stearman is considerably smaller. I think it will rip the porr plane apart. He's being a bit greedy, they fly fine with a 26, and a 40 max would make it totally crazy with power. The Stearman is a crop duster type plane, not a high speep stunt plane like the Pitts. Just a big lumbering teddy bear...

I'm not putting the 50cc in it planning for it to be a speed demon.
I have the CRRC GF26I in a 70" 11+ lb Laser 200 and I know how it performs, Which is great.
I am thinking about aero drag of the big cowling, two wings, and extra weight with a full smoke system.
I am planning on the plane in the 15 1/2 - 16 1/2lb range.
I am not figureing on wide open unless in verticle or monster loops.
Which will look outstanding with full smoke and this sytle plane.
I'm looking for awsome verticle with a 16 1/2lb bi-plane.
Believe me, I'm not planning on ripping it apart, I have hard core planes for that stuff.

Seems like you Stearman guys don't think the poor old bird will take or should have some real power.[
]
Maybe I should have gone with a Waco, seems they aren't afraid of some real power.

Just kidding.
The video shows the kind of verticle I am looking to get out of my Stearman.
DARE TO BE DIFFERENT, 50CC THE STEARMAN
If we all flew the same thing, what fun would that be?

Can you guys point me to the post number / page where the correction is for the aileron linkage?
It's kinda hard to find with 40+ pages.
Thanks

You guys are really confusing yourselves. [sm=spinnyeyes.gif] Why do you want it make this plane into something it’s not. [sm=confused.gif]If you haven't seen this review I suggest you read it...http://www.greatplanes.com/reviews/gpma1350-rcm.html.
The power to weight ratio is the point. How much weight will you have to use to balance the plane? There comes a point were adding any unnecessary weight really defeats the purpose. What you gain in power you lose in control. It would be like flying a brick…you can make it fly but it will be hard to control and even harder to land. My suggestion for what its worth is to go with the recommended engine sizes or their equivalent in gas…a 150 four stroke at the most.
But if you insist in throwing you money away, I'll send you my address and you can send it to me...I'll put it you good use!
Good Luck and Happy Flying! [sm=cool.gif]

I already told him to send it to me. I agree with you completely. It doesn't matter if you have a Laser that is similar in size and weight, they are different air frames meant for different power. And it has also been said that some people will do whatever they want and that is what makes this hobby interesting. It is just a shame to do something that is clearly not wise. I guess it is doable and all I can say is good luck. I hope he comes back on here after it dies to tell us we were right!!!!

I would think if you made a hatch in the tail , mounted all the radio and battery eqipment back there a person could keep the weight at a flyable point.. I do think however that the motor will probably tear the wings off and make the firewall seperate from the rest of the plane. I made a top cowl hatch in mine to inspect everything, add some glue, and I am not sure it would have held up very long with my toro 25 without it.. As it is the landing gear pulled loose with a fairly decent landing in some rough grass.
Its definately an airframe test !
