It only takes 2 minutes max to remove the cowling...
I agree with Shubova... The Stearman was not designed by Boeing as a zippy stunt plane like the Pitts. The were a big floating work horse. I want mine to fly as they did in the 40's, slow and predictable. Why are so many people so power crazy ? More folks need to concentrate on learning how to land correctly before they start doing stunts. I've seen many great stunt and 3D pilots who simply cannot land good, and in alot of cases, really suck at it.
Landing is the absolute most important part of this hobby, period.

I would like to ask a question. How long dose it take to get this plane ready to fly? Is it hard to install both wings and the wires? Would this plane be able to set side ways in the back of my truck? Would the wind from going down the freeway be a big problem? I have a F 350 crew cab dully with a 8ft bed. Any ideas on how to do this? I always put my planes on the inside. The back seat folds into a bed. Thanks for your help

About 18 to 20 hours, no, yes, and put a strap over it for transport.

When you get to the field, how long dose it take to install the wings and have it ready to fly? Do you know if Zenoah engines are any good or not? What would be a good engine choice? Thanks for your help.

Hi,
I’m in the process of installing the rudder and tail wheel. Does anyone have any comments or suggestions concerning the tail wheel? Is anyone using a different setup?
What do you think about that goofy setup with that little triangle piece at the bottom of the rudder? Seems like it could have been done more simply and stronger. How does it hold up?
Thanks,

I don't have to do that, but my guess would be 15 to 20 minutes. Build or buy a small trailer for it or get a small pickup truck or van.

Dont use the stock tailwheel, get a leafspring tailwheel for it. I got one for a 15 to 18 lb plane.
Epoxy the triangle piece on, it won't come off. I cut a groove in that piece, and have the tailwheel spring holder bracket epoyied to it. It aint come off yet, and I doubt seriously that it even will. I'll post a pic in a minute, I need to take one for you.

I think the 50 is way too much power and vibration for that airframe. My 26 fly's mine just fine. Maybe a 30 would be ok, but a 50... Yikes !

First of all, it is not a DA 50. I think it is a DL 50 which is smaller and lighter but a 50 is still toooooo much power for this airframe. Good luck, I'll give you $300 for it right now.

I was using my friends Brison 50 as an example. Did I accidentally say DA 50 ? oops !
Gregs Brison 50 would tear my Stearman apart. I wouldn't put more than a 30cc engine on it. I want my plane to last. Thats why I don't fly nitro anymore. OS=oil soaked.

A 30cc is more like it. Who makes that motor? Now I am serious, good luck. Looks like you modified the engine box?

Mine is an SV26, runs like a top, but I had set the timing at 30 degrees BTDC (was 10 deg off), had to add a choke (from weedeater), and when the ears broke, I ground them all off, and added an aluminum plate between the reeds and the case. As you can see by my video, the 26 flys it just fine. Maybe a 30 would be nice, but I don't need any more power. I like my planes to fly like the real one's. A 50 goes nice on a 1/3 scale Pitts though...

It is a CRRC Pro GF50I.
Not sure yet what prop I gonna use ( 20" or 22" ).
Epoxied the inside of the firewall.
$300- and it's yours ( plane only ), I really need some funds for my other project ( 35% Yak 54 with a DL-100 ).
BILLERICA, MA shouldn't be to far, I am in New Jersey.
No way to ship it since wings are completed ( too large ).

Dont sell the Stearman ! Just get a smaller engine for it. A 26 flys it slightly over scale, a 30 would be awsome for it, and a 40 would be a freaking rocket !

I personally have never heard of a 50 on one of these. You could try it, but I think you would agree with me after one flight. I think it would be like having 90 on a 40 size plane. hahaha !

Not going to buy a different motor, either I'm flying it or selling the airframe.
I changed plans, Stearman isn't my main topic.
I need to get my Yak in the air, but I gotta get $700 in servos.
I'll continue to finish the Sterman, and if nobody buys it, I'm flying it.

That's like me, I have a Spacewalker .75 size with a OS 1.20AX in it.
My Laser 200 1.20 size had a OS 1.60FX in it till I put in the 26cc gasser.

$700.00 in servo's ! I only paid $800.00 for my truck ! I have $750.00 total in my Stearman. I guess your not into scale flight at all. The Stearman is a slow flying lumbering bipe. It's not made for speed, but it will do nice aerobatics. I don't think you would be happy with it if your into doing 3D. The Stearman flys like a crop duster...

The $700 in servos are for the 35% Yak 54 project.
I would sell the sterman to buy servos for the Yak.

I have all Futaba S3305 servos in the Sterman.

Robinhood, My bud said go for it. He thinks the 50 will work fine. He said to drill and pin the firewall so the 50 don't rip it loose. Other than that, it should be fine he said. Go ahead and give it a try. I think once ya start flyin the Stearman, you will want to sell the Yuk. lol

Hi,
[sm=72_72.gif] Did anyone change the setup for the elevator servo. I really don't like the 2 push rods attached to each other with collets. [sm=spinnyeyes.gif]
Any ideas or suggestions? [sm=49_49.gif]
