My BME 50 is waiting for me at home with a carbon fiber 22 x 8 prop. Hopefully with a little luck, I will have the engine mounted by the end of the weekend.
Thanks for everyones help. I dont know what I would have done without RCU

I have probably used 40 Hitech digital servos in the past 18 months. Never had a problem with a single one.
Plus if you get the programmer you can reverse a servo direction, so you dont need a differant channel or an expensive reversing y on the elevator. Revesing y s are about $40.00 each after 4 planes the progammer is paid for. You can run servo diags, you can alter the speed, range of motion, centering point and deadband.
And then reset to factory defaults.
IMHO Hitech Digital servos cant be beat.

As soon as I get the engine standoffs, I'm off to the races.

Flew my PW today--Taurus 2.6--(BME 50 is plenty of power) Multiplex servos--Zinger Pro prop. Regardless, 60 oz servos are plenty. The elevator is super sensitive. All of the control surfaces need very little travel. I had a ton of throw in the rudder--then I hooked up that stupid tailwheel arrangment. I am going to LHS and get an Ohio ASAP. The tail wheel would not let my rudder travel the complete distance--the result-- my Multiplex Profis bent the rudder rod.----To give you an example of how solid this bird is, I climbed way up to do a stall check and it turned into a Harrier.

How do you like the Multiplex, are they worth the money?
Also, I have heard these are programmable like Hitecs, is this true, and if so, how is it accomplished?
I have this arfy thing, and it will need servos, engine etc.

I'm heading off to the garage after dinner to mount my 3W48B2. But it is cold here in OK tonight and I'm going to have to fire up the kerosene heater.
Does anybody have a feel for the max prop diameter that this bird will tolerate? I'm going to the LHS tomorrow to get a prop and I am also considering a three blade prop because I have heard that it will reduce noise.

I love Multiplex servos. They are MCV2--Yes they are programable--this makes it nice when hooking up the rudder. The newer models are not. However I have a number of the older ones that I can program so I am OK for a while--(you can get a LOT OF THROW WHEN YOU PROGRAM IN 180 DEGREES). Shame they quit making them. With the newer models, I hear the programer only works to reverse them. Aerografixs can give more information than I can (PS-the Multiplex programer was $45)

The Multiplex McV2 servos are very much so programmable, as a matter of fact they are the first to do so. As for the hitec programable, the Multiplex designer went to work for Hitec and that's why they now have them.
Multiplex stop producing the programable servos except for reverse rotation because people were using this feature initially as a novelty but hardly used them, so for the cost of production Multiplex decided to come out with the Digi servos which are only programable for reverse rotation. They a bit stronger, smoother and less expensive then there predecessor.
The programer was around $35.00 while Hitec is well, much more expensive.
The new programer for Multiplex serves also as a servo exerciser and cost only in the $20.00 or so.

For anyone that'a interested I just installed some springs I picked up from home depot as a replacement for the stock tail wheel setup. The springs are about 2.5" long and less than 1/4" round and hooked into the horns and tailwheel easily. casters freely without binding up the rudder and less weight

I ordered the GP 300s 1/4 scale yesterday from Chief. After reading this thead I couldn't resist. Also, ordered 5 Hitec 5625 digital servos but still undecided about what engine to order, glow or gas. The two engines I'm looking at are the Moki 2.1 and the BME 50. The only small gas engines I ever used are in my lawnmower and weedeater. What I'm trying to say is I need some help, gas or glow, for this plane? Thanks in advance. Russ

I'll probably go with the BME 50. Is Chief the only retailer for this engine? They on on the other side of the country and it takes forever to receive products. Are there any mail order BME dealers closer? I live in Tampa, FL. Russ

This Extra is certainly a great kit. Mine is sitting in the workshop waiting for me to finish what I am working on. My question is for you guys that have put the Moki 1.8's or 2.1's in yours, have you had to add an additional fuel tank or is there enough capacity with the tank that is supplied with the kit? It appears that the tank is a bit small.

Hi Scale,
I've got two extras. One completed with a Moki 2.1 and the other waiting on a gas engine (Hopefully the BME 50 if I can find one at a reasonable price). The Moki usually flies 12-13 minutes, semi hard but not full throttle all the time and I use about 2/3 -3/4 of a tank. Depending on the flight time you want, I find this size tank acceptable.

Thanks for the fast reply. That is good news. The Moki it is then and with the supplied tank. 12 - 13 minutes is enough for me too. I have a 1.8 so it might even do a little bit better with fuel economy. Thanks again.

WOW -- I can't imagine---
Got a Taurus 42cc in mine--substituted a 12oz hayes tank mounted just in front of the wing tube--Of course I use throttle management--get close to 20 minute flight with fuel left over

A few years ago I ordered a BME 44 for my 29% AW Edge--took over 3 months to get it. One of the LHSs quit carring Keith's engines because it took so long to get them--It was not because he is across the country. It's good to see that some people are able to get them now-days.
