Waiting on 300S to arrive and have a question. How many servos are required for this plane with a BME 50 installed? Never had gas before and have not ordered engine. Do you install two servos for the rudder? Besides the throttle servo for the gasser are other servos needed for this engine? Also , if I use two rudder servos do I install them in the rear to balance this plane with the BME 50? Thanks Russ

Yes I used both rudder servo's to help balance the bme 50. It is still a smidge nose heavy but flies very well. You will need 6 high torque servos for ailerons rudder and elevator and 1 standard servo for throttle. make sure to keep all radio components 10+ inches away from the ignition components by using a nyrod or similar from throttle location to motor. You will only need a switch-charge jack setup for the ignition to turn it on and off and charge the ignition batt. Just like glow just set the carb to close all the way to shut it off triggered by a switch on the transmitter. If your going to fly IMAC with it I believe an additional kill switch is required. You will LOVE the power with this combo

This plane weighs about 10# out of the box, So unless you know of an extreeeeemly light gasser, I don't think thats a realistic goal. But please, if you can do it, let us know how.

You may not realize this is a 26-27% airplane. 27% length a little over 26% in WS. as obtained from the patty wagstaff site. I dont see how any plane in this size could come in at 12-13 lbs. If there is one out there please let me know. Mine is 15.5 lbs and lands like a trainer

Ordered from Chief the BME 50 with stock muffler and the Dubro aluminum rail mount, with rubber off set. Larry said the mount that comes with the 300S kit is not strong enough for the BME 50. Is the stock muffler adequate or do I need the Pitts Muffler? And is this the right rail mount? Also, what prop should I use with the 50 a 20x10 or a 22x8 for break-in? Went to BME's home page and they don"t show the 50. Thanks Smallfly for your fast responce and will go with two servos for rudder. Russ

I find the stock muffler quite adequate, but noise is not a problem at our field. I am using a zinger pro 22-8 which is probably one of the more common props used on the 50
I upgraded to radio south 1/4 scale ca hinges as well

Are you guys using the hinges supplied with the GP Wagstall 300s or upgrading to 1/4 scale ca hinges or Robart hinges. If using Robarts what size? Thanks, Russ

My PW300 is now completed except for the CG and a connection to work the choke. Wgt is 17 pounds. I am not sure what made the wgt to top out at 17 LBS. I installed a Taurus 2.6 with a 1400MAH battery for the ign. I had to install standoffs to clear the engine box. I did not want to cut out for the muffler. My standoffs are 1.5 inches long and 1 inch in diameter. Wgt 3 oz total for standoffs. See photo attached.
I think The airplane is going to be a little Nose heavy due to engine being so far forward. I should be able to work around this okay. I used Radio South 1/4 scale CA hinges on all controls.
Looking for a way to work the choke without a big hole in the cowl. I have enjoyed very much reading about everyones progress on their PW300. I have picked up some good ideas reading these posts. Will advise how she flies.

U can use some of the Aluminum standoffs and save some weight.
Check out these sites.

Get rid of those wood ones. And make your plane lighter!!

to activate the the choke on my 3.2 i attach a 2-56 threaded nylon clevis to the choke. drill a small hole in the cowl that puts a threaded pushrod inline. you can align the clevis and pushrod through the front of the cowl.simply screw it into the clevis and snip it off the desired length.pull to choke push to open, when you want to remove the cowl,.........unscrew it..........simple and works great on my others

I added and extra servo for the choke on my 3W48B2. I tucked two servos in the upper right hand corner under the canopy. I'll post pictures tomorrow.

is anyone using the stock tank in the factory spot and is weight a problem since it is a 24oz tank or should you go to a 16oz one and move it back near the d tube to balance out better
