Here is a question....The standoffs that came with my DA50 put the thrust washer and just a hair over 6 1/2 inches. would that 1/2 inch really make that big of a difference in flight? I know the instructions call for 7", so am I gonna have to find some spacers to push it out another 1/2"?

I just finished three days of reading to get through this thread. A whole lot of great information here! I just ordered mine yesterday. Going to put my Brison 3.2 on her. Also will be adding smoke. Can't wait to get it so I can apply all the great IDEAS I've read about.
Thanks everyone!

The standoffs that came with mine are 2 1/2" long. I think those are the only ones he is shipping them with. I am probably gonna just stay with these, but then the red standoffs from aerografixs would match the red screws on the motor pretty good!

Let me know how it goes when you finally fly with the Brison 3.2 .......I'm doing the same for mine.
I'd also be interested in knowing how it balances with that engine

Will do! I'm so excited I can hardly contain myself. I probably won't have mine till the end of the week or beginning of the next.
Do you think JR 8411 servos are overkill for this bird? Those are what I will probably use!

I wonder How come more people don't use the Brison 3.2 engine?
They are easy starters, They have a ton of power, And they look good too! It seems like the perrrrfect engine for the PW Extra.

That's what i used. And there awesome. I figured that overkill was better than not having enough. If you have the $$$, go for it you won't regret it.

Somewhere in these 1600 plus posts I believe you posted the length needed for the standoffs for the Brison 3.2. Would you be so kind as to pass that on to me again. If I go through all those posts again, My wife will think I've lost it for sure! I would like to get a set ordered from Aerografixs.

Thanks for the reply. I have 6 brand new 8411 servos just waiting for me to do something with. I guess this is about as good a plane as any to use them in. I'm thinking about going with a pull pull setup on the rudder if the plane balances out ok. Do you think one would be enough for that?

Guys,
Was wondering if anyone that has used the H9 Prolink control rods could post what length you used on each control surface. I plan on ball links on each end of the control rod.
I am waiting on servo's and want to place another order for the rest of the hardware.
Thanks in advance.
Eric

Eric,
I used the 4" Prolinks for the aerlons and 2" for the elevators. I'm going to use 5/32 carbon fiber with 4-40 threaded ends for the rudder. The Prolinks are cool and easy.

OK guys,
I was out flying Patty today in the nice Southern California weather, when something very disturbing happened. I was in the middle of putting her into an inverted flat spin, got her on her back when something pretty large fell off the plane.
At first I didn't know what to do at first.... fudge my pants, or recover from the spin. Ok, got the plane upright and flying normally. Controls seemd fine si I brought her back to the field. The part was still slowly making its way down to terra firma. After I got the plane on the ground and my heart started again, I saw that my Patty was now a convertible. It was obvious that my pilot did not like my violent entry and decided to eject herself and the canopy. :sunsmiley This is a very lucky story because the canopy did not hit any part of the airframe. This is also the second canopy that I have heard of coming off.
SETUP: I reinforced the canopy rails with extra thin plywood and removed the wood screws. I used 2-56 hex head bolts and blind nuts to secure the canopy. Both bolts were tightened and loc-tite was used. Canopy departed 3 minutes into the second flight.
RECOMMENDATIONS: After fastening the canopy screws down, put some tape over the screwheads to prevent them from vibrating out.

I missed it??? why did it come off ????
Did the screws come out???? Did the plastic come unglued from the wood????
My plan is to use 4-40 hardware for the canopy and cowling with blind-nuts, and LLLong screws (about 1/4 to 1/2 to long with a little blue lock-tight on them to act as a lock nut or at least to put a slight bind on them) the same will go for the landing gear and stab half's!

I used 8-32 nylon bolts into blind nuts to hold the canopy on and after 52 flights no problems. The nylon bolts stretch and for the must part do not work loose. If they do, cut a thin piece of gas tubing and use it as a washer. Happy and safe flyng.

Rbeck: No I dont think the 8411's are overkill as far as servos are concerned,...I'm using futaba 9402's for mine
...as for the distance of the standoffs....the thrust plaof the engine should be located at 7 inches from the firewall....hope that helps you.
Deadsticker: I started this thread back in April of last year when I got my PW in after a 3 1/2 month wait, and it indeed was well worth the wait, I never thought this thread would take off like this, man I wish I had a quarter for every time this thread has been viewed
.....welcome both of you guys to the dark side ....but there's something I never told you........I......am your FATHER
