Seems to me Patty is coming out heavy......you guys are probably bouncing landings due to high wing loading.

Default Nope

Heavy is not the problem. My Patty weighs 15 pounds 7 oz and the wing loading is 30 oz/sq ft. Could it be that the heavier she is the better she sticks?

Has anybody tried changing the wheels or the gear itself?

Oddly enough, mine feels really light in the air and grooves well. Its a great airplane for IMAC.

Chad,

That engine is a 1/4" too long, not that that matters that much if you don't mind the spinner standing about 3/8" past the cowl.

The RCS 44B2 is a bit long. I'm now leaning towards a 3w 50. I searched this VERY long thread and didn't see anyone useing a 3w 50. Why not? It seems the bme and zdz 50 are the popular choise.

All my gas engines are 3W. I'm in the process of stuffing my 3W50i in this plane. The rear induction is a little more time consuming than most but they produce more power. I had to cut through the second part of the engine box due to the velocity stack I have on the carb. Not a big deal, just a little more work. It should pull this plane along very nicely. It came out of my Dave Patrick 330L that flew well with this engine.

Bryan,

I forgot about the overlap, you are correct.

If you don't need the engine let somebody that wants it, get it. When you try to resell people are looking for a deal.

Just my thoughts,

Andy

Mike G.

I have a 3W48B2 rear induction engine in my PW. I cut out the firewall for the carb to fit. It still has all of the openings in the extension that holds the firewall. Do I need to add a tube to bring air into the carb or can it draw enough air from the surrounding air coming through the cowl and fuse? I think I have read about installing a 1" Diameter tube to the outside of the cowl but I'm thinking that that was for when the carburetor was completely enclosed.

I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks,

Andy

Bryan,

I may be interested in the DA-50. If you decide you don't want to get it let me know. Then maybe when you call him to decline, you can give him my name to replace yours. If I go that route instead of waiting on the BME, I sure would like to move to the top of the wait list!

What is the price on a DA 50? How does the weight compare with a ZDZ 50?

FYI- anybody who is going to put a 3W 50 in their plane you might want to check about getting a 3W 50 in AIS you can get these from www.aircraft-intl.com, they have a beautiful finish, the head is sort of a bluish purplish.

You will have plenty of air for the engine without having to perform any other mods to the engine box. The easy way to tell would be to tach the engine at full throttle with everything in place. Make the engine move as much air as possible. While it is running pull of the canopy off and see what if anything changes. Then if necessary make mods to get more air to the carb. I doubt if you will need anything.

Thanks Mike,

I'm turning a 20 X10 Master Airscrew wooden prop at 6700 RPM with the cowl off so I have a good benchmark and will see how it runs with the cowl on. I can't get over how powerful the propblast is when I try to tach it from behind I literally have to force my hand forward to get the tach in position.

better than having to pull it away from the front, that could get dangerous checking transitions...
