WELL
Here is you answer if the saito 5cyl radial fits:

The valve covers touch the narrowed part of cowl...
I may cut out and shorten the cowl. not sure....but it is going into it..

the picture was quite dark so I had to edit it a lot, which then the quality is a bit off....

Hello All,

It's been awhile since I logged in. I too have a Stagger but has been setting on the bench for some time due to a lot of other priorities. Currently have a Saito 1703R on it but thinking of changing it out for the Enya VT240 or Saitto 200 V twin. Haven't flown it as yet.

Has anybody found a good substitute for the TopFlite dark red paint since they quite making it?
Who is selling th Enya VT 240 these days?

Hey John

I have a 170 Saito but I am using the O>S> 160 twin four stroke. Only use full throttle for take off, the rest of the flight 1/2 to 1/3. But then I prefer to fly scale like, so the 170 would be fine (I do understand most like to really overpower for safety)

Paint: well I had to use testor model master enamel gloss, and mixed to match

Hey John - I had the 170R3 in mine for one flying season and then swapped it out for the Enya VT-240. The 170 will fly the plane but you need a lot of runway (and a lot of resolve) on takeoff. You also need a whole lotta lead to get it to balance. In my case, it took 26 ounces. The big Enya eliminated all that lead weight and gives me power to spare. Here's a link to a short video of the plane equipped with the v-twin. I'm in the process of re-plumbing the fuel supply system and hope to have it ready to fly at Joe Nall.

A question, guys.
I have two Staggerwings. One has the wings finished, retracts and engiune mounted. The other is new/complete. I want to finish that one in yellow (see attached photos) but I'm not sure I can do it justice. Anyone know of someone who does such work? I'd appreciate any suggestions; can deliver w/in reason.
Thanks
Al

You can watch the classifieds and fleabay. They do come up for sale from time to time. I've got a spare that's still in the box but haven'd decided whether I want to part with it or not.

Have you seen or had any hands on with the Laser V240? I have a Saito 170R3 on it now. I think you in a post that once it was airborne the Saito pulls it OK. I do have a 3500'x175'w paved runway to fly off of. That should help.

I've seen a few Laser V-200's for sale over the past year or so. One of those would pull it. They usually go for a little less than the Enya VT-240's. The Saito 1.70 radial WILL fly this plane. I flew it off a 300 foot grass runway for a year and it needed every inch of runway for takeoff. Once airborne all was fine. If the runway were asphalt it wouldn't have been an issue at all. The only other negative about the 1.70 radial is that you will need a lot of lead on the front to balance it. Mine took 26 ounces.

They are 5" X 16" quite nicely done: there are several photos on this thread if you haven't already seen them

Hi guys!

Mine is now up for sale, too.... [] Only had time to put three flights on her in over a year!!!!!!

Here ya go: http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemId=650846

BTW... I picked up a NIB TF Staggerwing in 2009 at a swap meet... It is missing the hardware and has some bumps-n-bruises, but would be a great candidate for a re-cover / color change project if anyone wants one cheap...
$225+shipping for the readers of this forum.
Regards,
Wally

Just balance it, fly it and enjoy it!
There must be 30-different engines used on this thread alone and almost every one has been successful.
Look on youtube under staggerwing and see how great it flies with
The 1.60.
Lotsa power!!!

Well I decided to keep the staggerwing. The price went all the way down to $350 and my wife did not agree to sale it at that price. I even had a dude offer me $100 for everything RTF, I TOLD HIM I WOULD SALE HIM JUST THE SERVOS and he seemed mad lol. It was not even worth selling at $350. Well I have started back working on it and hope to get the tail retract and air system next month and then next year at tax return get the retracts.
