Looks like Ill get to test fly my Edge next weekend!

Installed the engine, elev. , rudd and throttle servs last night and just reepoxied everything in the front end and fuelproofed moments ago.
Checked the supplied fuel tank for leaks, would have replaced it, but, I liked how it is made to custom fit in the fuse.
Just cant figure any way to wrap foam around it and still get it through the hole in the ply former that holds it in place so well.
Guess Ill give it a try w/out foam and see what happens.

Im still amazed at how the elevator halves work so well with separate servos so far apart and on a y-harness! Go figure.

Now, just got to make some flying wires for the tail and break in the new 91 FX.

Has anyone used a 91 FX and a Pitts style muffler?
I have one, but, the pipes are not long enough to extend through the bottom of the cowl. This thing is $55 after I crank the engine, so, if theres a bettr one, please tell me.
I like the sound of the Pitts and the stock pipe is as big as a house.
Wish me luck, havnt flown in months!

Thanks Micro....I did the lateral balancing and had to add a 5 Rupee coin (about the size and wt. of the UK pound) on the left wing. Despite that, i had to trim it....seems like one of the ailerons is a little warped.

What is the size of the stock fuel tank? Just gives 10 min of flight!!
Also, the 3 plastic pipes in the stock tank, move back and forth easily.....hope that does not cause leakage??

Hi guys,
I have some questions.
My Seagull Edge 540 weighs in at 9.5lbs which after reading all this is just way too heavy. The wing itself weights 2lbs.
I've just checked the CG and it's about 3cm from the leading edge of the wing.

I use 9202 servos all round apart from 9204 on rudder. I have an OS 91 SX-H and approximately 500ml fuel tank with a header tank and perry pump setup. I have a 2400mah Sub C battery pack on board right up behind the firewall.

I seem to be having more than my fair share of failures. Today an elevator half came off in flight again (if you read earlier you'll see on my first flight an elevator came off followed quickly by the wings clapping hands).

My question here is, what are the weights you guys are at?

I'd also like to see the following info:
Weight of plane,
Weight of wing itself,
Engine/Prop combo
CG point.

my manual state CG 8-9cm of leading edge not 3 cm.

total weight 3.5kg
wing weight (complete with servos) 0.764 kg
Thunder Tiger 91 four stroke with 14-6 @10.600 rpm
CG 8,4 cm from leading edge

ours total weight 3.34kg os91fx with slimline pitts cg is 9.1cm, we have fiber glass on the wing and flying wires on the tail, we use only the best hardware and have had no failures what so ever.

Default Tail Strut Wires Required!!!

I love my Seagull Edge 540. And you cannot beat the price. I lost one of the elevator halves during flight, and upon inspection it was a clean break due to the fact that if very light balsa with lightening holes. I have since then added the flying wires and it is great plane, and there nothing it can't do!

My Setup:
O.S. 91 Heli Motor w/Brisson Pitts Muffler
6 JR 531 servos all around
Pull-Pull on Rudder
Powerflite Batteries

With this Combo hovers at 1/2 throttle and Unlimited Verticale!!!

What prop are you using redneck?

I was running a 1.20fs and found it to be a bit heavy to get anysort of extreme flying.

Once I ran the motor in it was well able to pull unlimited verticle and I sort of got a bit of a hover...

anyway, watch your elevator clevises, I used the factory ones and one split, I then got to watch my plane die a horrid death from the bottom half of an inverted loop .....

Am still trying to decide if I should rekit my engine / rx etc as I've lived the development of this model now..... or will I go for something a bit lighter that will take the 1.20 and really go extreme...

suggestions????.....

btw, to add insult to injury from that crash, the worst bit was loosing a €35 17*7 APC on the first flight... eek... my wallet still hasn't gotten over that.

Upgrade your clevises, while you still can!

we run the raz and the ucan with 91fx i am sure the ucan will do marvelous with the 120. guys run110ys and 135 moki's.

I just ordered the .60-.90 edge 540 and was wondering if an mds 68 heli would be enough engine for normal aerobatics, I'm not looking for anything extream or 3d just a nice aerobatic plane with enough power to stay out of trouble. This is a long thread and I was wondering if anyone could give me the break down of the the things I should definitly watch for, and or replace from stock.

Should be ok but I wouldn't expect too much out of it. Change the clevises and control arms. The engine mount screws are piddly, I'd change them even with the 68. You might find it a better move to go straight for the .90 2s. They are fairly cheap if you can see past OS. That's what I would use if I was doing it again, I'm thinking about puttin my 1.20fs in to a Flair 1.8m Spitfire. Thoughts Adrian?

yeah, but I think they land fast.... A guy at our patch always tells the story of when he spoke to a BOB Spitfire pilot. He said that the full size had to be brought in quite fast, landing speed was 5mph above stall (sounds like a Magnum) so why should the scaled down version be any different? (if it is remotely scale ish)

Well guys ups was here today with my edge and I just have to say that this is one nice kit, at least from my first impression. I'm off to the LHS first thing in the morning to get some extensions and some other misc. parts. It seems that the elevator is solid wood and the wing brace is a pretty heavy duty peice of hard wood maybe they have updated this kit with better parts? Are your planes the same? Anyone have any trouble with the stock fueltank and those nylon tubes? This is the first time I've seen nylon tubes in a fuel tank. Anyways with any luck and work permitting I'll have this thing built this weekend I'm still planning on using the .68 this is going to be my first aerobatic kit so I'm going to take it easy and when I think I need more I'll get a .91 for it. Till then I'll let you guys know how it does with a smaller engine I know all you guys are stuffing the biggest possible engine you can in it. I'm going to get a pull pull rudder system for it or I was thinking on putting the rudder servo in the tail any advice on this would be helpful.

I used a saito 100, 6v battery way up in that front compartment and balanced good with pull-pull rudder. I don't know what your engine weighs, but it sounds like you might be tail heavy without adding weight if you put your servo in back. Mine is still balanced for test flights
but I don't think I'll be moving it too far back. I think you should avoid starting out even a bit tail heavy and also avoid having to add weight with that (normal) size engine. Keep it light and it should fly great with the engine you have. Stay in touch. Randy

Hi guys Anyone have any trouble with standard servos being to big for the alierons? When I screw it down tight it's almost breaking thru the skin on top. Any suggestions on how to fix this I was wondering if it would be ok to just put some spacers between the servo and the wing, or should I break down and go buy some low profile servos? BTW I'm using hitec 605bb. Also I bought a du-bro pull pull rudder system for it today at the lhs I've never installed a pull pull system before any hints or suggestions I understand the concept I just have never put one in before so I would like some advice on installing it or maybe somewhere I could look for some good info.
