Default HORIZ. STAB BEING TOO WEAK

Hi everyone,
I read a post her on RCU were a guy had the Horizontal Stab break during normal flight.
I just bought a Seagull Edge 540 a few weeks ago. Im putting in a Hitec 605 servos on control serfaces and will be useing a 91 two cycle for power.
I am planing on puttting on wire struts on the rear stab for reinforcement.
I was wondering if this will be strong enough or am I going to have to go another avenuue.

miskin - the asp91 is a fine engine, perfect for the edge we run a 14x6 prop

nedyob - i think the stab wires are good but be sure to do it at the top and bottom, we use a thin brass tube and this is for us enough.

Adrian I have also decided to put braces on the tail. Is the brass tube strong enough? Im also going to Epoxy the firewall and landing gear areas that i can get at.

I have had the plane since Christmas and have finally decided to get it going. Should run ok with the 91fX.

Default RE ENGINE MOUNT

The motor mount comes intalled at a 90 degree angle to the side.

hi miskin
it's not important to fibreglass centre section of wing just look at main spar and put some pink zap on it (from the hole of wing servo cable.
look carefully at stab, my was hard an i don't put brace on it, but if you bent it put the brace(a carbon tube 4mm on underside)
my edge died last week due too an engine failure on hovering at 5 mt (15 ft) and crash after one year of honored service.
this plane fly very well, make aerobatics smooth and a nice limited 3D. the only think i disagree is that is a little heavy on landing,if you slow to much stall
look at pics of my edge post previosly.

best regards and happy fly

Default WHATS ABOUT THE FUEL TANK

Hello everyone,
I was wondering what you all thought about the fuel tank that comes with the kit. I did buy a 14oz DuBro and I also have a 14oz oval tank shapes like the tank that comes with the kit. Its a 14oz that came out of a Sig Extra 300XE
I would like to have a little extra fuel or added insurience toward the end of the 10 minute flight.
What tank are you guys using???

My Edge is almost complete. Any hints other than adding some additional glue to visible joints, fiberglassing the center of the wing, and adding some wire bracing to the tail? Where did you guys set the CG for the initial flight?

Thanks!

ok guys ive nearly finished the edge but i have a couple of questions......

ive set up the controll throw as the manual say's is this ok or can anyone recomend a more suitable amount????

im not planning on doing 3d just a bit of hovering (basicly because i can't do it)

also how slow can this plane fly (our runway is very short about 30 meter's) im just a bit worried i will run out of space on landing

any advice welcome

thanks

miskin

guys cg as per spec(manual) and go soft on the control throws on first flight get use to the plane then give it lots more, this plane can do almost all manuvers in 3d, hovers well and does the most amasing snap roll.

below something to keep and use for cg set up. best

I just have to agree with adrian if this plane is right it will settle down nicely. I did replace the stock axels with dubro spring steel axles and 2.75" tires. I fly off grass so I needed the bigger tires, and the stock axels will bend very easy, and are low quality in my opinion.

Plane flies SWEET! Maidened her today. Tracks very well at speed and responds well going slow as well. Just broke in my MVVS 91, so no hovering, but vertical was very good on a 14x6 prop, should be even better with a 15x6. Question though, It tucked a lot to its belly when knife, is this what others are seeing?

Thanks!

i also maiden ed today.. running a ASP.91 2 stroke 14x6 prop
after running in the engine at the field(4 tanks) it was time to fly....
ive only ever flown funflys so i didnt know what to expect .....it was being flown with the cowl off for extra cooling..... it flew nice the wind was blowing about 15-20 mph it didnt seem that fast(i thought it was going to be faster) but with the cowl off its like having a wall at the front the size of the firewall.....

it didnt seem to hold a knife edge just kept dropping the rudder is set to maximum movement(nearly touch's the elevator)????

had 4 flights in total and 3 HARD landings(bent the undercarriage) but i just bent it back.....i will be putting on the cowl ready for next sunday

also found that if i put full up elevator it loops rolls over and flys in the other direction without any other inputs just elevator anyone else have this???

Miskin you are experiancing tip stalling. This is very common to the edge and many other fully arobatic planes, when the elevator travel is high. Be wary they can get you in lots of trouble at low altitude. You can turn down the rate on your elevator, this can eliminate them completely I have my low rates just enugh to do a nice big loop anything more and you will start noticing that one wing falls when you apply more elevator.

miskin - i read a nose heavy problem if you are landing to hard. and the snap - check also lateral balance. easy on the control throws until you see how she flies.furthermore check your elevators for equal movement!!! very important.
