With that servo, if it binds at all you will tear stuff up. Been there done that. I now use futuba for the retract, S136G. Think thats right, I'm new to futuba stuff. 50+ flights on this one.. and 2 sets of retracts

Hellcat716,
How much did you reinforce the firewall? I thought the firewall was kinda of flimsy so I pulled out the hot melt (very easy), and am now making a piece to duplicate the cross shaped reinforcement out of 3/32 aircraft ply. I plan on glueing in 3/8 triangle stock in 1/2 sections around the perimeter of the firewall. That is the only thing I see that that looks kinda wimpy other than adding glue here and there.

I used fiberglass cloth and epoxy and went over the entire firewall where the firewall and fuselage meet. I have done this on all of my Hangar 9 warbirds and they are all holding up very well. Never had a firewall failure yet with this technique. Here are a few pictures of my completed Hellcat. Very nice and easy ARF to assemble.

Has anyone flown this plane yet off a grass runway? I want to hear how the retracts are holding up on grass runways.

No. I am not a scale master type of guy. I fly for the fun of it. Do not take it that seriously. I am not going to Top Gun with this model. I know there are a lot people that will bash the plane because it is not scale and the colors are wrong. I hear these comments all the time. You can recover the stab if it means that much to you. I will not bother in doing so because I do not care if it is right or wrong.

got the gear set up today..again, but right this time.......duh.
I stated incorectly that the hitec retract servo hs 75 is discontinued,.................its not
It'll just have a universal plug instead of two different ones for futaba and jr.
Im using the futaba, and tho its 10 oz less torque.it works ok.
The rod connectors were set at the second hole from center of the arm. ............that measured 13/16ths. So ,just gayya mount the gear doors.
Ive been tryin to upload a pic but keep getting a 500 error sayin fike too large, 901k?
beats me, must be sumthin .......
I'll try again

okay.heres the doors. These can easily be made with the stock doors, and 1/2 inch balsa. Just double the doors with the balsa, and shape them to the desired shape. Hollow out the inside, and attach em. Easy.

Mine's not anything like that at all. But if your unhappy return it to your LHS or call Hangar 9, they have excellent support. As far as the firewall being weak, are you planning on using a gas engine? I can't see using a 1/4" firewall on it unless you are. Otherwise it's just a wasted mod.

Redneckteddy103,
I totaly agree with you. Not only does mine have the same type of workmanship, it also had a cowling with the paper stuck to the paint, and the center section did not fit fuselage by a long shot.[:@] I have since recieved a new cowl, fixed the wing saddle, pulled all the hot melt out, and added push rod tube braces.
Now 2 weeks after buying it, I am finally starting to do the assembly. I will never ever buy another H9 plane period.
The first call to Horizon was an experience in it self.
The tech said, He could not believe I found something wrong with it. I told him to look at the pictures I sent to Horizon, and he said he did not have the time. When I demanded a new cowl, I was told they had no parts in stock, and they would need the old one back.
I was so pissed off, I called back a couple days later and low and behold they said they would ship one out that day. At that point I said "I thought they were out of stock" his responce was "I will round one up one up and ship it today, and will that make you happy".
That experience will stay with me when it is time to pick out another plane.[sm=surprised.gif]

i am building it for the lhs that i work for so ... and it has been worked out there is a new fuse on the way . and yes there is going to be the new zenoah 20ei hanging on the front of it so the mod is a must .

i deal with horizon , gp, and a few others from working at the hobby shop so i know what ya mean there just a little nicer to use due to we have there products
but the only downfall i see about the new zenoah g20ei's is when the battire is dead so is your engine i plan on puting a 4.8 volt 2700 mah pack in there for it so it should last whom ever gets it awhile
