Mine came in today! Now that is fast deliverey, shipped on Sat from PA and arrived in this little po-dunk West Texas town today by USPS.
Philreuman I will take your advice and change out most of the hardware with better stuff, go with the ASP 52, a little larger wheels and beef up all the week parts and joints. It is time to make a visit to the LHS ( which is 110 miles away) and get all the parts and pieces I might need, and of course a few extra items just to be safe.
I went flying today with my 8 yo Grandaughter and had absolutely beautiful weather. I flew my RCM Funster and a Slow Poke 40. The SP 40 has an OS 46FX and that is plenty of power for that plane. 1/2 to 1/4 throttle is quite enough to fly it well. The Slow Poke and the Funster are a lot of fun. Found out today that the Grandaughter wants to learn to fly, now that is great news. Guess who will be looking for a Trainer pretty soon?
Once again thak you for the info, good luck with your second plane, and keep those batteries charged.

OK, I have almost finished assembling the Ugly Stick 40 Bipe and philreuman really has some great building tips for this plane. I decided to go with the Evo .46 instead of the ASP .52 just because it fits better and I will use a little smaller prop for ground clearance on the 2C. Almost all of the slots for the hinges had to be recut to make them match or to come to center. I fly off of asphalt so I will use the supplied foam wheels. I changed the motor mount with one I had which fits the Evo .46 better but the one supplied would have worked OK also. I also moved the motor mount down to the bottom as recommended to get the fuel tank and the carb lined up a little better. I had no trouble with the slotted screws on the wing mounts. I added support under the servo tray since it was just a little light. Philreuman is right on about the glue joints, they all need additional glue. I used my heat gun on the covering to tighten it up a bit and found that the overlap in some areas was not stuck down very good and it would shrink and expose wood in some areas. I stopped that and got out the iron to stick the covering to the balsa. I will have to do a little patch job on a couple of areas but that still isn't reason for a thumbs down. I hope to get to fly this weekend and should have it ready by then. All I lack is finishing up. Thanks again philreuman for the lessons.

This ad is all over RCU showing the Bipe Stik for $118 but when you go to the Cedar Hobbies site its show the sale price as $128.99. Does anyone know how to get the $118 dollar price?

I have a Saito 40, 56 and 82. Has anyone found a perfect 4 stroke match yet?

I installed a ASP 52 on mine and it was more than enough power. Pers. Op. is that anything larger would be a waste. Remember the factory supplied landing gear is short legged. I bought a taller set of gear for mine and it worked out fine. Prop clearance is very close with the original. Mine has already bit the dust but not because of the planes ability to fly, only mine. This is a very fun plane to fly. I am in the process of rebuilding it into a monoplane. Like I said before this plane DOES NOT GLIDE.

Why do you think it doesn't glide? Are the airfoils too thick? Does it make dead stik landings hard? I haven't ever owned a biplane. If I like this I might look at an Ultimate.

it has the frontal area and drag ratio of cow barn. therefore more power and steep glide. It is about the neatest plane to fly we have in our hanger. my 14 yr old grandson makes it look like childs play. you really have to dumb the controls down to smooth it out. full throw it is almost too quick.

philerman is dead on. The first time I flew mine I had the "usual" controls dialed in and boy was it a hand full. Loops were OK but when I tried a role it was super quick, and that was FUN, almost out of control though. The first thing I did when I got it back to earth was reduce the throw as much as possible, then it was even more fun. It does fly very well and loads of fun. I just can't imagine someone needing more power than a good .46 two stroke or .52 / .56 FS.

I received my US Bipe from Cedar this week but the package was partially open, some of the balsa was badly dented and the fuel tank, landing gear and tail wheel gear are missing. I emailed Cedar to see what I should do but I think I should make a claim with UPS. Have any of you had this experience?

both of mine were complete and well packed. The guy at cedar hobbies is a good guy. he should probably replace it for you. Send me a list of what is missing. I may have the parts on my wrecked one. The tank and gear are easy to find and the tail wheel is as well but I think I have all of them.

we have an ultimate the same size as the US Bipe. It is nearly impossible to fly. It takes a highly experienced pilot and then it is more challenge than fun. The guy who gave it to us said it was "evil" and he is a real good pilot.

I have an e-mail in to Cedar. I don't expect a response till Monday. I hope you are right about them.
I haven't gone through it good enough to see if anything else is missing. It probably could have been packed better but it probably could have been handled by UPS better also.

I checked my scrap pile and the tail wheel is still on the wreck. I have the main gear or at least one that will fit and the tank some where around here. My first one crashed because we let the battery go dead. it flew around in circles above the field for 20 min before it finally came down.

I got one of these from e-bay today for 80.00+shipping. Going to put a 90dregee mounted os .46ax on the front and use it for a play plane. Lots of good input here. Any recomendations on what kind of substitute landing gear to purchase and where at?

I don't remember the brand name but I went with a lot taller gear for prop clearance. The supplied gear is mighty short but with a 2 stroke and 10/6 prop it should be good. It is a Fun, Fun plane to fly. Just be carful of the throws on the ailerons at first, a little goes a long ways with this plane. Like everyone has said it likes a lilttle power on the landings. It glides like a rock and flies like a feather. It is a hoot to fly though once you get use to it. I think it was just a little too much plane for my skill level and I ran out of air space pretty quick one day, thus the modifications, turned mine into a monoplane. I had a ASP 52 four stroke on mine and just loved it. I am flying the conversion with the 52 now and it works well on it also, plenty of power. Sorry I can't remember the name of the gear I bought but it is much to springy anyway.

it is easier to give it the "monster truck" look and put 3 1/2 inch foam wheels on it. you can probably find a picture on this thread. I fly an 11x7 on an os 48 4 stroke and this little low rider is fine with the stock gear and large tires.

I ordered large tires and new landing gear. After inspecting, the box was torn open and there were no tires, landing gear or tail wheel. I e-mailed the guy on e-bay and he won't return my message regarding the missing pieces but I am sure it wasn't his fault and it'll be too much crap to mess with a claim with UPS sooooo....I just went to tower and ordered all custom stuff..<grin>. I had another version of this plane a couple of years ago and it was a hoot. Someone talked me into selling it to them but I'm going to keep this one, (as long as it'll let me) and fly it now that 2 of my boys are solo'd. We'll have a blast burning up the sky together. I don't fly my giant stuff with them because I can't have a 150.00 plane wrecking a 4000.00 plane. I bought an OS .46AX to go on the front and it should be plenty of power. Gonna use a lithium ion battery and a regulator so I'll get plenty of flights without recharging and I had some Hitec 625's laying around that I'm gonna use for servo's.

I checked the web site today. The price shows $0. Are they giving them away.

UPS is geting worse as the price goes up on shipping at tearing things up. A couple of different planes I have bought looked like they had been drug under the truck instead of hauled in it when I got them. I have contacted them about this, but don't count on any help from them as far as standing behind their damage. As far as their insurance, save your money.
