Hangar 9 Twist 3D Part II - Thread Continuation

My Feedback: (2)
Three of us at my Club have Twists and we all use the nylon bolts.. Even with violent manuevers, there hasn't been any issue in using the nylon bolt. Just use one with a large head to spread out the load over a large area... make it as large as you can get and still fit inside the mounting hole.
No reason why you can't use a metal bolt either... but I've never seen an issue with the nylon bolt.

Thanks N1EDM. I flew the Twist again today. After just 5 or so flights I have to use JB Weld on the muffler to keep the back of it from spinning off. I also changed the tires from the stock Hangar-9 2.75" tires (hard) to the 3.00" non-treaded rubber Dubro tires (a little softer).[sm=teeth_smile.gif] I will add pics when I am at a place with faster internet.

Ugh, that's a shame about having to use JB Weld. I'm running a TT Pro 46, and don't seem to have an issue with that... but others have.
I just had a fun thought... I've got a OS -55AX and I think it uses the same bolt pattern as the 46PRO. Hmmmmm, are you thinkin' what I'm thinkin'?

Me to. I have a brand new O.S. 55AX and it does have the same bolt pattern (had one that was on another 40 size plane). I am going to wait until I get more used to the plane and need the extra power once I start doing more advanced manuvers.

I've got the pnp with an evo 46nt. I can't get full throttle anymore. I have re gasket-ed the engine, took the baffle out and bought new glow's. But no luck. Today I replaced the fuel tank and all the lines but still have the same problem. I also flushed out the valves. Any ideas?
I did notice that when i go to full throttle the gas runs back out of the line back and into the tank.

Air leak? Check fuel lines maybe replace them pretty cheep fix. may be the short piece of fuel line from needle to carb.

I spent about 5 hours yesterday step by step tuning and trying to get the engine to run but to no avail. As soon as I try to go WOT it sputters and dies and the fuel leaves the line and runs back into the tank and the engine dies. I checked for air leaks and used RTV sealant on the muffler to make sure I wasn't loosing pressure but no luck. MY LHS has a OS .61FX that has been sitting on their shelf for almost a year and the guy dropped the price to 120.00 so it looks like my twist will be getting a boost in power this Friday. Any other Evo owners out their had a similar problem?
Thanks,

Something is screwed with the plumbing. Higher rpm should mean higher muffler pressure that'd give higher fuel pressure. And that will push the fuel harder, not suck it back in.
It sounds like your fuel pickup might be able to deliver very light flow but sucks closed. Something like grass trash in the needle body can do that. Too long a fuel pickup (the clunk hole touching the tank wall) can also do it. Sometimes, a clunk that's fallen forward can do it. It's hard to predict what's causing it, but it does appear to be something causing a closed off fuel feed. And it only happens under strong fuel draw or faster fuel feed.
Hey, easy test is to rubberband a tank to the side of the nose and see how the engine draws from it. If it still dies, then the blockage is probably in the carb. Trash can get into the needle body when the needle is removed. Balsa dust often gets in, but it usually washes through. I've seen grass in there.

Here's an off-beat suggestion... I once replaced the fuel tubing, and accidentally substituted a piece with a very narrow ID... I have no idea where that piece ever came from... I just grabbed it and used it...
Replaced that piece of tubing, and things worked fine....
Also, it could be that you are using fuel tubing with too large an ID and you might be leaking where you expect that the joints would be tight. I bought some Du-Bro tubing that was like that... mea culpa for buying the wrong sized stuff.
Like I said, this is an off-beat suggestion.

thanks for all your guy's input. I found and fixed the problem. The nipple on the exhaust was clogged rock hard. Took a few minuets to clean it out. Almost looked like a hard piece of charcoal. I over looked this, because when i blew through the line the air passed through the exhaust nipple and into the muffle.
thanks again,

I agree, It did idle fine but would eventually die after 30 seconds. There was a little space for air to travel through but it was very minimal. This would have been a good excuse to get that .61FX that I was looking at
. But at least I'll save a few dollars to add in some modifications to my T___T.
