GhostRider, a little grinding here and there in order to get the engine as close to the firewall as possible......5 minutes with a Dremel.
Waldo........I have that same engine and I have to use the O.S. "F" series plug to keep it lit at idle.

I appreciate all the advice and decided to get a Tower .75. I had a $25 gift cert. so I got the motor for $64 new, I couldn't pass it up for that. From what I've been reading, it's basically the same size as the other .61's so we'll see if it will work. Should be some sick power.

My MDS 2.18 was the same way then I put the O.S. "F" series plug (which helped) and a onboard glo system that I made & it idles Great now, It will idle slower than the spec. sheet says it will.

GhostRider32, it will be interesting to see how the Tower .75 works in a 3-D application. I always thought of this engine as more of a revver than a tractor like torque engine. It is much liked by the go fast bunch. You will have so much over-kill on power that there should be plenty of mid-range anyway.

Fellow Twistheads,
I just ordered a Twist 40 size and will be using a OS 46 FX and APC 12x4 prop to power it w/ cool power 20/20 (cuz I have mostly 4 strokes).
In your opinion, will it make any noticeable difference in RPM's if I get the Tower Hobby muffler to replace the stock OS muffler w/out the baffle.
If so, how much of a difference?
A friend of mine says he put a pipe on his to get a better throttle response.
What do you think of that reasoning?
Any comments that would be helpful would be appreciated.
root aka Bob G
ps -FWIW I'm also using a 1650 mAh 6Volt battery & the Futaba 3050's for the ailerons, elevator and rudder (had them in another plane - RIP)
I'm a beginner at 3D.

root, I might suggest the 12.25x3.75 APC instead of the 12x4 for that engine.
Tim,C, I think you're right on the money when considering the .75 Tower engine. I had tried a ST .75 on a T _ _ _ T once and I thought the OS .61 outperformed it. One engine is ringed (ST and Tower) the other isn't (OS).

D,
I was reading somewhere along this Gimonga thread that the 12X4 was better---GO FIGURE??
Besides it was the last 12x4 (and no 12.25X3.75's in stock) my LHS had.
What increase in performance will I expect from your recommendation?

root, the difference is substantial.........mostly in throttle response, which is critical when you're touching your rudder to good 'ol mother earth. If you're just getting into 3D.........no biggy.

root, I tried both props when I had a .46FX in my Pizazz (A lot like the Twist). The rev-up was slower with the 12.25x3.75 if I remember right, but not much. The plane would come off the ground just a bit quicker with this prop. The .46FX would spin the 12x4 faster. I ended up swapping the .46 for a .50 with only a small gain in power. I think you will be happy with the way that .46FX/ 12x4 work together on the Twist.

Thanks, thats what I wanted to hear.
Are there any mods I can perform for strengthening the overall integrity of the airframe w/out taking any covering off B4 I fly?
I'm going w/ the larger lighter wheels cuz of .my grass field -
some have said to use triangle stock for the rear tail feathers and
use metal clevises and
install the 46 FX more forward on the mounts.
If you guys had to do it over, what mods would you perform w/out ripping her apart?
Is any of what I just wrote, Overkill in your opinion??

I've never had one so well see how it goes. Physically its the same size as the Tower .61, just bored out a little and its an ABC engine and not ringed. I read some good reports about it and most were positive other than the motor is really tight and takes some fuel to get it broke in. Like you, I'm speculating that it will have enough power that anything over half throttle will be unreal. I'll keep you guys posted on performance.

A redneck family from the hills was visiting the city and they were in a
mall for the first time in their lives. The father and son were
strolling around while the wife shopped. They were amazed by almost
everything they saw, but especially by two shiny, silver walls that
could move apart and then slide back together again. The boy asked,
"Paw, what's at?"
The father (never having seen an elevator) responded, "Son, I dunno. I
ain't ever seen anything like that in my entire life; I ain't got no
idea'r what it is."
While the boy and his father were watching with amazement, a fat old
lady in a wheel chair rolled up to the moving walls and pressed a
button. The walls opened and the lady rolled between them into a small
room. The walls closed and the boy and his father watched the small
circular number above the walls light up sequentially. They continued to
watch until it reached the last number and then the numbers began to
lig ht in the reverse order. ! Then the walls opened up again and a
gorgeous, voluptuous 24 year-old blonde woman stepped out. The father,
not taking his eyes off the young woman, said quietly to his son,
"Boy..................go gitcha Momma..............

LOL,,,, I love this thread,

I will try the F series plug and see where that gets me tomorrow, Thanks fellas
Oh did I mention the usual spot that cracks behind the wing was about the only thing that wasn't cracked in my last mid air, and she fell about 80 feet, the build up really worked great, I should just make the T_ _ _ T out of epoxy and not worry about anything ever again.
she is almost put back together, the wing is finished, so the fuse gets a couple of hours tonight along with cutting off the tail section so I can re fix all the tail surfaces, they are all split and broken, and she should be air worthy tomorrow morn, I'm a happy man again. Gluing and Flying

I have my cake, and will hopefully eat it tomorrow.
Root, The beef up needed is directly behind the former where the back of the wing seats, I cut the monocote out on the bottom right behind the wing saddle to access it, I also use this opening as a pop hatch and put my battery back there to help get it tail heavy, if you just run some triangular, or I even just epoxied strips of Balsa ply all along all the back of the former and 4 strips about 3" long running from the former towards the tail, other have suggested carbon fibre rods also, but I have not tried that yet.
The other mod I do is re-zap all the seams,,, (Not necessary) I play hard so I don't take the chance, and I throw some extra epoxy around the landing gear block also, we have a very bumpy grass runway.
I also found out the reason for our Mid air, my good cuz thought it would look great for us to fly down the runway together, so he was ahead of me and took a right turn, I was coming up from behind him on the same line, so I started a left turn, thats when he had his idea to rejoin me, He said he did take a right turn, but then saw me going left and decided to keep his right turn going to meet back up with me, so he was doing a sweeping right turn loop thing to catch back up with me the next thing I knew, the T_ _ _ T was in many pieces falling from the sky, I never even saw him coming, and he just plowed straight into me. Oooooooooo I just got a quiver, Love this hobby

Waldo,
Thanks a lot , I needed to hear those recommended mods.
They'll make me feel more assured when I do land and take off from my grass field.
As far as the CG goes, how far do you think I'm going to have to mount the OS 46 FX forward?
All the way, as much as I can?

I can't help you on the .46 really, I think they are mounting them as far forward as possible,, but I don't remember, its definitely posted in this huge thread though, I'm sure someone will jump in with your answer, I have the OS 70 4 stroke And I have to mount it as far back as I can get it, and throw the battery behind the Cockpit in order to get a balance of 4.75

root, after doing a search in the original thread before the continuation, I found this post: "Prop spinner I flew mine with OS 46AX , battery against the fuel tank, and still had to put 2oz of weight in the nose. Just put in an older OS FS 70 Supreme it weighs just .2 of an oz more than my prev setup."
From reading this, I get the impression that you should mount the .46AX as far forward as possible and put the battery right behind the fuel tank.

Mine is a PNP & I had the Evo .46 as far forward as it would go & still had to add weight to the nose. Stuck the Evo .61 in it & took the weight off.

If I mount it forward, as far as possible, and put the battery against the tank, maybe I'll be able to get away with putting a harry higgley weighted (brass?) prop hub on it and get it close.
If not, then I'll have to put some stick-um weight on the firewall.
I just ordered the Tower Hobbies muffler and a 12.25X3.75 prop to try it versus the 12x4.
I should be receiving the plane on Monday.
Not SOON ENUF!!
Only one other guy that I know of in my club has a T_ _ _T out of 125+ members.
Go figure!!
I have a feeling that will change after next week when mine is in the air.......

Hey 2HI2C,
I just did a weight comparison and the 61 Evo wieghs around 10 ounces more than the 46 you had in previously.
That's a considerable amount of weight.
Hope you don't mind me asking but how did you compensate for that with the plane then becoming tail heavy?
Battery moved way aft?
What's your CG?

The plane was tail heavy to start with, Putting the .61 made it a little nose heavy so I moved the Bty back as far as possible till it ballanced out. I think it is @ 5 1/4. Will have to check to be sure as I am old & have CRS (Can't Remember S--T).

Root,
I have a PNP with the evolution .46 and I mounted it as far forward as plossible, moved the batttery against the tank, and added about 1 ounce to the underside of the motor mount and it balances just right. I have the OS .61fx in another one and it balances just right with the battery back as far as I can get it and not wieght.

Smucked my Twist today. Flying inverted, dumb thumb her into a big oak WOT. Really got everyones attention. hehe Oops. Split the valve cover open on the Saito 72 and bent the pushrod ear. You`d think an 80 dollar E-bay engine would hold up better than that ! lol !
Brite side is , between the 2 planes, {first one got picked up and slammed by the wind} I can easly make one.
I started flying the Twist a month or so a go, at the time there was only 2 3D guys in the club. I pass the Tx around with a few trusted freinds when I was flying . Long story short, everyone of them has a 3D plane now. LOL!
On the way home I picked up a Saito 100 and a .60 , I`m hooked.
I`ll have some pic`s in a day or 2.
