Root,, great job, And I agree with Down,,, I myself would love to purchase a couch for all my planes, It feels so wrong to set them on anything else but a nice soft cushion, I was going to even give up my bed space, but the wife didn't really like waking up staring into the eyes of the T_ _ _ T[sm=punching.gif] and the indubious aromas of Nitro-methane,,[:@] I don't get it.
Quick Question,
A friend just bought the 60 size, He loves my 40, he's mounted a .91 4 stroke I believe on there, what is a good CG and Prop for his combination for 3D with this plane??

If your friend has previous experience with 3d flying, I fly with my cg at 5 7/8 and using an apc 15x4 prop with a saito 91 on my twist 60. There are some flyers who prefer their cg at 5 1/4. I love the way mine flys and lands with little roll out after touch down.

WAAHOOO!!!!! YEAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! I just maidened my T___T 40!!! Finally!! It went great. If flew so nicely. I didnt get up the guts to do any aerobatic maneuvers cause i'm still breaking in the 61, and i am deathly afraid of deadsticks, esspecially on take-off. This is a great plane, however landing it on my first time, i couldnt get it to slow down, maybe i had the idle too high, i'll try flaps next time too. I landed it and it skidded to a stop on the grass right before hitting a fence to some tennis courts. Thanks everyone for helping me get this great plane set up. I love that OS 61! NOw get on out and FLY! and tell all of us how it goes.

CONGRATS Archermatt,,, welcome to the T_ _ _ Taholics club

glad to hear of a great maiden flight.
I have to get me one of those OS 61's just to feel the hype ye'all have, I just love the 70 on mine and can't even imagine anything else on it, but I'm always for more power..[>:]

Balanced with no weight other than moving battery. I hear the OS .61 is a good motor too. I've had good service out of all my OS's.

[8D] Insane power,
That is the best combination for any plane
I once tried putting an OS .20 on one of those 3 piece balsa planes with the rubberband prop you can buy for $.25,,[>:] talk about a T_ _ _ T, of Course I had to strengthen it a little, and build up the control horn areas, [:-] it kind of looked like a bunch of radio gear with a motor and fuel tank on it instead of a plane, this was before Micro was invented, or at least I hadn't heard of it back then, I glued 3 of the wings together for support and had to make a special plastic wing holder that would accomidate the extra thickness of the wings, I made mine out of a balsa block, and glued it all together, I tried to hand start the motor in fear that the electric starter would shred the plane from vibration, so the motor started, I threw her into the air and the whole plane snap rolled like a tornado from start to finish. [8D]
Building & flight results:
3 planes = $.75
1 small balsa wingtip block and some scraps of balsa ply I had laying around.
2 Futaba servos, 1 receiver, 1 battery and switch, no speed control.
1 oz fuel tank off old line control plane.
2 - 3 hours construction time
1 flight - 7 or 8 foot,
fastest snap rolls I've ever witnessed (I think the engine was spinning the plane faster then the prop)
about 2 seconds flight time, engine revved up at full speed and then shut down as soon as I launched the plane. I think it was a little Nose heavy,, LOL thats an under statement.
Laughing hystericaly for years with that picture in my head, It was well worth the efforts for that 2 seconds back then, See what living in a small room with a bottle of Zap will do for you
I could go on all day about some of things a friend of mine & myself invented / created, when we got together every night and just had nothing else to do, Now I'm lucky if I get a few hours to fly once every weekend, I can't wait until retirement, I have a feeling I'm going to be quite ridiculous.
I can't wait

My friends new T _ _ _ T maidened today,, I will post the video Tuesday with the link, It flew great I have to say, I'm a little jealous now [&o] but the T_ _ _ Ts,,,,,,, 40 & 60 flew great and looked great in the sky together. and he is totaly into the plane, The 60 seems like it is much more durable then the 40 for sure, I was quite impressed, it was my first encounter with the 60.
The tripe that you see is his also and on its 1st flight of the season today, it yanked hard left and cartwheeled on the takeoff, all on film,,, I will post that video as well, It was heartbreaking to watch, but in the end the damage wasn't too bad, he likes gluing as much as I do... LOL

All right guys.....information only..I'm still alive and kicking....
In fact...I finished my (2nd) T _ _ _ T 40-size this morning and ran the engine for a minute (kinda wake up call for the engine...
...) I need to balance her, and then she is ready to be maidened!!..With...my faithful O.S. 61 FX engine. I installed HiTec Karbonite servo's all around. the surfaces move fast and smooth....I love it!!..
I'm glad to be back here with you guys...looks like I have a lot of reading to do...man, you guys sure keeps the forum going...keep it up guys!!..Show them all the T _ _ _ T is the number 1 plane out there!!..

Archer.....congratulations my friend!!
..I could have told you that you would LOVE that O.S. engine!!..How you like the power??Isn't that awesome??The T _ _ _ T will let you make a 90 degree turn with that power plant..
What servo's did you use??Did all went smooth with building and the maiden??..Keep me posted...I'm curious!!...
Well...the kids bought me a .....TWIST .60-size for fathers day
.As some of you guys re-call..I crashed the 1st one during the maiden...[:@]..I'm still convinced I messed up with the balancing part on that one!![
]..This one will be balanced EXACTLY according the manufacturer's recommendation!!....I want her up in the air first before experimenting with the balance!!I love the looks and the size of the .60-size. The S/T 90-size purred like a cat in that plane...well...at least for the 30 seconds I flew the plane...[&:]
All right guys...I sure hope I will be back here daily!!
..Missed listening to all you guys stories and experiments..
I'll keep you posted for sure of the maiden coming up next week!!..Cross your fingers for me. The brand new T _ _ _ T looks beautiful, but the scare from the crash last time still lives in my spine a little bit...

hey guys, im just getting into 3D flying and i got a Twist 40 at my hobby shop today for $80. they had a sale going on so i couldnt pass it up. i have an O.S. 46 FX engine that im going to put into it. i want to be able to eventually perfom vertical hovering and i was wondering if that would be possible with this plane/engine. i will definately post vids when i fly it.

I've been lurking in the background and posted a few times in the old forum. After splitting my twist in 2 last year, getting it back in the air flying; I split it in two again last Saturday. This time I did it on takeoff. I'd gotten to the point where I trusted my Magnum 46 so much that I didn't feel it necessary to even rev it before takeoff. Dumb Dumb Dumb...
The engine started with just a bump on the starter so I taxi'd it and started my takeoff. There must have been some air still in the line because after about 30 ft of near vertical climb the engine stalled. You know the rest. I tried to glide it in but the plane hit at a steep angle. The fuse broke in several of the same places as before. The leading edge of the wing was broken in three places where it contacted the growing corn.
I brought it inside and immediately began to strip the covering from the damaged areas. I quickly realized that I was missing a piece of light ply from behind the canopy. It must have dropped off when I was picking up the plane. I headed back into the field to try and find the missing part. Luckily I found it in a few short passes over the crash area. I began gluing everything together and was pleased to see that it would fly again. I had to rebuild the entire area behind the canopy using hardwood due to the extensive damage from the two crashes. As the epoxy was setting on the fuselage, I began surgery on the wing. I had broken quite a few things here. I also found a broken aileron that hadn't been identified initially.
After three hours of work I had the plane back at the airfield flying again. The extra wood and glue made it a bit more tail heavy but it also hovers better than ever now. I almost picked up a new twist this weekend ($99 at Hobbytown). It's very tempting but as long as I have this one flying I think I'll wait. Hopefully I can make it last through the rest of the summer.

Literally, from a dead stop, give fill throttle and it takes off without the need for runway, unbelievable verticle.

I've always thought you had about the right power if you can take off from a picnic table. If your c.g. is right, you can land on one.

Dutch, The power of the 61 is great! I still dont have it finely tuned yet, still on break in, so i havent reached its full potential. I cant wait till i can really use all the power it has! I put Hitec HS-425's in all around. I ran into a couple of problems in the building process though. I mounted the engine too close to the firewall and my fuel lines would kink, so i got a new engine mount and mounter her again, but moving the engine forward made it quite nose heavy so i had to add a tiny bit of weight to the tail. I also ran into a problem with the throttle push cable being too stiff, so i just installed a durbo flex cable and it works great. Other then that, all went well! THe maiden went great, i cant wait to fly her again. this time i will try to use flaps and see how much it slows down on the landings, it landed pretty fast cause i was comming in steep, (the place where i flew it wasnt as big as i hoped.) I'll make a couple more flights to break in the engine and then i'll fine tune it to get all the power. It flies great though, it goes right where i would point it and it was very smooth and precise. THanks for all the help and tips dutch, and good luch with the new 40 and the new 60!

Downtrodden, those pictures look so nice I wish I was there fishing with you. Now you are enjoying the benefits of living in a northern clime. Cool summers. That looks like a fisherman's paradise.

TimC,
What you're looking at in those pics are views of Lake Superior .... where there are still miles of secluded stony beaches and fresh COLD water as far as the eye can see. What you don't see are the swarms of ankle-biting fish flies, black flies, no-see-ums, and mosquitos...........oh yeah...........I forgot to mention that we now have ticks........something we never had before, but the fishing is still great........even from shore. (I sold my boat because my family lost interest in boating. *note to self.......keep the boat next time....no matter what!*) I guess positives can be found no matter where a person lives.
Dutch,
Good to hear from you man! I thought the ground done swallowed you up!
Peace,
downtrodden

or better yet, enough power to ... grab her in front of canopy .... point her straight up, throttle up n let go ... doan need no steenkin runway atall
