RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z
Here is a guy that really showed the passivity if landed just right....
Like any plane, balance, and setup is key.
Dial in some EXpo to soften the sticks around neutral
Decide if you want to be on A 3rd rates, for landing....High throws expo or what ever you want....
A forward cg makes the plane more stable, but makes landings faster..
Rearward CG, makes for amore maneuverable aircraft, and slower landings that can have the tail drop
While landing...
Good luck guys...
Seems that the flying conditions have to be GOOD as well...No high winds crosswinds ect....
I believe this was for RC flyer mag..

RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z
As the guy who wrote the review and did the flying in the video, I want to emphasize that this is one great flying Gee Bee. I've flown most of the other ARF models of it that are out there.
Like many scale models, you do need to manage the decent and touch down with the throttle. The Gee Bee in the video is balanced per the manual and is totally stock: LG, wheels, etc.
The review is in the March issue of RC Sport Flyer that is out now.
Happy Flying, Richard

RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z
Well I will be getting the Seagull GEE BEE Z for my birthday. My B-day is not until May. I would by it with my tax return but I told my wife I would put it towards bills or our newborn baby.
This will be my setup.
Engine: Super tigre 2300, I want to put a OS 160 but I do not feel like buying another.
Prop: probably a 17x6 or 17x7 ( I will probably do a 17x6 first because my Great Planes gee bee lands great with a 6 pitch prop, check out the video on youtube under klmelj user name)
Seros: JR DS821, probably a basic analog jr servo for the throttle.
Receiver: JR R790 scan select
People as you all fly and set you alls planes, post your setup and prop selection.
Thanks

You are going to kick yourself if you don't get a gasser for the plane. The extra dollars spent on the gas engine will be recouped several times over in the money you spend on nitro. Not to mention the weight you'll have to place in the nose.

PSJDBF I saw your setup post a few months ago and looked at you great video!!! Thanks for the info, I based some of my decision on how you posted your setup. Which prop worked best for you as far as slowing the plane the 17x7 or 17x8?
RevGQ, I know that going gas will save me a lot of money when you consider buying a $20 gallon of gas all the time, but I really love nitro engines and hope to go gas on my next plane but right now I only consider nitro burners. I have two of my larger scale planes on youtube under klmelj, these fly with a OS 160 fx. By going with nitro I save a lllllllllot of weight. With the hanger 9 p-47 150 I came out about 1.5-2lbs lighter than all my gas buddies and with the top flite staggerwing I have, I came out about the same about 1.5-2lbs lighter than my gas buddies. Yeah you have to place some weight in the nose but it needs to be dead weight. The way I have learned to compensate for this is to set the engine a little bit forward on the mount and mount the battery in the cowl. All of my planes have the batteries mounted in the cowl except for my great planes gee bee 120. Thanks for the info though but saving that weight is really what I am looking for and I just love nitro. Here is a picture of me with my Gee Bee R2 and My Top Flite Staggerwing.

RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z
17X7 seems to be the best so far on the 170 good speed full noise & nice slow approach on the landing circuit with good response to small throttle inputs,But still playing around with different Props.
Trying the Menz 16X8 next.
As far as gas goes I haven't gone down that track yet or though with the new Saito FG series gasser's It might not be long.
But I still love my nitro fourstrokes ( old fashioned , expensive as they are )I like the torque curve, the sound & the smell.
Each to there own though eh ,makes for an interesting hobby & world.

Hey Row: I hear you man. After the last Olympics and the nitro shortage, I vowed to convert to gas for all my machines except the helis which I will eventually do. Your point though is well thought out and clearly stated. And I love that Staggerwing, it has always been one of my favorites. Thanks to you, it might just be my next project. Good to hear from you, keep flying.

Hey guys the Gee Bee looks great on the cover of Model Airplane. But it sounds like it has a real big problem with the landing gear. Is it worth it ????

RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z
As soon as I can figure out how to weld them, it will be. The gear has stainless and aluminum. Does anybody know if there is any kind of welding that will work on dissimilar metals? You need to weld the fork in place so it wont twist and then I want to weld the whole strut to the bent wire that goes into the wing. The set screws are not strong enough to overcome the forces of landing, the gear twists and then the pants get messed up and you have an ugly landing. Of course you can avoid this by just making perfect landings every time.....yeah right.. Mine is set up with OS 160FX and flys just great. I just want to make the gear strong enough to withstand the occassional not so perfect landing. The Gee Bee looks great, flies great!!

RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z
Doe's the new strut combo come with the rear support wire , I have asked a couple of times but have not had an answer yet.
I think this may be half of the problem, if they got rid of this rear support it would be a big mistake in my opinion.
I have after market struts but they are still secured onto the wire buy Grub screws ,however that rear support does alot in making sure the strut absorbs the shock instead of the strut & wire flexing rearward ,Plus I have it secured to the strut with a hose clamp secured very tightly which I,m sure also keeps the strut straight instead of being turned on a rough landing.
I asked a while ago whether the blocks for the rear brace wire is still in the newer versions wing , but once again got no reply.
I think this is the biggest problem with this kit ( the landing gear ) but I don t know whether I have just fluked it or what but my set up seems to work very very well in regards to hard landings, fast landings etc ( not the greatest RC pilot ) no twisting ,lots of shock absorption the only real issue I have is with direction changes due to the narrow track ( dropping a wing ) If we nut this landing gear problem out then just about anyone will be able to fly this model as it behaves so well when it,s up doing it;s thing.
Share your thoughts & set up's please !!.

I was looking at the Pacific Aero Model 27 % Gee Bee Y. I have only found good feed back. They have made a new and inproved landing gear and wheel pants. Has any seen or hear about this ARF ? Thanks

Could be similar to a bar product that was demonstrated on TV a while back. Girl gave the pitch.
Don't know if I would trust it on aluminum gear?
Must be someone who has used this product?

Does this plane have a battery hatch? I've followed the thread since the beginning and I don't believe I've seen anyone considering electric. If battery acess is good,I could see an E-flite 110 really moving this plane.
