More work done on the REV, the building is done or should I say the assembly is complete. All the fitting, adjusting, messuring is done including the CG, man this thing was so easy to put thogather that I'm thinking on getting another one soon.
I put the battery right where they tell you to put it and it came on CG, ( I'm using a 5 call pack 2000 mh Nickel M ) like this the servoes are going to give me like 82oz.
Now all I hae to do is the details all around and I will be done, probably it will be complete by tomorrow. Here are some pics. of today work

Cars,
Something you may want to consider is cutting the pitts muffler pipes short and attaching a rubber exhaust extender to each one. If your gear gives out, it will keeep the pipes from being snapped off.

I'm looking for something like an Edge 540 or an Extra 300 in the 60"-70" wingspan range. The Extra 300 .60-.90 from AeroWorks is currently at the top of my list. Anyone have experience with this plane? Any suggestions for others to look at? Oh, I'm sticking with nitro for this one. Thanks.

Don
I had an AW Extra 260 (.60-.90). It was an outstanding airframe (note the past tense) with a spectacular roll rate, great snaps, etc. It was VERY sensitive to weight. I had an OS AX 1.20 on the nose, and she was about 12 oz above recommended wt. With the higher wing loading, she would snap unexpectedly with modest (low rate) elevator input, which ultimately led to her demise. If you are careful about weight, and keep it within a few oz of recommended, I think you will love the plane.
To stay on topic, it was a much more aerobatic, but much less forgiving airframe than the R70.

wjcalhoun - nice recovery back to the Revolver thread! On that topic, is it that more "forgiving" airframes are they are also less aerobatic? Seems like the trade-off - stability for maneuverability.
Don Emmel - Just curious why you're going nitro on that 70" Extra. Seems like the DLE 20 - or DLE 30 - would be a good fit.

Speaking of the DLE 20, the rebuild of my Rev 70 \ DLE 20 is on hold as I attend to other plane projects. Kind of frustrating seeing that brand new Revolver box sitting there, all alone. I'm almost done getting this used Ace Extra 230 (87") with FLT 45 ready to fly. Started the engine last night (in my kitchen!) and it sounds pretty powerful, so I'm psyched. Then I want to get this used Hangar 9 P51 Mustang (80") \ Evolution GT 35 flyable - beautiful plane! But I'm having some problems with the retracts now. Online comments say to ditch the stock retracts, but replacements cost about $300! The guy I bought this plane from seemed trustworthy, so I'm thinking I'll get the stock retracts working first. Also just received my new Tote Wingbag for the P51's wing (it's a once-piece - which, at 80", is awkward). So at least now the wing is protected.
I'm also rebuilding a Rev 59 \ OS 70 4s. On top of all this rebuilding I'm moving to a new apt in a month. Fortunately, this move enabled me (and my son) to join another good flying club that has a very nice field. After the move I'll be able to turn my attention back to the Rev 70 rebuild.

Sure and I work slow, I know.
But been working on my new (home kit) Dirty Bridi at the same time.
But back to the Revolver 70
Assembled to the point of getting to weigh the Rev. 70.
With:
Dle 20 and Xoar 16 x 7 w/dle stock muffler, w/stock spinner
5 cell eneloop 2000 mah Rx Battery....( 5 oz.)
4 cell eneloop 2000 mah Ign Battery....(4 oz.)
6 HiTec HS-645MG Servos
1 9 channel Rx 72 or 2.4
1 Pull, Pull Rudder System X 1 servo
1 Elev. System X 2 servos
2 ea. Electro Dynamics Ultra Switches w/charge jacks.
Landing gear Modified with Mil. Spec. carbon fibre sheet and allum. angle.
Went with DuBro low bounce wheels which are a bit heavier than the sponge ones.
All else is straight stock right out of the GP Box.
All up dry weight 9.5 lbs from my UPS Digital Scale
Yup just .25 lb. pudgy, guess I will have to be happy with that, this time. So wish me luck with this Mile High Altitude Density here in CO.
Cheers

Was just comparing my dry weight to the GP Specs. in the manual of 8.5 to 9.25 lbs. is where my comment stemmed from.
But find it interesting that of the many Rev 70's out there we three go the spectrum of various weights.
Cheers All

The syssa and dle are two different engines, one loves rpm and one torque. But I think the syssa wins..

It will be interesting to hear the flight performance reports on the 30cc equipped R70. I mentioned way back the possibility of a 30cc engine, and most (ultimately including me) thought it was a bit over the top - that the 20cc was a better match - enough power and lighter weight.
At about 9#, (middle of design weight) the wing loading is about 25 oz/sf, whereas at 10.5#, wing loading is nearly 30 oz/sf. I'm thinking that a 30cc equipped plane might top 11#. With the tapered wing plan, and high wing loading, it is possible that the airframe will develop a tip stall / unintended snap roll tendency. I don't have a good sense of at what level of wing loading the R70 will begin to behave poorly, but if loading gets high enough, it will.
Those of you with heavier planes should chime in on your emipiric experience.

WJ i flown the smaller revolver with a high than standard weight of around 8 lbs or so. No issues at all I think it was a very easy plane to land i never ever had a tip stall with any of the small ones i owned. I heard of people saying they cant slow them down or the tip stall all the time.
I think the SYYSA would be the faster engine in this plane just wonder what kind of speeds others are getting with these engines. If the 30 are an easy fit then maybe i should go the next size up in gas engines like a DLE55 / DA69 or something.

airraptor - a DLE 55?? In a REV 70??? You're a mad-man. (and I mean that in a GOOD way).
I agree with wjcalhoun - I think the DLE 20 is the perfect engine for the Rev 70. Then again, I also have a YS 140 in my other Rev 70, which, I've read, due to it's fuel injection, is equivalent to about a 180. Which is the same as a DLE 30. Then again, I rarely run my YS 140 at over 1/2 throttle.

Finally! I have finished my Revolver 70. I just got done setting up the radio and it is just after 1 am. Do you think the neighbors would mind if I went out to test fire the engine
It will still be a while before I will get to fly it due to my schedule but I hope to run the engine tommorow. It came out to 10.6 lbs with the RCGF 26cc gas engine. Anyone out there heavier than that?

SS Thank you for the tip on the smoke tubes, I will consider that, I had a Pitts style muffler before and that is what happened to it when the gear collapsed lucklly I was working at a machine shop and we had wellding for that kind of metal.
So far I haven't had time to complete my R70 [:@] [:'(][:'(], I just need to do the final details and radio setup, anyways our runway is under reconstruction so, no flying for the next 2 weeks or so.

Well as it turns out I don't think the neighbors would have minded me trying to run my engine at 1 am since it wont run. Thinking it's the ignition modual right now. Still investigating the problem.
