SpinnerRow - so the larger the muffler "chamber" the more it muffles the sound?

My Revolver 70 is finally ready for its maiden flight! This plane has been about a year in the making for me but I finally have her together. The last hang up was that the magnet on the flywheel of the RCGF 26cc engine had no magnatism so it would not trigger the hal sensor to signal the ignition to spark. I finally got the new flywheel in yesturday and installed it. I ran two tanks through the engine on the ground to get an initial break in done so all thats left to do is go fly

That's my experience. The compact pitts sounds a lot like the stock muffler. The standard size makes the engine sound like a larger engine with not so much "BRAT-BRATBRAT" to the exhaust note.

Well on this second Revolver Imodified the firewall box a little and relocated one mount blind nut.(the one that interferes with the needles)This enabled me to get the engine back farther and centered in the cowl. Should only have about a 1/4" gap between spinner back plate and cowl. Much better than the almosthalf inch Ihad before. This has made hooking up the choke lever from the rear more difficult though, so this time I'm going to go with a manual choke setup out the cowl front and use an ignition battery eliminator for engine kill safety. So here is the question. I don't need anything mega fancy or expensive, so who makes a decent IBEC?

The Syssa IBEC works with any kind of battery and has been very reliable for me. I think it is smaller than the one sold by Chief. The Chief one also requires you to move the dedicated switch twice to turn the engine off. I have the older Chief version on my Yak. It doesn't require the double throw and also works great.

Stang, Looks like a great installation. I like the stock muffler. I have heard alot of guys prefer the stock muffler on gassers, due to smoother running and less tuning issues.

I chose to use the stock muffler due to expense more than anything. It did seem to run well and transition well on the ground. I am looking forward to this weekend to hopefully maiden her if the weather allows.

It has been almost two months since I got done with the Revolver but I have been busy at work and famly and our runway at the field had some work been done and no one could fly from it.
Today I worked on it to add one or two things like a fuel filler from Madison Components ( Miracle Fueler 1/4 turn ) and some monokote. Here and now I will have to confest that I crash the Rudder into a door frame in the garage ( second time in 26 years of modeling ) [:@] [:'(] Nothing makes me more upset than damaging the aircraft before the first flight, ggrrrrrr...

By now the runway at the field is ready, I'm off tomorrow and everything looks good for the maident flight tomorrow, so if it happens I will have a flight report and pictures and may be a video of it.

Wish me good luck

Was going throught withdrawls the other day cause it had been like 3 weeks since I went out to the airfield. So I took my revolver 70 out and had about 3 hours of great flying. Still amazed at how good this plane flies. My OS95 AX performed flawlesly and I was about 5 flights in and on the 6th flight ( was going to be my last for the day ), I was doing a high speed low run accross the runway and BAM !!!,..SHEDEADSTICKSONME !!! WOW,..I was very low to the ground so I only had one shot at a good landing. I had just enough speed to do a very tight turn back to the runway and managed to align her straight and landed her without any problems. Further investigaing revealed that the screw holding the throttle handle to the carburator had become loose enough for the throttle to close and shut off the engine. I took her apart and tighten the screw and covered the screw with hot glue to make sure that it would not come loos again. Just a trick I learned here on the threads to avoid this happening again.

Good luck Cars II.

My new R70/DLE20 is the current project on my building bench. Hope to have her airborne in the next 10 days or so.

flyboy - nice, fast recovery on that dead stick. Sounds like you had just enough air speed to keep it in the air while making a 180.

I got to fly my Revolver finally! It is about a 1/4 inch nose heavy right now with the RCGF 26cc on the nose. I will have to build a battery slot/bracket a bit further back in the future so I can move the batteries back a bit. It still flew very well but it was difficult to hold in a hover. High alpha knife edge was amazing though. Rudder authority with the pull/pull system is very good. Inverted spins are tight and controllable. Landings are a bit fast but look beautiful when you hit the mains and ride it out with the tail up untill speed bleeds off. I love this plane. It will likely be the plane that always goes out with me.

Cars
Nice build; i like the hatch latch
Can i ask you why you routed the fuel dot out the cowl, rather than out the side of the fuse?

Got my Syssa IBE but havea question. What are the jumpers for on the end? Do they control input and output voltages? It came with no instructions and there aren't any on the website.

Sorry, I don't remember the jumpers or making any adjustments. You can hook up a battery checker to the ignition line coming out of the IBEC to check its voltage before attaching to the ignition. I will be removing the cowl in the next couple of days and will check it out myself. I think the voltage on mine was around 5.6. I will post my findings. Todd, the owner of Syssa, is also very responsive to any email inquiries.

Beautifull work Cars II. It will be worth the wait. I, due to military/family commitments, spent a year from start to maiden on my Revolver and was not disappointed by the results of my patients.

Wjcalhound

Thank you for your comment on my build. To answer your question, the hatch retainer I had, a BVM part, there is a red one from another company that I prefer, the trick part was to clear the foam and build a base and then glue it to the thing turtle deck and on the fuel filler I was installing the fuel filler I noticed that there was a gap between the nut and the body of the filler I asume it was that way becuse it is mented to be intalled on the side of the fuse, that's why I got a servo wheel as a washer, the other thing is that this is the first time using something like that on my airplanes, I have seen it been use on the big gasers before, it just made sence to instal it there than trying to reroute the fuel line back into the fuese since the front of the fuel tank is near the engine.
