Thank you Mark! It sounds like that may be a little hard to duplicate though! My build has slowed to a crawl because of a new addition to our family last Dec, so I guess I'll have some time to think about how to do it.

Thanks again!

Hey Bud, are you still on here? I have been going back through the posts looking for the info on where you got that little canoe to haul on the float rigging. I can't find it. I know I saw it somewhere back there. Could you please post or PM me the info?

Thanks, Mark

Here you go Mark....http://www.northwoodscanoe.com/index.html I never used mine, it's a little out of proportion with the cub but will probably work. Still looks good though.

Thanks Bud. I was talking to a friend about it and he got all excited about getting one for his Hangar 9. He is putting on a float fly in August and wants to spruce up his plane.

Thanks again, Mark

Does anyone on here know what kind of paint was used on the DP Cubs? I need to repaint and it would be nice to know for compatibility issues.

Thanks, Mark

WOW thanks for the link. I saw the DP name on the lists of booths for Toledo this year on their web site, but I though it was just a misprint hold over from a pevious year. I spoke to Dave P at the WRAMS show several years ago when the cubs first came out (I got mine then) and he said that he was having terrible priority problems at the factory back then.

Someone who went to the show spoke to Dave and he said Cermark bought him out. Cermark will start the Dave Patrick line again with replacement parts.

Hi Everyone,

I want to personally clarify as best as I can with DPM situation. We (Cermark) are currently working with Dave Patrick to bring DPM back into the market. We looked at several factors that we felt important to us, you and our industry;
1) Dave Patrick is a strong designer, and has given much to our industry
2) There are still much creative juices left in Dave Patrick
3) Cermark can help minimize some of the business logistic and vendor issues that DPM experienced previously.

So we are moving ahead in bring DPM back to our industry. We want to provide Dave as much resources as possible to allow him to focus on creative aspect of design, QC portion of production, and teaching portion of flying for DPM . As for service and logistics, we are in the process of setting up. Please give us approximately 30-40 days integrating telephone, email and website.

As for the DPM items, here are the plan;
a) Available now
MAX adhesive - made in USA, thin / medium / thick with special patented cap in 20g and 50g sizes
Ultra Tailwheel - Wire and Leaf style versions in small, medium and large sizes (with limited quantity on hand).

b) Available in 60 days
MAX adhesive - made in USA, thick foam safe CA in 20g and 50g sizes
MAX accelerator for CA

c) Availabe in 4-6 months
Super Piper Cub - Vero Beach version in yellow Ultracote

d) In discussion
Clipped Wing Piper Cub - with racing strips in white base Ultracote
Blue head engines

If you have any suggestion for me, you can email me directly at [email protected]

Peace,
Steven Chao,
CERMARK

I like to do my own finishing and think that ALL arf's from any company should be offered in almost ready to cover version. DP had the S Cub set up that way. It allows for better personalization.

Hi Steve,

It's exciting that a company such as Cermark is helping Dave get his ***** together; his models were second to none. But if what you say is correct can you please reply to the email I sent you 3 days ago regarding a replacement aircraft / parts DPM had promised to send me 2 years ago, which I still haven't received, Mine was damaged in international freight. I hope you will respond and help DPM make amends with one unhappy camper.

You can contact me directly on [email protected]

Thanks and kind regards,

James

Les40, I would think that a 40cc engine would be way too much. How is the balance? My buddy flys his Sig Rascal 110" on a Zenoah G26 and it hauls it around with plenty authority. Nowdays most everyone thinks that anything they fly has to "hover" and fly 3D. This might have been the case with your Cub's former owner. If it were mine, I would put the 160 or 182 twin fourstroker on it and have a sweet sounding flyer. I have the OS 160 twin on mine.

Daniel-EL,
Sad to say I have not finished mine yet... Its about 3/4 of the way done... just finished the cockpit last week.... I am way behind! :-) Hope to get her up in the air this spring... Thats my goal anyways! I have been messing around with the Hanger 9 Piper Pawnee latley but back to the DPM Super Cub now! Are you still flying yours?
Just spotted your question, sorry for the delay. My Cub is still in the crate from moving back to the good ol' USA. I've been messing around with a GP RV-4 ARF lately, but I plan to uncrate my Super Cub this summer and get it in the air. I've also got a 1/3 Balsa USA Cub on the bench I'd like to maiden this summer if possible. Lots of wood to glue there;). I'm installing a Kavan FK-50 twin in it, just like the original.

I know most of you have long ago finished you Super Cubs, but I finally just completed mine this evening. I purchased this Super Cub not long after they first became available. Through job change, a marriage and a move I finally made the time to get 'er done.

The engine is a YS140, servos are Hitec 645MG and the radio is a JR9303. There were several issues that added to the time needed to complete this Cub, but thanks to companies like Fiberglass Specialties and Aerotech I was able to get on the right track to complete the assembly. I just absoloutely love the plane and understand why this Cub has the following it goes.

It's great news about Cermark bringing this Cub back to the market and look forward to seeing the Cub available again. Sure would like to have the CLipped Wing version!! I may attempt the maiden flight tomorrow 6/10 nothing else gets in the way. I did take soome photos this evening and will post them soon.:D

Dan, it's good to see that I'm not the only slow poke around. I'm just finishing up on my Cub and expect to have it out for photo's this coming weekend. I stripped it down to the bones and did a Koverall and dope finish. Put in nav, strobe, and landing lights. I'm running an OS 1.60 twin FS which I have been breaking in on my big Rascal 110. Floats later this summer when Hangar 9 gets them out.
I hope your maiden flight goes perfect for you. Please let us all know how it goes and don't forget the pics.

Hi guys, anyone on here have any extra or leftover Rear Struts for the Cub? My kit came with two right rear struts and I'm in need of a Left Rear strut. I can use mine, but the airfoil is backwards and makes it look funkey. Hopefully when Cermark gets them going again, I will be able to get one then.
I already tried to get the jury strut attatchment off and turned over, but it seemed like it had been pinned and spot welded on there. I didn't want to screw up the only strut I have, so decided to leave it alone.

Thanks, Mark

Wow Bud, that is hard to believe [:o] as I thought you were a model builder for life. If you have health problems, that is another thing that is understandable.
If you actually do sell your Cub and want to separate the floats and rigging, pm me with your price and details as I might be interested.

Thanks

Hey Mark,
I'll keep the float thing in mind, the fittings were built especially for the DPM cub. I see I have competition since H9 came out with 1/4 scale floats that will be a whole lot cheaper than I could sell mine for. I may not be able to sell the plane as I won't ship. Local p/u only. I am a lifetime modeler and health is part of my quitting but I'm going back to my roots of hanging around the Chesapeake bay and building scale boat models of the old oyster boats and crabbing boats I grew up with. Just had sudden burnout and tired of lugging everything heavy to the field at my age. A trip to the Maritime museum at St Michaels Md brought back some memories that makes the modeling switchover easy. I apoligize for a boat picture in a cub forum but this is what it's all about for me.

Bud, I grew up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and have painted many a name on the work boats you speak fondly of. My father was also a sign / truck / boat painter who mastered the art of hand lettering and worked the last 20 years of his life as a self employed painter who lettered just about all the boats from Crifield, MD to Saxis Island, VA all the way down to Cape Charles, VA. He passed on in 1998 but I have carried on his business to this day...only I use computer vinyl for lettering and gave up the brush....it's the modern way now.;) I admire those that can carve the small work boats and make them look scale.
Check out this link.... http://www.makuchalsigns.com/Boats1.htm .....and you'll see some of my work on Delmarva.

As far as the Dave Patrick comeback....I think this is great news...and I hope Cermark handles the orders better this time around. I may even place an order when I see that people are starting to get them and say they're as good as ever!:D

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

FINALLY, FINALLY. FINALLY my Super Cub has flown. Today 6/24 was its' maiden flight. I didn't get any photos of it today at the field but I am one happy Cub owner!! The plane flies great, very little trim adjustments were needed and it looks fantastic in the air.

I have a few things to adjust. The control throws were set as recommended by the instruction book and low rates are a bit sluggish. I need to mix some rudder with ailerons and the engine needs to break in a bit more. I'm currently running a 16 x 8 APC prop and will try one in the 15" range next time out. And lastly, The tail wheel axle shaft lost one of the little c-clips which I will replace with either a speed nut or replace the axle with a machine screw and nylock nut.

I can see now why this plane is so well liked. Super smooth in the air, gets a lot of positive comments from other fliers, and it is well built. I now look forward to having a blast flyng this plane frequently and look forward to the time when the clipped wing version is available through Cermark.

I am happy to report that my Cub still looks like these pics after it's maiden flight this past weekend. I balanced level instead of the customary nose down attitude and my elevator is kind of touchy. I set it up according to the book and found myself comfortable with the high rates for normal flying. I haven't yet set up the exponential, but think I might need it on the elevator if changing the CG dosen't help. It might be a tad tail heavy.
I'm running an OS 160 twin fs for power with a Keleo exhaust system. I ripped all that Ultracote off, added a lighting system from Electro Dynamics (EDR117) and then recovered with Sig Koverall. The paint is Randolph butyrate dope applied like the full size counterpart. It took me a while to do, but now I have a drum tight, no wrinkle finish that is easy to maintain.
Overall, I am very happy with the results of my labor.

Here are a few more pics.
I made the landing lights by using Maglite reflectors. I had to reinforce behind my cutout in the wing leading edge with plywood. Then the old pop bottle plastic lens after the finish.
I also replaced the tail wheel assembly with a medium Sig unit like comes with the Rascal 110. I couldn't get the stock one to work right as it is too short and tight.
I'm running the Fromeco lithium ion 2600 battery pack regulated and a Badger switch. You can fly all day on a charge.

Thanks, Outacontrol41. I looked long and hard for a paint scheme on the Airliners.net site and couldn't find anything that turned my crank. I wanted something different than the usual, so I did my own thing. I do have a mixture of ideas from there. I was trying to not have to repaint all the yellow hardware. As it turned out, I just had to do the cowl, flaps and ailerons.
I am anxious to start on my big 1/3 B-USA Super Cub. (winter project)

Nice job on your DPM Super Cub, Mark. I'd like to rip off the ultracote on mine and do some fabric and unique paint scheme sometime too. Maybe this winter. How's your Keleo headers holding up?
