Pro...
VERY impressive!! That's how I like to scale to, that high level so that the viewer doesn't know its your model or the real thing! But then, your name says it all. :D Good job! This is one I built and scaled recently..... http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_16...36/key_/tm.htm |
RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Hi ProScaleRc, your Cub looks great. Did you cut the door in and make it work? It looks like it would open. I was thinking of doing that on mine and then started to think about looseing strength. I've got the 1/3 BUSA S Cub kit to build and figured to scale it out more. The bigger they get, the easier it is to work with.
Thanks for sharing your Cub. Mark |
RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Outacontrol, your Pawnee is gorgeous. Ever since I saw Dick Grahams model in the mags, I knew I had to have one. Thats been allot of years ago. Seems like someone finally lit a fire and got the ag planes going. They are all over and I'm lovin it. Have you had a look at Hostetlers new plan. I'm leaning that way. My concern is that I won't live long enough to get them all built. Guess thats what keeps us going.
Thanks for sharing your pics, Mark |

I was also worried about the strength of the airframe, so I just cut out the forward window strut, but kept the inner and painted that black so it's not noticeable. I made the door from architect's plastic, added a handle and fake hinges, and presto. It fits in nicely with the forward fuse aluminium sheeting and rivets. For this I used some 0.5mm aluminium sheeting I found at the local hardware store and some Dubro size 1 Allen-head button screws. Just after taking these photos I added screws to the front windscreen using .01 model railway screws. I'll take some more photos in a few weeks. I started installing the OS 1.60 last weekend. Doesn't look as pretty as the Black Knight, but it'll fly great and the smoker will look fantastic. Cheers, James |
RE: Dave Patrick super cub
TripleD,
Thanks for the kindness.....appreciated. [8D] I saw the Hostetler plans. Too late, I've got 2 quarter scale Piper Pawnees, a Cessna AgWagon from Autars in Australia, and now waiting for Duane Habets' Agcat kit to come out. Plus I've got a H9 Piper Pawnee and an old Kyosho AgWagon. I think I'm covered for now. But things could change later. [:-] Well, later....:D |
RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Hey James, I wish I would have been as inventive as you on my door. I could have just as easily done something like that if I would have thought of it. One more reason to see others pics.

RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Outacontrol, you are well equiped on ag planes. How about Hollis Calvert's Air Tractor 502B? Do you have any thoughts about it? I was also wanting to go with that one sometime. Have you seen any fly?
Too many projects and not much time. I need to get off this puter and start glueing my fingers together. Thanks, Mark |

Thanks, Mark My general rule of thumb is "if I've seen it fly, sat in it, or even got close enough to touch it", it becomes my sought after model to add to my fleet. All my current planes fall under this little self written rule. I've never seen an Air Tractor, on the ground or up in the air, so I'm not really feeling the need to build one at the moment. By no means am I knocking it, though. It IS an ag plane and I resect it as such. BTW...I've never seen a Thrush either. My area has Gruman Ag Cats buzzing around each spring. Maybe eventually I will see them all, but I'll probably have to travel to acomplish that. |
RE: Dave Patrick super cub
The #1 goal is to make the PA-18 (Vero Beach version). The second goas is to make the Clipwing version. Ideally, they will be available at the same time. At this time, we are not ready to tell people what areas we are trying to improve. Most of you are correct, there are very little to improve, especially in the areas of performance. The Super Cub will be in yellow UltraKote or Oracover. We simply have not been able to locate a better covering to replicate the Vero Beach version. We do not have plans for an ARC version. Dave has propose it as a later project, but we simply need to take it one step at a time. Secondly, ARC will not be cheaper, as it is really geared toward scale or custom builders
Again, our DPM goal is to complete #1 goal, nothing more. It will be a huge relief for us, if we met your quality/performance expectations. Come by our booths at Toledo or RCX. Can't promise to have Dave there, but you can ask us anything. Can't promise that we can give you answers, but you are more than welcome to ask;) Peace, Steven Chao, CERMARK |

Very nice. We have some full scale pilot's down here that use the Super Cub, stripped down, and land in short creek bed's in the mountains, etc. Looking at the video's, you would think an RC model could not take off in these mountainous terrain's.
I live close to Piper Cub up in Vero Beach, FL. There has been some folk's wanting Piper to start manufacturing the Super Cub again, and maybe the J-3. I am sure it would be a winner. Attached is my stab at a Cub, which is a GP ARF with a little extra work. I had a DP Super Cub on backorder for months, maybe a couple of years, left them $$ info, etc., nothing happened. Crank |

Thats all you'll here when trying to contact DPM!;)

RE: Dave Patrick super cub
I don't know what the current status is, but Cermark was trying to resurrect the line, but I happen to be standing next to their representative at the Toledo Show and asked him how things were coming along on getting the Super Cub to market. From what I recall, they were having issues with quality control!

RE: Dave Patrick super cub
I have a DPM clipped wing cub that I have been flying for a couple of years and I love it. I've been flying it with a Saito 150 but the little engine has finally had the lick so I need to replace it. Since I started flying this cub I have bought 3 more airplanes and have went with gas on all 3 and would like to convert this one over to a G26. Has anyone tried this on the DPM, how does it preform, how does it fit in the cowl, and any other recommendations would be nice.
Also,I would like to find a set of long wings complete with flaps so I will have the option of flying clipped or long wing. I have floats and skiis when I get bored with the wheels and it does fine on all three but its a little hotter on landing then I like when flying off the water,I think the long wing would be a great investment when I take her to the lake. I had a set on order from DPM but never received them before DMP went out. I might even be interested in a damaged set as long as they are repairable. Thanks. |

I just noticed that Aeroworks is offering a 110" Super "Sport" Cub ARF, a model of Cub Crafter's latest offering in the LSA category. I saw the ad in the latest Model Aviation rag. No price and there is no mention of it on their website..
Here's a pic of the full size.. |
RE: Dave Patrick super cub
If this new cub from Aeroworks is anything like the Cessna 195 they are suppose to release, you will be
waiting a long time. The cessna 195 still is not out yet and was highlighted at Toledo. I don't know why a distributor or manufacturer would bother with press releases of model aircraft if they never plan on selling them. |
RE: Dave Patrick super cub
I agree! Good question!
|
RE: Dave Patrick super cub
I know this is a cub thread but here is what i was referring to
on the Aero-Works Cessna 195. Says it wont be out until Feb 2010. That is still 4 months away and its already been 6 months since Toledo! Boy they really are wetting one's appetite with the delay, It is a nice airplane, check it out : [link]http://www.aero-works.net/store/detail.aspx?ID=396[/link] |
RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Hello All!
I have a DPM Clipped Wing Super Cub (Orange/White) that I was thinking of selling. I have a brand new O.S. 1.60 Twin w/ custom exhaust mounted on it and a cockpit kit for it. I am not sure when I would be able to finish it is the only reason why I would think of selling it. I am not going to give it away but would take a reasonable offer. I live in Castle Rock, Colorado. Please let me know if anyone is interested. Thanks |
RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Shame I'm round the other side of the planet! I'd be a starter :D You don't have anyone in the Air National Guard bringing a C-130 or C-17 to Christchurch, NZ ?? Wishful thinking.....
Good luck with your sale, Cheers, Paul |
RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Update: December 21, 2009, CERMARK will be allow a limited preview of the new DPM Super Cub, PA-18, at the 2009, AMA Expo in Ontario, California. Right now, we will not post any official information on CERMARK website.
Please swing by our booth and let us know what you think. |
RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Aeroworks should have their new one there also. They have all the info on their website.

RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Steven Chao
Thanks for your continued effort to bring this great plane back. I still have mine with an OS 160 twin and fly it regularly. It still is the best ARF I have ever built. I hope the reissue is is good as the original, and I hope the new one has parts that can be used on the original kit. For information, sadly I report that the originatior of this thread , Bud Faulkner, passed away last year. Look at some of the pictures of his work earlier in this thread, and you will see the hobby has lost a great craftsman |
RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Farmerric,
Thanks for sharing the passing of Bud. I did not know that. Bud was a very nice guy and a true craftsman. He will indeed be missed.:( |
