RCR has the most honest reviews I have ever seen. I guess they buy all of their review items so they don't owe any favorable words where they really don't belong as opposed to the reviews the manufacturers department plugs into most other magazines.

Someone at the field had a copy of RC Report today and I was able to read the review on the clipped wing cub. I'll say this for them, the review was very detailed and seemed to tell it like it really is. Dick Pettit seemed to be pleased with the plane and engine combo. So maybe I'm premature with my opinion of being a tad under powered. He was using a 18x6 APC. He said he flew at half throttle most of the time.

After thumbing thru the magazine today, If I was going to subscribe to a RC magazine then RC Report would be my choice. There seemed to be more information and a little less advertising than the others.

If someone could help me here, I would appreciate it. I have read all the threads on here about engine selection, and have foud several options. I would like to stick with gas due to clean up and sound. Has anyone heard of someone putting the new Brillelli 25 in it? My cub is on its way(if it isnt backordered) and i would like to see if this engine would fit. Now what i need, is for someone with the plane to take a few measurements of the inside of the cowl for me, and tell me if this engine would fit. I really appreiate te help guys.

Dimensions-
Length, back of prop to backplate - 5.5 in.
Width, muffler to carb - 5.5 in.
Height, plug to bottom most part of engine - 6.75 in.

Well sorry to report I am no further than I was a week ago other than test fitting the Keleo muffler to the engine. The Activities Coordinator (wife) had me all tied up with outings, and I had to finish the deck. [:o] But if all goes well i should be back on track by the end of the week. I couldn't even sneak out to the field this weekend. Ill get some pics up in the next night or so. I have not routed my antenna yet. I did read the plastic tube inside the top fuselage was supposed to house the antenna. Any thoughts?

well yall im getting my friends piper cub a sig model that about maybe 10yrs+ old and has a twin cylinder four stroke 1.08 sounds like a harley and very scale for only 650 ready to fly just add reciever and transmitter wich i already had i test flew it three take offs and landings and a loop roll really nice!!!!

Flyn,

I did not use the tube that was inside the fuse. I did not want to run the antenna that close to the pull pull cables. It would probably have been okay to route it that way, but I've read that you could possibly get interference from the cables.

I ran mine thru the bottom and glued a peice of nyrod to the bottom of the fuse and routed it thru there. You can't see it very well and it gave me some peace of mind.

Hill, I ran my antenna through the tube provided in the fuselage and it makes for a nice neat installation with the antenna minimally protruding out of the fuselage. Although I must admit I ditched the stock cables and opted for the Dubro 4-40 pull-pull system (which comes with insulated cables) concerns about interference wasn't the reason I chose the Dubro, for me it was more of a quality/reliability issue where the insulation would prevent any kind of fraying. Bottom line though, I haven't had a bit of problems.

Spackler, your engine will fit just fine. The only thing is that the plug and part of the head will stick out the bottom. This is why the twin four strokers are such a good choice. They fit in the cowl without sticking out and sound awesome.

I will go with the OS 160T. Has anyone seen the Cactus Aviation 24cc gas engine used in the DP SC? Trying to eliminate the glow fuel mess.
Also, I have a SC on backorder with DP. Any word on production/delivery?

I have an evolution 25cc gas. See post #667.
It' not overpowered, it is just right.
However, cubs do not like power, they like slow and smooth!

I plan on it, weather permitting. We are in this cycle of great weather during the week and bad on the weekend. Last weekend the winds were 25mph+. Forecast says rain this Sat. I think Sunday is the best day. Its hard for me to go during the week. Stupid job is really interfering with my flying

I have a clipped wing with a new 1.60 twin and the same standoffs you have used. My question is how did you position the engine on the mounts in order to mount the engine and what did you use to secure the mounts and standoffs to the cub? I have read through this thread and cannot figure out the process to mounting this engine with the standoffs on this plane. My dad and I hope to get this done this weekend but are a little confused. Under usual circumstances we would clamp the engine on a standard two piece mount then sit the clamped motor on the fire wall and make fine adjustments until we liked its position. THis process cannot be done with standoffs. Your help would be greatly appreciated and also your cub is beautiful. Also, have you had any problems with the wheel pant mounts cracking off of the gear? We have and JB Weld seems to have worked for the short term, we'll see how it holds up after a few flights.

The 160FT will respond well to a APC 17X6 with a max rpm of approximately 9000 on 10% nitro. It will provide good thrust and forward speed. I use this on a Spacewalker with god results. Hope to get a DP SC some day soon.

Lets see if I can explain how I did it. The mounts come with several spacers. You need to first determine what length your standoffs need to be. Mount the cowl and measure from the firewall to the cowl and add 1/8 inch. Now mount the mounting plate to the engine and measure the depth from the plate to the thrust washer. The difference between these two measurements is the length your standoffs need to be.

Now, I CA glued the spacers together to ease handling. I used 1/4 inch bolts to mount the engine and standoffs to the firewall. This required drilling out the holes in the engine mount plate to 1/4 inch. I did this because the holes in the standoffs are 1/4 inch. I wanted a tight fit with the bolts in the standoffs.

Now, I used the bolts to align the standoffs onto the mount plate and I CA glued the mounts to the plate. The engine, engine mount plate and standoffs are now one unit. Take the cowl off the fuse. Place the engine with standoffs glued to it, on the firewall, the plane must be standing on its tail ( you'll need several helping hands). Now mount the cowl back on the fuse with the engine assy. on the firewall and center the crankshaft in the hole in cowl. Once centered, carefully remove cowl without disturbing engine. Mark your holes and drill them out. I drilled the holes one at a time rechecking my alignment each time.

Regarding the wheel pant brackets, I tried JB weld and it would not hold, maybe I mixed it wrong but I was able to snap them right off. I cleaned them and used a micro torch and mechanical solder. They seem to be holding fine. I fly off a paved runway so wheel pants usually hold up as long as you keep them out of tall grass.

Thanks very much for some great info. I thought CA might come into play during mounting and many sets of hands to hold the plane upright. I'll be getting this done this weekend and post a few pics of our work.

Ok, I read many post here but have not seen the one I am looking for. I am currently building this plane and the directions make reference to flaps. My plane does not have flaps. Am I going crazy?
