Hill, great to hear about your successful maiden but I think that's too much prop for that engine guy! I know it's not a true comparison, but for example I'm running a Saito 150 single cylinder (which is just a tad smaller in displacement than the 160 Gemini) and I'm swinging a 16 x8 at 9300 rpm full bore. Needless to say, my full wing DPSC hauls ***** and I have to throttle back to fly it scale. Everybody at the field tells me that it's overpowered, and it is, but I'm saving all that power for when I put it on floats, I'll need it then he! he! You might want to try a 16x8 or 16x10 and see how it goes. On another note that's the scale size prop for the Cub!

You may be right Orvel. The book says for scale/sport flying use 16x8, 18x6. 18x8, 20x6. it says to use an 18x6 for break in, I guess to keep the rpms down. After about a gallon maybe I should drop down to 16x8.

I am turning a Mejlick 18X8 around 7000. You can imagine, plenty of power.
And it's a clipped wing.
However, IT IS STILL VERY SLUGGISH.
I can go faster, It does NOT like it.
It wants to fly slow and steady, it is a joy.
If you want to push the enveloppe, it becomes sluggish and a poor flier.
If you want acrobatics, it's the wrong plane, if you want slow and elegant, nothing beats it.
Happy flying and enjoy it for what it is.

Hill, I'll gaurantee you an increase in performance with a Menz or Bolly prop. I was running a standard 20-10 Zinger on my OS 300 FS Twin in a Christen Eagle bipe and couldn't get much vertical performance. A buddy gave me a Menz 20-10 when I broke the Zinger one day and I couldn't believe the difference. Just that prop change gave me near unlimited vertical. I also like to run 20% four stroke fuel like Powermaster 20-20 or Wildcat 20%. Pretty zippy stuff.

Gbrod, slow and elegant accurately describes the maiden. I'm not looking for a rocket but I would like a little more umph to get out of trouble if needed.

Tripledeucer, interesting, there is another prop that starts with a B, can't recall the name. It is a real pretty prop. I've always heard that if you increase pitch its best to decrease in diameter to prevent the loss of rpm.

so how about a 17x8 Bolly or that other one that starts with a B.

Where is a good place to buy these type of high end props?

Hill, Your thinking of the Bielia props. I have no expierience with them other than I own one I have never run yet. If you do a Google search for Bielia props, you will come up with a few hits. Probably the most notable is TNT Landing gear. I have used the Mejzlik carbon props on alot of different motors and they are an excellent choice also. Desert Aircraft has them along with the Bollys, I believe.

Here is a shot of the Bielia on my Cub. One other thing I have found is when you run a good carbon prop, it will run smoother and you most likely will be able to run the next size bigger than your old wood prop. More efficiant in my estimation.

Triple Duecer, (Mark) - This is a very late reply. I spoke with Sandy at DP. Gave them CC info, put a yellow one on BO. She says they will ship, first come, first serve. She did not guarantee that I will get one, but took the order, said wait till summer, this year. I don't know if it is early summer, late, etc.

I had thought about trying to find one somewhere, but thinking the later production SC's may have some improvements since they have been in the field for some time now.

I was optimistic once... I have have a white one orderd through the LHS since either late February or early March of 2005. Last word I had was what you heard... maybe by Summer. Not sure what year, but still hoping it is this year. I've got the OS FT 160, glow driver, radio, and a few small items waiting. I already used the wheels for the DPM Cub on a 25 year old Basla USA 1/4 scale Cub with an OS 120 FT, and the servos in a Funtana 90.

I am thinking of ordering the Keleo exhaust since it will take a while, and then there are the SWB stand-offs to only do it right. I am sure I will have everything, I mean everything, by the time the kit comes in. Then I am sure the weather here in Illinois will be pure crap.

On a much lighter side. All of the projects I have seen on this forum have looked GREAT. Everyone looks to have some nice flying airplanes and have done a great job getting them into the air. At least the wait has given me a little education on what hardware to consider. At least I didn't have to invent the wheel here. Thanks to everyone for their input. Hope they all keep flying...

Thanks for the information on the props! I just recieved my new OS 1.60 FT, Keleo exhaust, and standoffs yesterday. I am hoping to have it mounted by the end of the weekend. Ill get some pictures up. Hang in there on the wait, its worth it!

Maxx products Deluxe system for Twins, easy set-up. Just follow the directions, it works great. Comes with 3600mah battery and charger. I think it was around $75.00.

I agree ElectroDynamics makes some great stuff. I have two of their on-board glow systems, one on the SC and the other one on my Lancair, and never had a bit of problems.

For $40 the ED dosen't come with a battery, charger, or plug leads, but can be had for another $46. I didn't see it on the website but you can get the accessory package EDR1038A without the charger for $31.
What does the MPI have for $75 ?

The MPI comes with 3600 battery, charger, LED indicator, toggle switch.

On the MPI you plug the throttle servo into the unit and the unit into the throttle slot on the RX. It also has a lead to plug into an extra channel. This enables you to over ride the auto shut off if you need to light a cylinder in flight. The toggle switch is a safety measure to prevent unintentional glow lighting.

I have mine programmed to come on at 1/4 throttle or less.

Its really very user freindly.

I just picked up the June issue of Fly RC. Frank Tiano does a review of the SC in it. He is using the MPI glow driver and likes it. Most everything he says is stuff we already know about the SC. He is using the Saito 182 twin and says it has unlimited power for this plane.

RC REPORT MAG ! The best RC mag out there. RCM is toast, MAN is ads cover to cover, and some girl doing the editorials. Nothing wrong with a girl doing anything, but all geared to marketing and promotion. Pays the bills I guess.
