Hi Fossil,
Sorry this thread got hostile but I hope it's back on track now. You say it's the yellow one? Thought at first you may have the ARC version but maybe someone stripped the covering. It's been a while since I've gone through this entire thread but I do believe there are some using the 120 FS or similar, I know there are some Saitos being used. The Ryobi is a little stronger than a G26 (26cc on the G26 I think) and will fly it with power to spare. The weight may be an issue, you're Ryobi is what....maybe 60 oz? the G26 is 53oz. I have the O.S. 160 FT in mine at 39 oz. The tail wire bracing is an easy fix. I used music wire and some tubing from the LHS or you can buy what the manual shows at the LHS. Same for the control horns...easy fix. If you need decals get some graphics cut to your liking. If you decide to sell you will have a bunch of guys jumping at the chance to have it. These are only my opinions as I'm no expert by any means, you will probably get others. Bud |
RE: Dave Patrick super cub

RE: Dave Patrick super cub
I'll buy it if you are considering selling. Let me know if/when it's available.
I can be contacted at: , or . Phone is (403) 807-9252 Bryan Hodges |
RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Thanks Bud the pics help for the wires, what are the end pieces that the screws go through made from? & did you just solder them to the wires? You wouldn't happen to have a close up of the ends would you? There were people talking about putting the 120s in but I don't remember anyone saying how it flew. The ryobi if I use it will have an electronic ignition so should be a little lighter.
Frank give me a couple of days to be sure I don't want to keep it and I'll post some pics of it and let you know how much I want. If I sell it I'll make an add here on RCU and give you first shot at it. fossil |
RE: Dave Patrick super cub
i think it is a clevise soldered or threaded the pin end is cut off then a small bolt goes thru one with a hole on each side, many engines will work the two you have are great but from the tread bud started, the engine that had the most talk was the os 1.6 twin 4c, sound and scale power, thanks frank

Fossil, the end pieces are aluminum tube from the K&S tubing rack at the LHS. Flatten one end and drill for screw. The wire is threaded one end 4-40 and the screw was just for effect as per pictures of the real one. Slid a short piece of alum tube over and up to screw and all is held in place with ca except where it is bolted. Do you have any pictures you can post here and is it the full wing cub or clipped? BTW anyone needing a new cowl I just found out Fiberglass master has one for the DPM cub for $38.00.

RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Okay I see now that's a better picture of the tube. That should be easy to make. Yes mine is the yellow full 105" wing PA 18 Super Cub. I will get it out tomorrow and take some pics and post them. Thanks again
Frank I think you are around 450 miles away from me by Interstate anyway. Might be shorter going through Alabama but not sure if it would be any quicker. bhodges If I decide to sell it I will post here before I put the add up, but if I do decide to I don't see me trying to ship it. It will probably be pick up only or if someone is not too far away might be willing to drive part way for gas & lunch money. fossil |
RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Hi Fossil.
If you do sell it to me, I can arrange for UPS to pick it up from you, if that is acceptable. |
RE: Dave Patrick super cub
how about a happy meal or taco bell[&:] going to google map thanks frank99

Fossil
Welcome to the thread whichshould stay informative from now on. An OS 120 should fly the cub scale -like. I had a Sig Cub which was the same size (~104 inches) and the same weight(16 llbs) and it flew quite well with an Enya 120 and better with an OS 120 The tail wires are easy to make, you can use stainless wire with crimp sleeves, or even nylon covered stainless fishing wire with crimps. I used solid push rods with Du-Bro clevises on the ends, they are easier to make and keep their tension during periods of hanger rash application Cant say about the Ryobi, but if you compare its weight with an OS 160 twin (which I used) you might get a rough idea from the difference in weights if you have to counter balance. I used no balance weight at all with the servos and radio in the recommended positions if you decide to keep the Cub, you will have a rare jewel. Its the best ARF I've seen and it flys like a Cub! |

Thanks for the info farmerric that helps.
frank99 I love taco bell Well first I must have been on drugs when I picked the cub up because I swear there were no decals on this plane. Well when I went to the garage to get it out to take pics I think the decal fairy had came and put them on because in has the numbers & lightning bolt stripe on the fuse & cub emblem on the tail. Not sure if thats all there is suppose to be though. Here are the pics of it, its in excellant shape. I could only find two small imperfections on the whole plane, its on the right flap which are in pics 8 & 9. Pic 4 show the parts that I got with the cub, there is some wire for the tail braces but no tabs to mount it with. The pull pull for the rudder is installed as is the pushrod for the elevator, but other than what is in the parts pic some of the pushrods for the flaps & ailerons are missing as is one of the control horns (I'm sure I have some though). Pic 11 shows there is one cover for the flap servo bay missing (should be easy to make). Pic 10 shows a remote glow plug that is installed. The cowl is untouched and the front windshield has not been installed yet, the other windows have been installed. The landing gear is perfect and works, and the wing tube, bolts, and wing support braces are installed and are complete except the four bolts to mount the struts to the fuse. It won't take but a little bit and it can be flying, I think I want to sell it until I get it out and this plane is awesome, so I'm still unsure if I want to sell it. Its the weekend time to go fly so here are the pics I took today. If I can't get them all in this post I make another with the rest. fossil[img][/img][img][/img] |

If the control surfaces are already mounted, you are ahead of one of the complaint areas on the assembly...the hinge hole were too small and were hard to dig out |
RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Yea I read that so it saves some time for sure. I think a day or two and I could have it flying. My biggest problem is I can't afford to buy a bigger motor to go in it so I have 2 options. I go with the OS 120 and see how it flies or put the Ryobi in it, but I don't want to ruin the look by cutting the cowl and have the big engine head sticking out. I do have a saito 150 but it is currently in my PT 17 Stearman which is way over powered. I could swap motors and put the OS 120 in the stearman and put the 150 in the Cub but that would be a pain. I would love to have a Evolution 26GT2 to put in it, its small enough so I don't think much of the engine would stick out unlike the ryobi which has a big cylinder head. I have the great planes 60 size cub in the clipped wing version 83" and the full wing is 90" and it flies great with an old tired thunder tiger 91 fourstroke. Thats not that much smaller than this so I bet the OS 120 would fly it fine.

RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Fossil
With all of those options, I would go with the OS 120, Especially if you dont have to cut the cowl. A four stroke sounds right for a Cub too |
RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Yea I think you are right, at least I dont have to cut the cowl and then if the 120 is not enough I can always try something else later.
I also have decided that I am not going to sell it, I am going to finish it. If something changes I'll post here but it is so beautiful and I love cubs so I'm looking foward to getting it in the air. fossil |

Hey Group,
I think I know why it is taking so long to get a DPM PA-18 Supercub Kit... |
RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Just as I thought. I didn't want to come out with it but I suspected this all along. Thanks for bringing us the evidence, Ray. And by now, no doubt, the ship has been raided and looted for all it's worth. And now H9 is coming out with their new lookalike cubs all of a sudden. Talk about timing, huh? Hey wait a minute! Do think that maybe?....nah! Nevermind.

RE: Dave Patrick super cub
I noticed there is a NIB Dave Patrick Cub for sale here on RCU in the Giant section I believe. He is asking $1100 with Evoloution GT26 or $700 for just the plane.

RE: Dave Patrick super cub
I'm going to Scopes.com to check out this "Dave Patrick Super Cub" urban myth.....
|
RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Hi Fossil.
Where did you spot the ad? Thanks |
RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Bhodges,
The ad was in the Classifieds here on RCU.......May still be........One guy wanted to seperate the plane and engine so the owner priced the plane at $700 and the engine at $400. So this buyer said he'd give the $700 for the plane...........then another guy sees whats going on and comes in with an offer of $750 for the plane and the thing has turned into an instant Auction.........last time I looked there was an offer pending on the plane and engine for $1100........which was the asking price.........Geez, you'd think with the New Hangar 9 J3 coming, the demand for DP's Super Cub would start to simmer. Guess not...................... |
