Default Ignition Module Placement

Is it ok to place the ignition module here. Is it too close to the engine mounts?

There is fine. I usually mount them on the fire wall. I do use a neoprene backing to try to help isolate the vibration but have never had a problem hard mounting if it's called for.

No problems at all mounting it there. The only thing you want to take into account in mounting the ignition module is to keep it away from any radio components, including servos.

Nope no problem.

Most people mount their ignitions on the motor box itself, or on the firewall.

It helps to cover the braided metal outer wire with some of those commerical split "wraps" to prevent it from chafing.

Also try to put foam under the ignition, and then bind it in place, so the foam also helps prevent shock problems.

Is it better to have the spark plug wire pointed straight down or is it ok to have it go up and wrap around the top. It makes it cleaner to go up and around.

Do whatever puts the least amount of stress on the wires, and is not likely to move nor get in the way of other wires, pushrods, etc. nor get caught when you put on the cowl.

In your case I would normally mount it with the spark plug wire down as this maximizes the reach to the plug ( making plug removal easier later ), then wiretie the excess in place to a wire hold down...

And that includes a throttle or choke servo. Ihave seen guys isolate everything 10" back from the module and then put a micro choke servo in the cowl near the plug.

Absolutely. And to add to that, use a plastic control rod for your throttle. If you use metal it will carry the interference from the ignition straight back to the radio. Iprefer Goldenrod, but any plastic control rod will work

Then there was me who broke all the rules and got away with it for a couple of years, THEN GOT BIT IN THE BUTT!! I have mounted choke and throttle servos right next to the ignition without a problem. Then the last big plane I set up I tried to get away with my old {wrong} ways and had so much RF I couldn't have ever flown the plane. I had to completely change the set up the correct way {normal} and I was still getting bumped a bit. I ended up moving everything back 2 feet away before I got that plane off the ground. Sometimes you get the Bear and sometimes!!!!!!!!!!
