Default Fuel Dot Question ????

Hi,

Just a question what is a fuel dot system ??? ive never heard of that anywhere over here in the uk, most of my planes have cowls, and i use the quick filler valuves. I know these are known for thier problems but most of my planes its impossible to access the engine inside the cowl.

Any suggestions as to a different method or filling and de-fueling the plane in this setup ? i normally use fuel tanks with 3 lines if that makes a difference.....

Thx for any help. as i still have a few more kits to build and would like to try a diff method.

A fuel dot is just an aluminum plug that plugs the fill line when you have fueled the plane.

You can go to www.jtecrc.com and click on accessaries. Under fueler you will see a typical fuel dot. Tower Hobbies carries there line as well. [&:]

Yes it's a plug, but it's also a fitting that mounts to the cowl with a nut, the "plug" fits into the fitting.

On the fill line is where it is used.
2 or 3 line systems are the same.

Can't use a fuel dot on a two line system. You will flood the engine. The fuel dot needs to be on the third line by itself.

I use fuel dots on a two line system and never flood the engine, I use a T and a check valve and the fuel goes to the tank not the carb.

Maybe I'm missing something but how does a check valve stop the flow of fuel to the carb when fueling? That's the same direction the fuel has to travel when the engine is running.

Yeah, check valve doesn't make sense, but I haven't had too much trouble by simply closing the carb before fueling. But I think a lot of it depends on the relationship of Fuel Dot placement compared to the level of the carb and the tank. (oh, and it helps if you can remove the pressure line from the muffler.)
