Yup, today my dad and my cousin went to the filed, an instructor inspected it, and then flew it. Even though its free my dad gave him $10. Turns out he was the president of the club, and of course didnt let me fly it, he knew i didnt have AMA and that it was my first time. I screwed it up. He told me to go get a buddy box and cord. I was PISSED, then I just packed up everythin and left, because I knew i could fly it. On the way I made my dad stop at a developing neighbourhood (nobody there) and we stopped at a medium sized lot with trees on the sides but it formed a square of nothing in the middle except for alot debris and bricks and rocks on the ground. My dad and uncle were saying to just do it and get it over with, they "knew" i would crash it. I laughed, got out of the card, started that thing in one turn, full throttle just before a mound of bricks I lift it up like a wall, and there it was flying, I slowed it to half throttle, made some tight turns, got the plane towards me (its a habit i learned with the sim...) and behind me was the car. My dad got scared and told me to LAND NOW!, i was like holly CRAP!!, the plane went just over the car, ALMOST into a palm tree, and i put throttle to low, did 4 turn, going up and down, in circles (over the lot) until it got slower, then landed it flat parallel with the ground across the street of the lot, and it barely hit a tree which stopped the little cone of the propeller
. My dad and cousin were amazed, cant beleive it, and the plane intact. I just had to fly it today....

you did something REALLY stupid that day....even if you did use the sim and you were pretty confident in your flying abilities, you shouldn't have done that....[:@]all you had to do was go get the buddy box and let the president of the club hook it and you could have been flying for the afternoon if you wanted...you put your dad and cousin in serious risked of being hurt and that is NOT cool. with the buddy box all the instructor has to do is give you the controls and you could have showed him that you were confident enough to fly on your own and all you needed to do was get your AMA.......[:@][:@][:@]

I went to a club's field yesterday and didnt have a plane but they let me fly a trainer which didn't belong to the guy that helped me and i thought i was good but i havn't had a chance to use a simm or anything, the only trouble i had was once i got confused when it was coming at me but he explained how to do it and it was simple, the only other times he took over was when i wasn't that high in the air,he told me he wanted it higher just in case i got in a bind he could recover it without losing or crashing it.I feel lucky that i had a chance to really understand you dangerous it is but that's just me,other people are different but you cant expect to go to a field and go flying all by yourself, just think of there responsibilitys if they just let you fly without any help and without the ama card i dont think they will let people fly at any clubs field just for that purpose,it's called safety and insurance.I'm not preaching at you but i hope one day you'll understand.

Dude.. Really uncool!!
You know it really is about safety!! Learning to fly by yourself is fine.. It's
your money.. And ONLY!!! If it's ONLY YOU that can get hurt.. Once others
can be involved in your troubles... That makes it UNSAFE And UN-COOL!!
Have Fun!!

I will go down any road but will you go with me ?.Think about it before you answer as it could get hairy or even worse.

Gtac, what were you thinking when you went to a club... the poor guy... he will feel bad if/when you crash! Of COURSE he wanted you to fly on buddy box: either go their and listen or leave them alone and ignore them completly, it is hard on the people there to try to go in between
Next time stay away from the car.

I didn't say you couldn't, but you put the guy at the field in a tough situation. He wants to guard against the chance that you crash (most people do at one time or another
) and he did not want you to crash at his field. I am simply saying you put the guy in a bad situation: having him help you prep your plane and than getting mad at him when he wanted you to use the buddy box.

I flew it in a place filled with trees. You think i cant fly in 20 acre field with its own runway?

Hey GTac01,
Your missing the point.. Sure people new or old timers can fly in a smaller
area.... Could your radio go on the blink.. Say the reciever battery or rec.
servos, linkage etc. go on the blink... How far can a plane fly with a full
tank of fuel... Can your plane fly over those trees???
Sure all could happen with or with out instructors or clubs... But ...
Without an AMA card.... Who would foot the bill if the above conditions
would arise???? And say, FAR fatched someone got hurt or something got
damaged!! You??? Your Dad??? Which I must add sounds like a GREAT
Dad!!
Yes worse case scenarios, But they do happen!! All most people here want
to do is help!! And show the things people learned the hard way!!
Be Good and have Fun... Always Think, cover yourself, And be SAFE!!

Gtac, just go west on southern, west of lion country. There is a ton of open fields out there. Go far enough off the road and the sky is the limit. I met the club president myself too today, he was trying to push the club on me. I dont have time for that, I just like to fly.

Im not too hot on the fields either, i like to be in my own place to fly so i dont have to deal with all those egocentric pilots. It would be smart to get into a more secluded field to fly, but i guess if your dad was in that much danger, he could have got into the car.

Sorry to preach too, GTac, but I'll just summarize the AMA benefits.
LIABILITY INSURANCE!!!
Here's the IF: what would happen if someone got hurt? YOU would get sued, and without AMA, YOU would pay all that $$$ to the person that you hurt!
Think of yourself as the person that got hurt! Would you like it?
Plus many other benefits. It must be realized that EVERYONE here at the forum is only trying to help you. The advice people are giving you have worked on TONS and TONS of people before! People before have learned the hard way!
Sorry to preach, GTac, and sorry to offend you, if I am offending you, but everyone here on this forum is your friend. I know that frustration. I currently have that same frustration, waiting for my AMA card to arrive.
Also, I'm not a 60-year-old dude. I'm 12, similar (i'm guessing) to your age.
Sorry if I'm being rude.
This hobby is really fun if you just brush off the frustration.
Next time you're at the field, tell us about your first flight.

As the member of a club I can fully understand the actions of the club instructor. There are safety issues as well as the insurance that having the ama carries, you may be able to pay for a car or some other damage but you cant put a price on a human life.I cant imagine any club allowing anyone who has never flown to fly unassisted for the above reasons and perfect example of this is my son has the nascar game on the computer and I have played it numerous times but can you imagine me going to nascar and saying i have never driven a race car but i have done it on the computer what do you think they would say if i wanted to bring my car on the track for a few laps. The point being you have to start somewhere. With all that said it is a great hobby and wish you all the luck with your flying.Keepem flying and have fun

I cant help but to post on this one. I have never been on the instructor / club band wagon simply because I believe that if you live in an area like me (Farmland), and you play it safe go ahead and go for it. HOWEVER, what I cant understand is the following.
You were allowed at the clubs field.. !QUOT!Dude!QUOT! thats called a foot in the door. I may not be a band wangoner, but if ya got a club near by become a member. With that said... you had another plus which for some reason you mentioned was a negative to have the club PRESIDENT test your plane, AND offered to help you on the cord. !QUOT!DUDE!QUOT! you blew it. If he got the same impression I get of you.. you wouldn't be allowed back. You got mad when he wouldn't let you fly it yourself? Come on! The more I think about this maybe it is better you stick to flying alone because you sound spoiled and disrespectful. I don't care how old you are. There are two types of RC'ers the Trained club members, and the do it yourself-fer's. It chills me to say that after reading this post you give the do-it yourself-fer a bad name. I have in the past read post where one is being flamed for trying to fly without help, and felt bad for them. Well I cant say the same for this post. I have decided to flame simply because your about to spontaneously com-bust anyway.

The more I think about this, the more I think this is a bunch of Bull S**t. This is a setup. I'm suprised it has taken you guys this long to realize it. This guy is using too many words of experienced pilots to be a first timer. He's really gotten your goats too. He's probably having a good laugh at the expense of a lot of guys trying to help him. Let this one die. The guy is full of it. He's flown before and he thinks this is a real gas.

Maybe ....maybe not. Seems to me that your dad tried to pay off the club Pres and when he said you couldn't fly...you got a case of the a**. In the long run the instructor, and you did the best thing. He denied you based on HIS obligation to safety, and the other club members. You left out of anger and frustration. Sounds like you have an attitude...and here's a lesson for ya...keep giving attitude and that's all you will get in return. You only get what you give in this world. This applies to your participation on RCU too.
If you can't play by the rules, and must resort to bribes...to get what you want...at least don't be cheap about it!

I think I will have to agree with DownSideUp. GTac01 has used tons of plane jargon. Either he has read the forums a lot or GTac is not who he seems to be.
