Default flaperons

I have been flying since March so I am relatively new. I bought a used Goldberg Suhkui and I set up real flight to match the specs. I cannot get the plane down without bouncing. Will flaperons help? Any other tips? I do not want to fly it until I can at least get the sim plane down right.

Flapperons *may* help, but you will need to be able to take-off and land before you set up your flapperons.... i.e. Flapperons require some "fiddling" to egt right, and the effect is not predictable until you try them. i.e. You may find that flapperons de-stabilise the plane rather than stabilise it.

Bouncy landings are not too much of a problem, and flapperons are not really your answer.

Bottom line: don't count on flapperons for making it easier... although they may. Further, you will need a few flights before you can set them up right anyways, so there are a few flights without them anyways.

Bouncing is usually a sign that you are coming in to fast, too steep, or both or are trying to "wheel land" it.

Yes, Flaperons will help but you should also learn to land without them.

It could be your approach angle is to steep, you are holding to much speed on final or any number of other factors. I found the Sukhoi lands nice if you maintain a shallow approach angle and hold just one or 2 clicks of power until crossing the end of the runway, then chop power and continue to feed in up elevator SLOWLY. It will usually settle into a nice 3 point landing. If the mains touch first hold the elevator steady and try not to "catch" the bounce with the elevator.

In a sim it's hard to see the plane out in the distance especially if you do not have zoom turned on. This is good though since you do not "zoom in" in the real world and must make the judgement call based on what you see.

The idea is to get all three wheels on the ground at the same time and be right at the stall so the plane stays on the ground. Go up and practice stalling the plane to see at what speed the plane stalls. Once you have that reference then land.

Here are a few possibilities.

If your plane bounces and then resumes flying for a while then you 1) hit too hard and 2) are carrying too much speed. To fix this you are going to have to reduce your air speed and your descent rate.

If your plane just bounces, but comes back to the ground immediately, then you just hit too hard. Most likely, you flared too high off the ground. In this case, you need to let the plane get closer to the ground before it stalls.

Here's the way I land. This works fairly well for my planes. I keep the airspeed up, but let the airplane sink until I get within a couple feet of the ground, and over the runway. At this point I cut the throttle to idle. Let the plane continue to descend until it's within 3 to 6 inches of the ground. Once it is that close I hold it there and keep feeding in more up elevator. Smooth control inputs are a must at this stage. Put in too much elevator and the plane can baloon to a couple feet. Note, this is one of the places that exponential rates really help, if your radio has them. Continuing to add up elevator slows the plane down and at some point it will stall. Ideally, you want the tires to be just above the ground when it stalls. This will minimize the bounce and even if the plane does bounce a little, it no longer has enough speed to start flying again.

Note, it is also possible to fly the plane onto the ground. I do this when it is windy. To do this you just have to time the descent so the flight path is almost parallel to the ground when the wheels hit. You also have to be sure to let off the elevator, if you put in to much while the plane is still at flying speed, it might go airborne again.

If I understand your post, the bouncing is only on landing in Real Flight. Personally I think the planes on RF bounce easier than real planes. I never bounce my profile or 3d plane in real life, but the profile I downloaded off the Bro Pro website (that has almost the exact same setup as my profile) almost always bounces on the sim.

The above suggestions are good, but keep in mind that on the sim that there are a few things that are not exactly the same.

Famous words - - there are two ways to make perfect landings but no one has yet discovered what they are.

Hey Ballgunner... I have to say you're a little off base with that quote. Perfect landings are possible, I know I've done a few. A FEW. The hobby allows one or two here and there just to keep you hooked. It's the secret of CONSISTENT perfect landings that seems to be elusive...
