I installed the software. Now can't get my TX conected to the computer with the cable that came with the trainer. It came with the mustang PTS. It has a 9 pin cable (female), I think that's the same as my monitor plug. The only other pinned inlet in my computer is a 25 pin printer port (female). So if the cable that came with the trainer was 25 instead of 9 it wouldn't work any way since the they are both female plugs. Any body get theirs hooked up yet?

My computer is a couple of years old and thus has a "game port" built-in to the motherboard. Newer computers don't. That's what that little connector/port is called. Go down to your local compu-geek store, bring the cable with you and buy yourself a "game port" board. It'll be a card that plugs into your pci bus and the connector will exit out the rear of your 'puter. They're dirt cheap. Open the computer first and make sure you have a spare PCI slot, 99 % chance you will.

Thanks Joe. I'll do that in the morning. I'm done , almost, building for the winter and wanted to try out the software I have had for awhile.

Actually, the game port is uses 15 pins. That cable is made for a serial port. Of course, the guy at the store will recognize the DB9 connector. Your newer PC probably has USB ports, and there is such a thing as a serial to USB adaptor.

I used an adapter from the 9 pin to USB and also an adapter from 9 pin to 25 pin and neither worked. I took the cord to Best Buy and they told me there wasn't anything they had that would work. Why would JR use such outdated equipment, why not use a USB, which 99% of computers in use have? I called the Support number and they said I should contact my computer manufacture's support. I think they're sending me on a chase, and I don't even like goose.

I had my P51 Mustang PTS in December 2005. It had 2 cables one cable is naturally for buddy box for (Master & Slave Option) other one has a 9 pin connector which simply connects into 9 pin socket female. other jack is plugged into the left side of JR XF421EX. Now turn on the computer, then plug the jack into the radio, no need to turn radio on, then click on the icon of your Cockpit master which came along with it. As your simulator starts up, it detects that Radio and now u can ready to fly the plane. Its simple, i have been practising on this for the last 2 months. I hope this would be helpful, and its not much big issue.
Thanks

If it's a serial port, then this ought to work. It'll give you 2 serial ports and 1 parallel port [8D].

I read somewhere on the net, can't remember where, that this software and controller will not work on Windows XP, which is what I'm running, but it will on Windows 95 & 98. Anybody know if this is true? If so, where could I still get win 98 to put on a different drive on my computer?

The cockpit master simulation which came with P51 Mustang of Hangar 9 works fine on my windows xp professional edition. Just install it, connect your radio's jack and 9 pin female connnector into 9 pin male connector of your CPU, and here you go and fly it. I never found any problem running on windows xp, infact I have never read that it would not run with windows xp but with windows 98. I have Pentium III 450 Mhz with 128mb RAM, not very advance machine, but that cockpit master sim never gave me any problem, so just check your ports of your computer, and I dont think one needs to buy a new hard disk. try to run disk defragmenter on your computer as well, check viruses and everything, I hope it would work. Best of Luck

I'm sorry, I should have said that you can only use Win 98 & 95 if you're using the printer port on your computer, that's what it should have said.

I run Windows 2000. XP uses the Windows 2000 operating system "kernal". XP is essentially Windows 2000 with "window dressing". Therefore, as stated above, it'll work with Windows XP.
I'm curious, did you send an e-mail to Hangar 9 / Horizon Hobby requesting the USB cable ? Did you get a reply indicating they'd send it ? Even though my computer has the required 9-pin connector and it works fine, I'd also like the USB cable in the event this computer blows up as I know a new computer won't have the serial port as it's an archaic interface.

Its ok lherber,
Im not using printer port, its basically an old mouse port before PS2 mouse, well I wish and hope that your sim should start working, I would rather suggest you to take it to computer shop and show them the problem with it. I hope they would have solution for it and help you run your sim. Best of luck to you, and I hope next post of yours would be about successfull running of your sim. All the best, Happy sim flying.

I used this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16812156003
you have to install the drivers that come with the cable BEFORE you plug it in.
Works for the hangar 9 sim and Clearview for me.

DarrinD I just ordered the usb adapter. I tried a different USB adapter from Best Buy and it didn't work, but it didn't come with sofftware so my computer would support it either though. Will update all soon if it works. Also thank you all for your help, tips, and advice.

No this will not work with USB adaptors.
It only works with a direct serial port hookup.
Don't bother.
The simulator that comes with the PTS is WORTHLESS, Horrible, a piece of @#)@#.
The plane flies like it's sitting on top of a bowling ball. Roll right and instead of the plane rolling around it's own axis, it "slides" over the surface of an invisible ball.
You are not going to learn to fly this way.
Even FMS with it's relatively weak flight model does a much better job.
You CAN get your included TX working (with a serial port hookup) with FMS and software such as PPJOY. This is documented elsewhere.

you might have to reinstall the drivers for the controller and reinstall them again, most software installs tell you not to plug in the controller until after the software is installed.if windows is seeing the new hardware found and starts the found new hardware wizard then windows is doing its job.i would reinstall the software and see if that helps.don't plug in the usb bus until after you get the software back in.win xp can use the fat 32/but most come formatted with the nfts file system.if the software is fat 32 and you are using nfts they aren't compatible.
