Steve if I was you I think I would reinforce that end piece of the box if you plan to pull it around from the hook. You could easily pull the end piece off the box those are no load glue joints unlike a dovetail joint like a dresser drawer. They where not meant for that kind of outward pulling force which you will be applying with the handle. Beef the side section up with some 90 degree angle stock in the outer corners see drawing USE 30 min EPOXY and be neat then you should be fine.

RESPONSE: Okay will do, I will order some 1 inch triangle hardwood stock tonight or tomorrow and glue them in place (if I can find a source that carries them that size, that is the size I would recommend I use.

Also you may need to get BRASS bolts and nuts for your connection brass is a much better conductor of electricity and would provide more current flow. Those other plated blots could provide some level of resistance and not give you full power.

RESPONSE: Okay, will do, I will stop off at Carr Hardware tomorrtow and do that. I almost bought brass too but I thought the opposite, I thought the brass would have LESS conductivity.
Hey Steve what do you think of these 10" tundra casters?

RESPONSE: A bit bigger than my needs call for but I love them. Where did you find them? I hope you are not recommending them for my use as I already purchased the casters I will be using.

I browsed through all the hobby online dealers I know of and I can not find any ply or other hardwood tri-stock. The best I could find was 3/4 balsa tri-stock. Will that be good enough to brace the corners with? I really would have preferred hardwood tri-stock as the rest of the box is ply I would like to have kept it all the same material.

So if I can not find the tri in hardwood will the 3/4 balsa be Ok?

Wow, where have I seen this panel before?

That would be the same one I have - except mine has the Sig livery decorating it.

Yes ken, Thank you. I just checked out both those sites and they have exactly what I need. They have basswood triangle stock 1/2", which I think would be plenty wide enough for the corners. After doing some thinking 1" tri-stock (which apparently isn't available) would be way to wide for the corners. Then I thought about 3/4" but after measuring that up to my box would still be too wide.

So IMO 1/2" would be perfect. And both of them carry it. I will have to find available funds on my VISA as neither takes AMEX. Does anyone know of a supplier that carries basswood tri and accepts AMEX?

Casters installed and tested on the kitchen floor. Rolls beautifully and handle works great.

Now all you need is an outboard motor in case the creek rises.

LOL!

I picked mine up once and the handle came up but the rest just tipped over. Decided as I was picking piles of stuff up in the grass that it was time to review my needs vs. what was being carried. Now I have a box that stays in the car for spares/repairs and a true "flight box" for glow planes.

For gas planes: a padded glove, a gallon can with a hand pump attached on one side and a pair of pliers, a long shank phillips , a long shank flat-blade screwdriver and a crying towel on the other. Sometimes a seperate gallon of smoke oil with an attached push-pump. That's it. The glow flight box stays in the car, too (in case I need the tach., ESV, etc.)

No unfortunately not yet. DELAY [:@] Waiting for my order of triangle basswood stock to arrive to reinforce the corners as you suggested. Decided to go with 1/2", that should be enough shouldnt it? If it isn't I also ordered some 3/4"

Went back to work (if you can really call it WORK - too fun to be work) on my Tower Trainer 40. I am covering the wing right at this moment while I wait for the tri-stock to come.

By-the-way; do you know where I can order an ELECTRIC flight box where they take AMEX? The box has to be PREBUILT (don't wanna go thru this again).

Til later, expecting the order any day now so keep posted>

Those little wheels may work well on a solid floor, but it'll be interesting to hear how you fare when the box is heavy and the ground is bumpy and soft.

Try [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJBU2&P=0]this[/link] one. (Prebuilt)

Or [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJBU0&P=0]this[/link] one. (Requires screwing on handle and battery cover)
I had a field box with two casters on the front as you have and a set of wheels from an old skateboard on the back. I towed it around on a grass field for a few years until I needed a bigger one. It worked great.
Sadly they don't take AMEX but they do take Paypal. If you don't have a Paypal account go to PayPal .com and sign up. Its free and I think you can set it to take the money you spend out of your AMEX card. PM me and I can help set it up if you want to.

Yes I checked that one out and I do want it but for two things: 1)isn't that one a kit and have to build AGAIN another box which I am in no hurry to do another and 2) No cradles which isn't absolutely necessary so I can forgo that but I still think it has to be built.

I don't know maybe it won't be so bad building another. But then again it was very complicated to set this one up. But still again there is less to set up for electric planes.

But yet again it does not have to be electric version does it really. I can get a glow field box (small one though I don't want a big one for the electrics. That's why I want a separate one for the electric, so I don't have to lug the huge heavy one around to fly the electrics which needs less equipment to fly). But then what would I put in the fuel compartment?

With my Tower Trainer completed I finally got around to installing two sets of external terminals for my starter and charger, tested 'em and they work great. Thank you all again for the suggestion.

The first coat of stain was applied last night and I will be doing the second coat tonight. Then I gotta reinstall all the components, hope to post pics of the finished box tomorrow

Til then, bye 4 now!!!
