Hi ,I need some feedback on these two planes i am considering for a newbie . The first is the hobbyzone super cub, the second is 4 CH Super J-3 Cub Radio Remote Control Electric RC Airplane RTF at bannanhobby.com.both are about the same? but would like to get anyone feedback thanks gomez
HI Everone, Just want to say thanks for all the help. I just bought a plane piper cub j-3 with extra prop and battery for $60. I figured i was going to crash it so the price was right. Ive been waiting for the wind to calm down to try it. The most i got to do was taxi it around to see how it handles... looks like i will be hand launching it. I want to test the batterys so i can recharge them so it worked out good.....well wish me luck....heres a pix of it in one peice...hope it stays that way
thanks all

Instructor and trainer plane are always the best choice, but a lot of folks here forget that it is not always practical for some newcomers. If you are trying to learn on your own, the Super Cub is going to be your best bet. Its the easiest to fly and the cheapest to repair and keep flying. So many people wouldn't be "pushing" them if they were not a good choice.

Radian glider. its foam, its slow, its powered, and it is very predicatable. It is a pretty nice powerd glider but it would lend itself quite well to training.
Still I would recomend a traditional trainer, gas or electric, and an instructor. But if going it alone is your only option then a foam /repairable electric glider is a good option. Reports on this glider have been quite positive so far.
it is the trainer glider of choice in some glider clubs

Alot of people have the HZ Supercub, I wish I had bought one for my first plane.
Banana Hobby...I hear alot of horror stories concerning them. I'd avoid those guys until the get
their crap together.

I know everyone has their favorite begginer plane, and its usually the one they learned on. But in my case, I teach kids and adults to fly Rc planes thru a ministry I started at my church. I've tried many different so called "begginer" planes in the course of this ministry. As far as electrics go, I have found the Super Cub is the easiest to fly, easiest to teach with, easiest to repair, and most inexpensive to keep flying. We have four of them at church plus two of my own. I have even converted one of them over to a Futaba radio system and use a trainer box with it. One of them has been broken in half four times, wing broken in half twice, fire wall ripped off twice, and it is still flying with all the original foam. Doesn't look too pretty, probably has two or three ounces of glue and tape holding it together, but it still flies great! We use other planes in our ministry also, but if I had to use just one plane, the Super Cub would be it.

For the price the Super Cub is hard to beat, and yes for a trainer it is easier to fly, not the easiest ?? hmmm...disagree, I flew this puppie so with countless crashes and ooodles of tape and flew well over 200 fligthts, its a winner in my book, nope were not pushing this one, its simply the one out there...finally went into amazing Night Flights, what a ship...<>..BEST ..<>..
Super Cub, Night Flights
Stryker B
Parkzone Trojan, aileron winner, near trainer handling..
Thunderbat, pusher jet, flew well for me...
Parkzone Radian Sport Glider, trust me near competitive ship, blows the RTF competition into the dirt, floats forever, wow..<>..

The above is much cheap, much bigger, easier to upgrade ( see the upgrade videos) , easier to repair ( see the videos ), can accept bigger power systems, flies well in winds, and keeps your interest long after the SuperCub has turned into a pile of debris. It is sold by various vendors.

I went from a two channel HOB Cub {a lot of fun} to a Sr.Telemaster then to a 40 size Up-Roar. Our club trainer was crashed and I used what ever was on hand. A good trainer would have been better but I finally got it figured out. I built the Sr. Master for the club as there new trainer and it worked out OK, three of us learned on that plane before it was destroyed by a seasoned pilot.
