How to know where we posted?

Hello everyone,
I have spent many hours to find my way around this RC Universe since I registered a few days ago.
I managed to read postings, handle the pictures viewing, I even posted three pictures.
I also exchanged PM with a couple of members.
I am now looking for the indication(s) that show if we have posted in a forum or specific part of a forum and in which thread we may have made a posting.
Also as we browse around what is telling us if a thread contains some pictures.
I have seen this "my forum" pages and do not understand its purpose else than perhaps to limit the access to RC Universe.
I regret that I could not find any help pages covering these subjects.
I found out that replying to a PM the original text has to be copied and pasted above the reply we are writing otherwise the original text is not there.
If anyone could help via this posting (I hope it works, this is my first trial at opening a thread) it would be greatly appreciated.
After that many hours of research this is the only way I think I may get some help.
Again thanks for any response.

If you have cookies enabled the threads you have not viewed with be darker and high lighted
Pictures and diagrams are denoted by a paper clip to the left of the title
Have patience and continue to enjoy the site, we all went through this at one time

That is another detail useful to know but it is not what I was mainly asking. That highligting tells me if I have ever read something in that thread as I browse around but what tells me as I see the subject of a thread if I have ever posted in that thread? and perhaps how many postings I have posted. I also notice right now that I selected a color to distinguish my text in yours but I do not see that color as I am typing so as I read text already typed it is not evident to me what I inserted where. I have to watch for these little brackets like this one -> [].

I will look for that but have not noticed it yet. I did not know what to look for.

It would not be necessary to go through all this as you say if the help was there in a sticky thread or somewhere easy to find.

I have spent hours of searching and I read those FAQ many times but what I am asking for is not covered in the FAQ. If it was I would not be asking.
Also you are not answering my questions. That would take just a few lines.
Thanks anyway and all the best to you . . .

"My Forums" just lets you make a streamlined list of the subjects you are interested in. There are a ton of forums here that I would never go to, so "My Forums" lets me avoid scrolling through boats and monster trucks.
Folks here are really helpful. You should be able to get any help that you need.
Good luck

If you go to your member profile, there is a section for "Recent Posts" or some such. This will let you find threads that you have participated in recently.

Thank you very much.
I have no doubts about the friendliness of people here.
It is the software used that I do not find friendly as it does not appear to me to be easy to learn to use it.
I am also suspecting that what I am looking for is not part of this software. I am not receiving specific procedures. Like what you wrote about going to my profile.
I do not see anywhere a button, and icon, a tab that says "profile" or "your profile" or any hint along that line.
I suddenly remembered that perhaps it is in my account so I went there and found my profile (that is luck, not logic). Still I cannot find in there what you suggested about the last few postings. That is not what I am expecting anyway.
Ken sent me to the FAQ which does not cover my questions. I do not know how to write my questions better than I did. I am quite sure Ken understood what I am looking for.
I came to RC Universe having been told that there is a forum specifically for the build of the Great Planes Super Skybolt. I searched for it but did not find it. A search for Skybolt brought back mainly fellows at random talking about ARFs, not building.
I also did not find how to reverse the listing in the threads. I do not wish to scroll through dozens of postings to get to the recent ones.
Registering I also felt that perhaps I could help some fellows who are having problems.
Thanks again for your response.

Just click on your name in the top left corner of one of your posts, and it will take you to your profile page.
Also, when you are looking at the list of posts, there is always a column on the right for "Last Post". Click on the arrow next to the poster's name, and it takes you to the end of the thread.
It's funny, I have been reading this board for over two years, and I have never seen anyone ask these questions. I have alwaus found this board to be very intuitive. We must just think differently.
There's a lot of good stuff here. You'll get the hang of it.
Good luck

this is the link with your profile page, and part way down on the left is a list of the last 10 most recent posts you have made. To the right of that is a small box with 2 ??'s in it, you can input the number of posts to list there to increase the number or decrease the number.
Keep hanging on, you'll get used to it. [8D]

You can find threads that you have posted in by going to the upper right side of the screen and clicking "search" from the gold menu bar. When the search window opens, you can use the "search by author" bar and type in your user name. This will bring up all threads you have posted in with the most recent first. If cookies are enabled, it will also show a Yellow highlighted circle to let you know there has been a new post on this thread since the last time you viewed it.
To go to your profile, you can also click on "my models" from the blue menu bar at the very top of the screen. From your profile, you can select which forums you want or don't want to show up when you click on "my forums" . For instance, I have no interest at this time in boats, rockets, tanks, etc. so I don't want these forums showing up in "my forums". If for some reason I do want to see a forum that I have not selected, I click on "discussion forums" which brings up all of the forums. Hope this helps, just keep asking questions and check the thread periodically and someone will eventually come up with the answer you need!

I have a lot of threads that I monitor because of being a moderator here and this is the system that I use to keep track of what I've read, not read, posted to, or not posted to. To be totally honest with you I very rarely even go into the forum lists that show all of the threads in a forum. With this system I don't need to as I will get notified whenever a new post is made in a forum in which I have subscribed to.
Hope this helps

On my screen there is a yellow bar with the far right heading of SETTINGS. Once in there I scroll down my Profile until I see the blue text about MY FORUMS. You can check boxes next to the Forums you want displayed whenever you log on and select MY FORUMS. If you don't do this each time you log on all Forums will be displayed. Its merely a tool that permits you to be present only forums that you predetermined to be of interest to you.
I also like the BB software that provides you a link to "View new Posts" or "View your Posts" but not all sites have these or if they do; clicking View New Posts displays new posts in every section on the site and not just the ones on Forums that interest me.
Considering the volume on this site I'm amazed at just how well it does,
Clay

ZOR, you als stated "I found out that replying to a PM the original text has to be copied and pasted above the reply we are writing otherwise the original text is not there. " Easier than copy/paste is clicking the "quote original" button.

Hello All,
I am still in my study course of how to use this forum.
I clicked on a button that says "post reply".
I could not find a button that would evidently say "new post"
I am not intending in this post to reply to anyone.
No time at this moment.
I simply wish to express the following.
I am grateful to all who have posted to help me but I do not have time at this very momnet to reply to these kind individuals. I will hopefully later today or tomorrow.
One thing I wish to mention . . .
I received an email from John _ _ _ _ reproduced here . . . . .
TECHNICAL SUPPORT RESPONSE TO TICKET 16200:

When you first enter the forums, there is a link titled "Subscribed Thread Activity". Clicking on that link will present you with a page that shows all of your subscribed threads and the forum they are posted in.

If you have any further issues, please use the link in the forums or the general help area for the quickest response. If you have a question about this response, just reply to the email.

I do not think I am terribly stupid but no matter how much I searched, I do not see such a link when the first page of RC Universe comes up.
I then point to "forum" and from the drop down menu I click "airplanes" and I still cannot find such a link.
I am beginning to think that PERHAPS the software used by this forum is different depending on the operating system we have and thus present the pages differently. I certainly cannot find such a link.
I am using XP pro as an operating system on a DELL professional computer running an Intel CPU at 3 (three) gigahertz. Have 1 (one) gigabytes of RAM and half a giga on the ATI monitor card.
I do not see why or understand that I would see things on my monitor differently than others.
I did not come to RC Universe to be a pest. (please see "mclina" below) I was looking for a forum or thread in which we could discuss the Super Skybolt. I still have not found one. I was referred to a link which is a "build log" which is not a discussion thread. I had seen that thread and had already read that thread before in its entirety while searching for a discussion thread before I was presented with the link.
I try to do my homeworks before disturbing people.
Concerning mclina posting . . .

That certainly explains why so many readers never register to become participants either to seek knowledge or to help others. I was also thinking of helping fellows with a 50 plus years experience of building and flying models.
Please, anyone, just let me know your true feelings. If it is funny, unusual and strange to ask how to maneuver in this forum, I certainly can spend my leisure time designing model airplanes and building them.
This posting is NOT intended to annoy anyone. I am the one who is experiencing frustration.
It should not take any time to learn our way around the forum. All the supplied info by many in the last few days could easily be condensed in a section of the FAQ or an obvious location "how to use the forum". The present FAQ have more to do with business deals than with the hobby.
Best regards to Admin, participants and readers.

Zor,
When you're at ALL FORUMS you'll note the yellow bar I referred to earlier. Then below it is usually a couple of advertisements in a pair of windows then just below that is a bordered frame with the links the Support folks are referring to.
Since I've never SUBSCRIBED to a thread I've never tried those before.
Perhaps I should try it?
Regards,
Clay

I use XP Pro, Internet Explorer 7, typical Dell system in a corporate office. My computer is probably very much like yours. My home computer is similar, but not Dell. RCU looks the same at home or at work.
I'm no expert on navigation inside RCU. I had to look for it, but I did find the link to see subscribed threads. Picture below.
I haven't determined exactly what you are looking for related to the Skybolt. If you searched for "Skybolt," and did not find the type of thread you are looking for, you might need to start one to see if it generates the discussion you are looking for.
Go to the Kit building forum
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/forumid_121/tt.htm
Click "New Post" and explain what kind of discussion you'd like to have.
Also, once in the kit building forum, youu can search that forum for "Skybolt" if you want.

I do not know what you imply with

but _ _ _ _ EditingThe original posting did not have icons (faces) It had keyboard characters meaningless to me else than appearing sarcastic.
Please do not be concerned.
I will not get a lot of attention from here on.
I wish to express my gratefulness to all those that made an effort to assist me.
I certainly do not wish any more attention than anyone else.
I regret that the two main reasons for me to register with RC Universe seem to have been misguided.
1- Apparently there is no forum discussing the Super Skybolt in terms of its flying characteristics, construction problems and their solutions, as well as general interest in this particular model.
2- I was hoping to be welcome as a long time modeler and be available to help newcomers to the hobby. Those that spend many leisure hours in building models, often changing the design or disigning their own model, building them and flying them.
I regret that some postings were a bit sarcastic.
I also regret that this forum is operating using an unfriedly software the way I see it.
The nice features I have been looking for are just not in this software as I may judge by the nice answers from those being kind to respond.
Again, do not be concerned, I shall assure that I am not taking attention away from you JustErik or from anyone else.
No one can carry a judgment on a site without finding out facts and the nature of the thing.
It is necessry to come in to find that.
I am glad that apparently most participants in RC Universe seem happy about how it functions.
I can only conclude that I am spoiled.
Wishing all the enjoyment of this most fascinatng hobby of actually flying models that you have dsigned or at least put together piece by piece from a kit.
For me this is a hobby not just a leisure activity of flying a nearly all built model from a manufacturer.

On the top of each forum, upper right, there are 3 yellow (on mine anyway) slots. One is named "Filter". It starts with "Show all posts" but by clicking the down bar, the bottom option is "Show all posts I contributed to."
So on the bottom and sometimes top of any forum, you can jump to any forum, then click on "Show all posts I contributed to." From there, read your postings.
Edited to add: You can also set up a "My Forums" and eliminate all those items you might not care for. Saves me much time.
Best I can do to help you out.

Hossfly,
I regret having to tell you that your directives are one more misleading information.
All the misleading information I have received is another example that users of RC Universe do not know well the software they are working with and how to handle it.
I do not see anything like you are describing.
I wish to thank you however for your concern and your posting.
It is a nice gesture on your part but the information is simply not there.
I sure hope that people in this forum know their model airplanes better than they know the software they are using.
This thread, which I initiated, is "out of topic" with model airplanes and I suggest this conversation should end as it is leading nowhere.
I will join the multitude of guests. I am convinced that many would like to participate as active forum members if the system was much more friendly to use. It possibly could be if there was a location completely explaining accurately "how to maneuver" in this forum.
The FAQ are useless for that purpose although it was referred to me while it has nothing about what I was looking for.
I have pity for Ken who has to use multitude of email to manage his function as a moderator.
That is a shame when things could be much more simple (the KISS principle).
With my best regards to all readers. I am with you gals and guys.
