I wanted to use up some old 2 wire switches so I just plugged the battery into an extra servo slot, and put the bind plug in where the battery/bind connector is. Did the binding, turned off the switch removed the bind plug and reconnected the battery and was good to go. Took about 2 mins. to do. You only need the 3 wire switch if you want to bind through the switch hardness. Try it, it will work and get you by until your switch arrives.
That's the way I do it, and about every other guy I know that has converted existing planes over from 72MHz to Spektrum 2.4GHz systems. No need to replace the existing switches in you planes. If you have an electric plane (using an ESC with BEC to power the RX), you just do it this way as well, since you don't have a switch harness or an RX batt pack.

Now that I re-read his posting, and that looks like a pretty good idea. I too have a few spare 2 wire switches lying around. Poof.. instant bind, just like a Futaba... AMEN!! And there goes the trade off!

So can you bind by using the charge port on the outside of the plane?

You must have a 3-wire charge port, and unless you buy the JR or Spektrum wire harness, it is probably not 3-wire. The bind plug shorts the signal and ground pins on the batt/bind input to the receiver. Most wiring harnesses only have the power and ground wires going to the receiver for power, they omit the signal wire.

Those Spektrums sound like a pain in the bottom.
I've had 0 complaints with mine so far...best radio I've owned, by any standard you wish to apply to it.

Of course, radios are about as subjective as props imo. Ask 10 guys at the field "What's the best radio", and you'll get 11 different answers (because one guy's flying 2 radios that day). Bottom line...if your radio is reliable, and it makes sense to you, then it's the 'right radio".

Actually, the radio is bad too (well, not all of 'em). See recall notice on Horizon's website...

The radio is not bad, a part of the radio has a problem that Spektrum has owned up to and is fixing. I seem to recall problems in other radio systems (won't mention the name, but it's not Spektrum) that they refused to acknowledge leaving it up to the owners to get fixed. This is the second time that Spektrum has owned up to a problem and immediately offered a fix. That's pretty heads-up to me!

I have a DX-7 and I think it is a great tx. I use all 3 wire charging jacks on most of my planes. I think they are EMSsells for about 15.00. Was going to include a picture but the camera is in wife's card and she has gone to work. Hurray!!! I get to work on some planes.

Howdee, Irish.

Yeah, I have my DX7, which I have had 0.. that's zero.. problems with. And, if it wasn't for the documentation issues (which have been acknowledged by Horizon Support as valid, with intentions to provide updates) the DX6i is also a fine radio. I've not flown with it yet, but that will happen as soon as the weather improves (13 inches on my car at 6:00 am today, and it just started to snow again, looking for about 3 more inches this morning before it's all over.

Wphew.. I gave you an opinion, recommendation, AND a weather report, all in one breath! Wow, am I good.. ha.. oops.

I sent their support people an Email about the issues that I had with the binding plug. They kept coming back to using the bind port on the receiver, however, their picture pointed to the third wire on the switch, never really describing the "bind port" on the RX. They need to make some documentation improvements, that's for sure, but with the help from good people, especially here on RCU, I figured it out and was successful in binding the pair. I sent them a reply Email stating what shortcomings were in the manual and they acknowledged it and said they would do what they could.

Hey, at least they acknowledge the issues. Whether or not they actually do something about it is another thing.

Aaaaanyway... pan-cookies for breakfast (that's what a friend used to call pancakes) with real maple syrup and butter, with some thick cut smoked bacon. I eat well when I'm home.. ha..

I'm going to do what I can with the Ultrafly Furious. Can't do much until the rest of the components come in. I ordered a new motor/esc and some foam-safe CA. I thought I had some, but at last check, the bottle was solid as a rock.. hardened CA.. so I don't have any.

we had an indoor fly yesterday and it looked like overkill A Vapor controlled by a DX-7 I was going to send some pictures of it hovering but the lights in the building blocked out the tiny vapor. Hot sauage, crispy hashbrowns, poached egg and coffee. Fighting a terrible cold. Probably ought to get some jack daniels, I'll still feel bad but I won't care.. Yea,,,,, listen to me a non-drinker, probably smell the cap and it would be lights out.

The only port you can bind a 7000 on is the BATT/BIND port, you can NOT bind by plugging into a servo port with the bind plug. You CAN connect the battery to any port but not the bind plug.

But, and I have not done it yet, I believe you can bind through your charging plug, if it runs through to the bind/charge terminal and it's a three wire plug.

Right now I have a spare 6 inch lead on each of my receivers bind plugs, so I don't have to pull the receiver to rebind. I need to try it through the charging plug on my next plane.
