A few of the guys were talking about the DX6i recall at last week's club meeting. The word is that three weeks is about the average turnaround time right now. Omaha is pretty close to Champaign, IL however, so it could be four weeks if you're on either coast (accounting for longer ship times).

Well don't get too hopeful on four weeks, the CPSC just issued a recall for these. I was even considering this radio at the show in Toledo this weekend. No way now. What a joke for a company that seems to have sold a lot of radios. I'll certainly never purchase one of their products now!

15K is a bunch of radios to replace. If this company survives this huge recall it will be a miracle.

Well they made my decision for me....Futaba it is.

Read my posting in the other thread. This is over-reaction on Flyboy's part. I would think that he was previously influenced by some other radio system and was deterred by this recall notice. What was described in the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) would happen with any radio that encounters a problem while in flight, regardless of the manufacturer.

Spektrum is fixing the problem. Period. This sort of over-reaction serves no purpose.

And in response to the OP, it took mine 4 weeks or so. However, it was NOT a recall repair, even though they apparently treated it as such! (One bad gimbal, drop damage, they replaced both gimbals no charge, not even shipping!) Before you think they tested it and it was bad, it got dropped AFTER I ran the test required by the recall notice. Mine was ok according to the published test.

See my Kudos to Horizon for more detail. As for my trust of Spektrum, Rarely have I ever been treated so well by customer service! i will fly Spektrum for as long as they make radios, PERIOD!

No, they are not. At least not for mine. I have a qualifying DX6i TX and sent in my recall request in April. I got an automated response immediately,...

<font face="Calibri, Verdana, Helvetica, Arial"><span style="font-size:11pt">Chris, what gives. It&rsquo;s been another 2 weeks and still no call tag.

I bought this transmitter and model airplane for my boys for Christmas last year. It has never worked properly since day one. Since I am a free-flighter and this was our first attempt at RC, we thought the issue was ours. We tried very hard, reading the manual several times, asking for help from everyone we came across to get this plane to work. We even got 2 replacement airplanes from the store thinking the problem was in the receiver. At this point my kids were totally frustrated with RC airplanes (this sucks was the phrase used) and who can blame them. This hobby has only meant frustration and disappointment for them.

When we found out about the recall and that our transmitter was involved we were both relieved and perturbed. We wasted months trying to fix something that wasn&rsquo;t broken or our fault. It was yours. Now I can&rsquo;t even get any help from you. Please email me ASAP and get the call tag out immediately. I will be posting on every RC forum I can find in the mean time sharing my very unsatisfactory experience with Spektrum transmitters.

I sent mine in around the end of March. It took about a week and a half to get the call tag, and about 3 weeks to get the radio back. They also sent me a free 6100 rx and a letter apologizing for the inconvenience.</p>

It was an inconvenience for sure, since all of my aircraft fly with this Tx, but their cust svc was beyond good, I will definitely continue to be a customer.</p>

Alan, i'm sorry you and your kids had so much trouble, but don't let that deter you from staying with a great and rewarding hobby. Horizon has beyond excellent customer service in 99% of the cases, I still highly recommend their products. </p>

Even if you don't agree with me about Horizon and Spektrum products, don't give up on flying altogether. It certainly doesn't 'suck'.</p>

Thanks for the reply Speedy. I just got an electronic call tag from Chris this morning after my last letter. I will ship it out tomorrow.

Like I said, I'm a free flight guy. I prefer stick &amp; tissue, bigrubber bands and thermals to RC, but I wanted to get my kids involved in the hobby and thought RC might get their feet in the door. Sad to say this experience soured them badly. I can't tell you how many attempts we made to get a plane flying, how many trips to the hobby shop, how many hours reading the manual and online to try and figure out why I couldn't get the throttle below 50% (every try and land a plane with 50% throttle?). I'm afraid they're done. I will still be twisting rubber bands though...

Here's the link to the recall through Health Canada Consumer ProductRecalls209.217.71.106/PR/recall-retrait-e.jsp.
