Throttle means altitude, so he needs to come in slow and steady and bring the throttle down slowly and let the plane settle to the ground

This is a great thread! Go fly that BadBoy already!! I'm pulling for you Kennel! I did the same thing when I first learned and no matter the outcome of the maiden you'll always have a great memory to look back on.
Good Luck!!

Kennel I think your choice to use ailerons is a good one. At the slower speeds you will be flying at initally. The left turning tendancies of the engine will not be as powerful. As farr301 mentioed it is acutlly easier to seprate your hands and use your left only for power then use the right for all controls. I learned this way and it seems to work for alot of people as well. I sitll fly my trainer from time to time and I use the rudder alot just cause I like to put it into spins and fowards slips on approach. Plus the rudder is very useful when your start getting more confident in your landings and start to learn cross wind landings. I won't wander off into that topic as I will end up writing to much like always!

The left turning tendancy is not from the engine, ie: low power less torque, but from the propeller. The greater the angle of attack (low speed) the greater the left turning tendancy. For a full explanation google "P-Factor". That being said do not totally discount rudder as some trainers have very ineffective roll control at low speeds, if however you find it rolls well at these speeds than I agree that aileron will be a little better to start. Just remember the best way to recover a trainer is throttle back release the controls then ease in elevator to pull out from the ensuing dive, add power as the nose comes back above level. Best of luck

Thanks for the lesson P-factor.
I am fully aware of what it means along with all the other reasons planes don't always like to turn right. I just didn't figure this was the forum to break down a bunch of aerodynamic jargon when it really does not matter. That is why I mentioned earlier in the thread about having to use the rudder during right turns more than left. I do agree some trainers have some bad tendancies at slow speeds but I have found that it is not much of a problem. It really only becomes an issue when you are trying to wrestle down a trainer in the wind. In that case the rudder is always your friend.
I think the use of rudder is more intuitive than most people think. We learn very quickly as full scale and RC pilots what happen if you do not use the rudder during the roll out. You will be up and close with the left side of the runway in a hurry. We learn to counteract all four of the left turning tendancies without even realizing it!

My apologies for missing your prev. post (#118). Good brief rundown, however I still believe we need to remember that most "newbies" have no full scale training. With this in mind we need to emphisize that reasonably slower is easier, too slow is catastophic, esp. when using just ailerons. I know you, and most of us know this, however newbies tend to take some advice as gospel (esp. from a professional pilot), and with no prev. training might have misunderstood your post, and it is for those that I tried to clarify using I thought very little jargon, and leaving it up to them to research further.

P.S the cfi doesn't stand for "can't fly inverted"

On a trainer the rudder does cause the aircraft to roll as well as yaw. I think that is the one you were looking for.
It is so bad that you have to use just as much opposite aileron as you do rudder just to keep the wings level during a turn.
A good place to start is to use the rudder on the ground, then use ailerons and elevator for turns in the air. This will be enough till you get the orientation thing down, and get some simple aerobatics under your belt. (Loops and rolls.) I would start with figure 8's where you turn right on your right side and left on your left side. Only problem with these turns is that you will not be lining up with the runway. After you get used to this then switch to right turns on the left side and left turns on the right side. After you get used to this start working the airplane over to line up with the runway as the nose passes by the ends of the runway, (high overhead ofcourse).
After you get used to these exercises you may want to start working in rudder, and then try rudder turns keeping the wings level.

Good luck to you Paul. Flying IS fun. I started last summer, with an instructor. Didn't have alot of success though, mostly watched others flying and only got in about half a dozen flights at the field - never got my "wings". This year I'm going it alone and spending way more time repairing than flying. 4 planes crashed, 1 rebuilt and crashed again. But I'll say it again - flying IS fun.

GaryHarris: You are baiting me.....

jrcaster: You are talking about simple areobatics and I just want to get the damn thing up in the air!

Flexnbeef: ....but it is kinda fun isn't it! Not as much fun as flying then rebuilding, but a lot of enthusiasm here!

Too windy this morning and I won't be home tonite.... Geeze, I wonder if I have set a record for longevity of an undamaged trainer????

Thanks all,

I hate to tell you this but if you spent as much time flying this plane as you have been talking about flying it, you'd be an expert by now!
Now get out there and fly it! We're tired of waiting.

If you are scared of the wind, you will never fly
. I stop flying when the vets who have been flying longer than I have been here on this earth(18 yrs ) say it's too windy, THEN it's too windy. Just go out and fly, it's just a plane

"Farm Tower, Alpha One ready for departure"
"Alpha One, proceed to Rwy 36R and hold"
"Alpha one, at 36R"
"Alpha one, Barometer 30.06, winds 0 at 36 say intentions"
"Farm Tower, Alpha one, three left hand circuits in the pattern, then full stop."
"Alpha One, Farm Tower, approved, clear for take-off, no traffic in the pattern."
Alpha One approved, rolling"
(what seems like 20 lifetimes pass)
"Farm Tower, Alpha One, left downwind for 36R, full stop"
"er, Alpha One, it looks like you are lined up for 36L"
"Tower, I just want to get this down"
"Alpha One, any runway approved"
Tower, Dammit, I didn't say a runway!!!"
"Alpha One, say status...."
"Alpha One, Farm Tower....."
"Tower, Alpha One"
"Say status..."

I think this whole airplane story is a cover up and he's a big time drug dealer. Looks like he harvested a wide row of "poppy seeds" ready for market and tells the feds he just wanted to make a runway for his rc trainer he has on order!

911 "What's your emergency?"
"Yes, This is Farm Tower. We need all roads closed off with in a 30 mile radius so kennelmaster can make his maiden flight with his rc trainer. We will probably need all the emergency vehicles you can send out if the wind is over 2 mph.
