A25 year old scratch built (RCM plans) Kaos awoke again yesterday! A tad out of trim (alot) but worked it out. Second flight much better; hopefully will get a few more in before Rusty's event.Love the sound of that2 stroke swinging an 11X7 (APC though, not a Zinger).

Chicago Classic Pattern Championships...May 29,2010!
Practice and planes to "borrow"...
Practice- The Fox Valley Aero Club field will be open for practice beginning @ 9:00 Friday May 28th. Dave Guerin and I will be on hand for registration and any assistance you may require. The field will also be available Sunday and Monday "open" flying for interested pilots.
Planes to "borrow"- I am not surprised, but to this point I have had no official requests to borrow a model from my fleet. Therefore, I am reducing the models that will be available to the following:
Calypso "Replica"- This Hanno Prettner designed 1983 FAI World Champion is finished virtually identically to the original color scheme and graphics. The model is powered by the Super Tigre S-61 with macs pipe and has retracts.
Blue Angel "Replica"- This Dave Gurein Built 1973 FAI World Champion is truly a work of art. It was built from the Wega-Sunshine kit and is powered by a YS .61 with an old school Hatori muffler.
All models feature Futaba electronics, well tuned motors and are limited by the abilities of the pilot. No cost, no fees to "borrow"...just a smile!

Practice and planes to ''borrow''...
Practice- The Fox Valley Aero Club field will be open for practice beginning @ 9:00 Friday May 28th. Dave Guerin and I will be on hand for registration and any assistance you may require. The field will also be available Sunday and Monday ''open'' flying for interested pilots.
Planes to ''borrow''- I am not surprised, but to this point I have had no official requests to borrow a model from my fleet. Therefore, I am reducing the models that will be available to the following:
World Models Intruder- This ''stock'' version has totally trick electronics, pushrod clevis set-up and is trimmed to perfection. The machine is powered by an OS FX .61 with Mac's tuned exhaust system. The Futaba 14MZ transmitter will allow you to personalize a custom set-up for you...if you show up on Friday to make the changes! This model can be competitive at all levels of SPA/BPA... it does NOT have unlimited vertical.
Calypso ''Replica''- This Hanno Prettner designed 1983 FAI World Champion is finished virtually identically to the original color scheme and graphics. The model is powered by the Super Tigre S-61 with macs pipe and has retracts.
Blue Angel ''Replica''- This Dave Gurein Built 1973 FAI World Champion is truly a work of art. It was built from the Wega-Sunshine kit and is powered by a YS .61 with an old school Hatori muffler.

You can put me down for one of the loaners. While I had good intentions of getting something built for your event, time and finances exhausted that option. I'll get with you at one of the upcoming club meetings to discuss which of your offerings would be best suited for me. I plan to fly either novice or sportsman class.
Also, as a JR user, will my hands experience uncontrollable burning or break out in a rash from holding a Futaba radio?

Chicago Classic Pattern Championships, May 29!!!
The event is almost less than a month away. Some of my projects are not yet completed and it is time to really get focused. The event would not be possible without the support of the Fox Valley Aero Club and my mentor Dave Guerin.
The photo is of Dave and his newly completed World Engines Calypso "Sport" powered by an old school ST .61 Blue Head. The photos show the first flight without the cowl...from last weeks test flights. Dave tells me the model has potential just really needs more horsepower. Dave is bringing the model to Chicago.

Hello Rusty.
Last night we finished up our "Team Entry".
I think JD's neighbors were stoked when we fired it up around 10:30 pm!
I think I will be flying the Advanced schedule. I hope others will too.
I will ask Mr. Danhakl which class he wants to fly.
Our plan is to roll in that Friday afternoon.
cheers,
George

Hi guys,
My model is ready to go, just awaiting a few little details.
What local hotels are recommended by those in the know? I intend to arrive on Thurs night so as to fresh for Practice Day.
Thanks,
Chris...

Chicago Classic Pattern Championships...Blue Angel and Master Jason!!
Chicago Classic Pattern Championships...it is getting really close. The "for adult use only" airplanes are getting prepared as well as personal phone caalls to check-in with the competitors traveling from far, far away. Motel suggestions...I suggest you "Map Quest" the flying field and you will get about (10) fine choices.
Blue Angel and the Yak in the back ground...oh yah...Gernot's E-TOC winning Yak is in the house, MY house! The Blue ANgel is currently on the bench getting fitted with the doo dahs to make it fly.
Master Jason- Jason may very well be the most patient of the "Superstar's of R/C aerobatics"...the photo below is with my oldest son Chip at E-Fest a few years ago. Chip asks me if the guy with the "funny whiskers" is coming to fly with us.

Chicago Classic Pattern Championships...10 days away!!
If this does provide the era in which we are all about...I can't help ya!
Special Raffle items- As an added bonus a number of our special vendors have graciously supplied items to be raffled to all registered pilots, judges and contest management (please note that if in the unlikely event my name is drawn the item will be returned and another ticket will be drawn). The list of confirmed (the stuff is in my hands) providers include:
Great Planes Manufacturing
Futaba of America
The Classic Pattern Trader

Awesome Rusty!
I have now flown a sequence of recognizable maneuvers, in order, just today...Not important to anyone probably, but huge to me!
See you guys on Friday am.

Chris,
I'm in the same boat. Haven't yet flown the full sequence. Been trying to practice the individual maneuvers. If it's not raining tomorrow I plan to try the complete sequence. My son, Nick, and I are going to be flying mainly to support the contest rather than winning anything (other than having a shot at a door prize).

Chicago Classic Pattern Championships!
The event is all about fun, fun and fun!
Dave Guerin and I have worked on many events together. We expect the Friday practice session and Sunday practice session to be the most fun for the typical participants. The contest portion is important and fun in a different context. The contest will create a certain amount of anxiety, shattered nerves and therefore will make all the pilots better, more confident and competent because of the challenge.
Thank you in advance to all of the pilots and families who plan on attending!

I realize that this request may pose a few logistical challenges, but if you could move the contest down to Destin, Florida I'd be more than happy to attend!!
.
.
Besides, we wouldn't want any pictures of Rusty "Turncoat" Dose being released to the public now, would we? You didn't even bother to jump into a telephone booth to change sponsors . . .

Classic Pattern...in a box and portable!
Hey Rusty, can you have the "Chicago Classic Pattern Championships" format be portable in different cities?
Rusty- Yes, that is exactly what Dave and I like to create. We now have a template for the format SPA/BPA, contest flyer, scoring program, trophies, marketing thoughts...Dave and I will be the CDs at other locations that we want to visit (warm weather).
Additionally, we are more than happy to assist interested individuals to run their own event.
The photo from the E-TOC...The event sponsors, TNT landing Gear, go to great efforts to research and recruit the most qualified judges available and many of them, myself included are affiliated with an equipment manufacturer. This year they gave us shirts to wear and I had to carry my cozy orange fleece...
I do like the photo...my hair used to be red!
Attached photo is the Fox Valley Aero Club field.
