Rusty,
Question: Will you require AMA numbers on the airplane per the AMA rules? I am going to try to make it and fly in SPA Novice/Sportsman with my Kaos as well.

Chicago Classic Pattern Championships...rules information!
AMA numbers- The AMA numbers are supposed to be at least 1" tall and be displayed on the wing (pretty sure) and in order for the insurance to work you are also supposed to have the little ID tag with your name, address and AMA number on all the parts...
Minimum- Due to the "rental models" available, I am allowing painters tape with AMA numbers written with a Sharpie...

Rusty,
If I recall, at least pre 1977, the numbers could be on the fuse sideswith therecommendation they be precceded with the 'N".
Per the AMA website for pattern, currently it states:
4.7: Identification. All models shall be identified by the contestant’s AMA license number permanently affixed to the upper side of the right hand lifting surface or to each side of the fuselage or vertical stabilizer. The height of the numerals must be at least one (1) inch. Both stroke and width shall be such as to enable ready recognition.
4.7.1:
Borrowed or shared aircraft shall carry temporary identification, as shall repaired aircraft if deemed necessary by the Contest Director. Such identification shall consist of the AMA license number of the contestant operating the model affixed to or written on the model in any way which conforms to the standard set forth in 4.7. Temporary identification numbers may be affixed in any manner which will withstand the rigors of flight.

OK, Rusty. I will get some cut and added to the wing.
Chris, Nice Kaos! Is that the new one you were putting together at the crash pad?

I have an OS Wankel .30 and I'd like to use it to power a Tower Kaos .46. Will that engine provide enough power to the plane? What type of scews and other hardware do you recommend for mouning the engine mount to fire wall? My muffler does not have a nipple for pressure, do I need to pressurize the fuel tank like with a regular 2 stroke engine? If so what do I do and if not what do i do about vent line to fuel tank? ALso what Prop is best for this engine? Mabe a 10x6

Remote feed from JAS!
JAS- Great find! The Sig Zlin, complete with the foam wing with scale airfoil and round leading edge is a "builders" kit. My Sig Zlin kit was found on Buy-Bay for about $200 in the last (12) months. Maybe $100 bucks can snag it?
I know you are busy...May could be fun in Chicago.

Chicago Classic Pattern Championships...the awards!
The proof for the plaques just arrived from [email protected] (formerly Northeast Dynamics) and he did a great job of customizing an image! I sent him the Blue Angel photograph that Dave Guerin built for me and John did his magic. The cherry wood plaques have laser cut images for each SPA and BPA class and the Concours d'Elegance.
I am working on a flyer and would appreciate posting and sending to clubs, pilots and groups who may post the information and want to attend as a pilot or guest.

Chicago Classic Pattern Championships!!!
I have received a number of questions about "eligible" airplanes. Specifically, can I fly my Kougar, Kommander, Falcon 56 or Astro Hog?
Yes, yes, yes and yes!
The photo below shows the Dose Boy's with their Falcon 56 MK II, Sig Kommander and Dad's Champion. Each of these can be competitive in the SPA Novice class with some practice.
The picture was taken before an Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) volunteer picks them up (3/13/10) to travel to the EAA museum in Oshkosh, WI to be a part of a special exhibit for the next (10) months. Thanks to my pal Mike Mueller, the opportunity of a life time will begin today!

Rusty,
Thanks for supporting the EAA Museum with these models! I can tell you that they will be a prominent part of our new exhibit on model aviation entitled "Little Wings, Big Dreams, Sport Aviation in Minature". I have been part of the EAA staff team putting this together and it is going to be fantastic! I am so glad you were able to share these airplanes and ensure that classic pattern is well represented. Once the exhibit is complete (next weekend), I will post some pics of your airplanes from within the display.
Looking forward to bringing my Kaos to your event over Memorial Day weekend! Thanks again, Rusty.

Mike,
Now I'm going to have to ask you to call for me, unless we can get BB to go along (I was going to ask John, oh well). Thanks for the flight - here's the only good shot I got of your flight. I put another one on after you left but it was getting too dark so I only did a couple passes around the field. Sure is a sweet one to land!

John,
Baseball games...hmmmm...I wonder if my (2) boys know that they will be at the flying field rather than be participating with their soccer and T-ball teams.
Mike,
I am counting on you coming so I can fly the Phoenix 7...and of course catch up on stuff.
Andy,
As you know, "E" is welcome!
Below is a photo of my boys after an evening of practice at the local school yard. Seeing my boys pose by the airplane cracks me up. Chip Hyde taught my Chip how to pose before the finals of the 2005 NATS and Chip has taught Tom. The little "Fly Lite" can fly the old school, I mean really old school pattern sequence #2 from the Antique Pattern Association.

Chicago Classic Pattern Championships, May 29, 2010!!!
Update- I continue to receive e-mails and calls from pilots all over the country who will be attending the May 29th event.
Toledo 2010- Dave Guerin and I attended the Toledo Expo over the weekend to catch up with pals, work on the 2011 F3A world championships which will be held in Muncie the last couple weeks of July 2011 and talk about the Chicago Classic Pattern Championships. We are amazed at how many people are talking about classic pattern and pleased that many pilots with an open calendar from California, Oklahoma, Alabama, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Indiana, North Carolina...
Scoring- I am pleased to share that Chicagoland Scoring Legend Larry Larsen has volunteered to handle the scoring for the event. He is preparing the same system used at our AMA/FAI pattern events to handle the (2) SPA and (2) BPA classes including k-factors, normalizing the scores for each round and a custom (1) page score sheet for judging. Larry is the best!
Photo from Toledo- The very fuzzy photo (BlackBerry camera) below is from Toledo with (L-R) Mark Radcliff, Dave Guerin, Bill Cunningham, Steve Helms, Chris Lakin and Mike Harrison...a motley crew indeed!
Gernot Bruckman, Rusty and Rusty's new Yak!!! I was a judge for the ETOC again this year which is an incredibly challenging and exciting experience. I got to know Gernot at the 2007 ETOC and purchased his "Spark" and this year he let me buy his winning Yak. The Yak weighs 132 grams without the 250 mah 2C lipo and features fishing cable elevator/rudder pull-pull and (2) aileron servos. The Graupner servos are fed directly off of the 7.4 volt lipo...very speedy servos. The wing has an airfoil and is the inspiration for a Dalotel with retracts from Doxilla's plans for the Dalotel 30 size. Rusty's elf "Master Foamy" is creating a foam fuselage and wing for the project.

This is weird. On the forum page it says Rusty posted today. Inside, the last post is several weeks old.
What's up with that?
Andy
PS - Same thing on the Phoenix thread.

Chicago Classic Pattern Championships!!!
Eligible airplanes?
This event is encouraging all models be designed prior to 1989.
Great Planes Ultra Sport .60- ELIGIBLE, designed in 1987!
This is event is a "proof of concept" and therefore supposed to be fun...open to all models designed prior to 1989.
