The tail motor turns much faster with the spur gear than it would in DD form, alot faster. Without the spur gear gearing it down, the stock TM probably wouldnt have enough power to swing the rotor fast enough. Thats my opinion anyway...

I think the stock motor would actually turn the rotor "too fast" and let me state (before you jump to conclusions) if it could. The purpose of the spur gear would be not only to slow down the motor, but enable it to move the larger mass of the rotor. I agree the motor would likely not be strong enough to use DD without reducing rotor size by about 2/3. And then the RPM would be so high it probably wouldn't move enough air to be effective. But hey, I work for a structural engineer, not mechanical.

Does anybody know whether or not the direct drive tail rotor upgrade described here http://www.bladecprepair.com/man_tr_dd_conversion.html can be used in combination with the carbon fiber tail rotor displayed here http://www.redrockethobbies.com/Phot...=2#largerphoto

Perhaps there's an adapter or something, but I just bought the carbon fiber tail rotor and would hate it to have been a waste of money.

Thanks

The spur gear make the motor turn faster. It it was direct drive, the motor wound barely be turning to make the rotor go the same speed. The spur gear gears it down to like 8 to 1 judging by the size, I havn't actually counted the teeth...

You might be able to use it with a prop adapter if you drilled out the center hole. My personal feeling is probably not, it's pretty big for direct drive, but who knows.

Dennes--if we agreed on everything one of us would be unnecessary I may try it on my Pico to find out who's right, but I still think whoever's theory is correct it wouldn't work anyway.

Yeah right !!! $70.00 plus another $200.00 plus for the stuff needed to go with it !!! You could but a Rapture with the same amout of money you would have in your Blade CP... Not worth it in my opinion... Just buy a heli with a belt or a shaft.

Whats up guy's?

Well I went to to my LHS today and found a flyer for a helicopter fun fly that's only like 30 min away from me. Not just a fun fly but a HELI fun fly. Supposed to be a big, three day event, JR sponsored pilots I can't wait. I can't believe that there is something like that so close to me and so big. I figured there would be some heli flyers around and perhaps a club or three but a big fun fly? A big HELI fun fly? With JR sponsored pilots? Sweeeeet. I'm hoping there will be vender booth's set up, maybe I can find a good deal on a JR XP6102 or a XP8103. Or a TREX. And I hope that there are some scale helis too. I know they're raffling off a heli but I don't know which one. Man I'm excited. I'll fill the digi cam and post some pics here for you guy's. I don't know weather to take my BCP up there or not since all I can do is hover tail in. There's gonna be a lot to see, mine might just get hot in the car.

My buddy is gonna be pissed when I tell him I can't come and do the wireing in his drag truck because I'm going to go "play helicopter" but the way I look at it... the heli fun fly is THIS weekend...the drag truck can be ANY weekend. :-)

The fly-in I went to a couple months ago I just stood there with my jaw on the ground. As far as taking your bird, AMA membership will probably be required to fly. An insurance thing. You can get a trial membership for 19.99 if you don't already have it. No membership is required to watch.

That's true... All sanctioned flying sites require AMA in order to fly. Thats why I like the heli's, they can be flown almost anywhere. I paid for AMA for 1 year, earned 2 years for signing up 6 people, then let it lapse. The problem is, if ya don't fly every weekend, it's hard to justify the fee, which is over $50.00 now im pretty sure. Plus you have to join the local club or they ***** about you not contributing to the field by paying the dues. Well, I don't like model airports anyway... I'd rather fly my planes in the country and have different scenery every time. The $100.00 or so I save, pays for most of my fuel for the year. Also, it's my understanding that AMA will only pay a claim if you are flying at a sanctioned field, and flying according to their guidelines. No thanks, there's enough control in the world already... I don't need any more...
Spaeking of control, When did the B word become profanity on this site ? Might have to bag this sucker too !!! There's way too many Ken's and Barbie's in the world....

Well, I have given up on my Blade CP. Im sick and tired of replacing the tail motor... I will not have any more electric flying machines. At least the Nexus tail stays where I put it, and it doesn't balloon up/down constantly like the Blade CP. The BCP has done it's job for me though, it gave me fast thumbs from all the constant correction of those inferrior tail motors, and basically taught me to fly, so that's good for something... Now I want handeling accuracy, and the BCP just ain't got it....

You can't tell that way... Strap it down to a stool, spool it up slowly and see which blade tracks where. (at 3/4 throttle roughly) If one is higher than the other, you'll have to either bring the low one up by adding pitch to that one, or bring the high one down by reducing pitch on that one. Look at them straight on from the side, and the different colored stripes should make it easy to see if there tracking in the same plane.

start with post #58. Make sure your swash is level first. If you don't know how to adjust the swash, start with post #49.

Oh yeah, did you happen to balance the pair before you installed them. Small steps grasshopper

I use a small sissor or screwdriver to pry the link off the ball carefully...
