Can I convert the blade to mode 1? (throttle on the left)

You can buy the E-sky Tx on mode 1...may be on 35mhz though....Theoretically it should be possible to convert if you are good with that sort of thing....Maybe the E-sky Tx hardware transplanted into the blade tx or vice versa.....good luck!!

hardware is underlined because the word is a sponsored link here on RC univ. Click on it and you are taken to an rc hardware web site.

I have hacked my 4-in-1 and switched over to my JR 8103 Tx. Just let me say "WOW!!" It sure flies a lot better.
In idle up mode sitting on the ground I can punch the throttle and it'll go straight up with only a slight tail wag at the beginning. A much better throttle \pitch response. The only problem with these heli's are the seperate tail motors; trim is always changing, even with 3 cell lipo's. But all in all these are great fun. I'm looking to get a bigger glow model like a raptor 50 v2. Anyone know of a good deal on one? If I do move up I think I'll get an Airwof body with retracts for the blade for just messin 'round.
Happy flyin' everone

I think that the setup information by Bdavidson is really awesome. The amount of effort and time expended was very gracious of him. Horizon hobby also replaced a 4 and 1 unit for me and they were very helpful and prompt. You don't see very many companies today put in as much effort and time in customer support as they do.

Guys, last night I got to fly a Honeybee 3D heli with the new bell/hiller head that e-flite is coming out with.

UNBELIEVEABLE.

I cannot wait for this upgrade to come out for the blade.

The heli is EXTREMELY responsive. Any cyclic changes are immediatly seen in the heli's movement. Its a very rigid and smooth flying design. The collective is also smoother.

The heli is capable FINALLY of true 3D maneuvering. You could flip it over easily unlike the current stock blade configuration. Cyclic changes are really fast, and it flys more like a T-rex which is really impressive.

I cant even begin to tell you guys how much of a drastic improvement it is over the stock head design. I flew a whole 25 min on the new head, and it was some of the best heli flying Ive had with a blade sized heli. Its so much more stable and responsive. No more sloppy cyclic changes.

It will definitly be my next upgrade once it comes out.

The blade is already a really fantastic heli, but the new head design transforms it into an AWESOME heli.

If the Blade and HBCP2 are so much alike, why couldn't a person use the head off of a HBCP2?

Im not positive, but I think you probably could. It appears as though it would fit. Also there is a MUCH improved main shaft on the HB2 too.

I was really impressed with that head. Awesome.

I have the HB CP2 bell hiller on my blade CP. Great improvement in cyclic response and smooth collective. $23 with shipping from Helihobby.

No additional modifications, I still have the BCP main shaft/gear, still using the BCP blade grips, flybar/paddles, BCP CF blades.....bolted on with no changes including no changes to transmitter programming or trims.

Here is a list of parts:

EK1-0228 Center hub set (Quantity x 1) : 1 : 5.25
EK1-0229 Rotor head set (Quantity x 1) : 1 : 5.25
EK1-0231 Paddle control frame (outer) (Quantity x 1) : 1 : 3.74
EK1-0213 Bearing (Quantity x 1) : 1 : 2.80
EK1-0234 Pitch control link (Quantity x 1) : 1 : 1.87

Subtotal : 18.91
Shipping : 4.50
TOTAL : 23.41

Balsapr.com was $29 with shipping for the same exact parts.

Sounds like you guys are impressed with the bell hiller head. I made a list of stuff for the guys at my shop to order and the hiller head was on there, so we'll see. However I'm still going for my upcoming T-Rex 450XL because of the driven tail, while fixed pitch tails are simple and nice, they do NOT get the job done very well in my opinion and they are not accurate enough. I doubt you could use a heading hold gyro with a fixed pitch tail and get much improvement over a rate gyro.

I got my blade yesterday also and it is my first heli, I made some training gear for it and the most I have gotten it up was about 2 inches and really have not been able to get it into a hover, it wants to move all over the place as I am sure this is normal and I just need to practise and get the hang of it. It was trimmed perfectly out of the box, no adjustment needed except for the gyro, tail rotor kept want to go to the right but I got that fixed. Does anyone have any advise for keeping this thing stable once it lifts off? I didnt think much right stick input should be needed once you get it up to maintain a hover but it is like standing on a round ball and just seems not to want to stay in one spot, is there another adjustment I need to do? any info and help would be greatly appreciated. How long did it take you to be able to hover on your first time, everything I read says it could take hours of practice.
Try getting a little higher off of the ground. It is kinda scary but it seems to help me. I think the rotor wash is hitting the ground and causing turbulance.

Any of you guys having issues with inverted flight or just want a much more responsive blade....that new head is the ticket. Its awesome. Really Awesome. Its like a whole new helicopter.

If your still learning, I wouldnt recommend upgrading yet. It maybe too agile and maneuverable for you. It makes the heli move much faster when cyclic changes are entered.

BDavidson

Should there be any play in the blade grips, ( I have the 3 BB grips) side to side or up and down??? After a low altitude controled crash, (chopped the throttle) I noticed my main blades where no longer tracking true.
Thank you in advance for any help!

Bob

bdavidson,

I saw where billaltman had gotten one (HBCP2). I have had mine for about a week or so. It really is awesome in it's responsiveness. The only problem I am having is that when I trim it out to hover level and then go into FF it really wants to pitch up. I have to hold in alot of down. In plane terms it wants to porpoise. CG is set so that the heli sits level. All linkages are set as close to 90* as possible when using the stock radio. Did Bill's have any tendency to do this? Do you have any ideas as to why this would be? I'm stumped.
Thanks in advance.

BTW, I got word from Andy at Align that the new Trex 450SE's just arrived at the warehouse in California today. I have one coming priority mail.

You should be fine on grass. Just check where you put it to make sure the tail rotor has enough clearance. If you want a nice solid takeoff pad, use a doormat and throw it on the grass, and then put the heli on top of that. Works like a charm.

Grass is still nice because it also makes a cushion, just in case, you know

Was just checking out what the 450SE is...it's just like a 450XL but the stock parts are replaced with carbon and aluminum parts and that's all, right?

DarkWombat,

No, there are several new changes. I had found a site that showed what has changed, but I can't seem to find it now. Here's a link to DeeTee's site with a description, but they're leaving a couple of things out I think. One of the main upgrades is the tail control set (see pic). The ball links swivel, which cures the binding that was occuring to some.

Of course you'll be able to upgrade the XL...

If you have a garage that works great too. No wind and lights for night flying. That is what I am doing.

For me I think the faster response would be better for learning. I've been hovering for some time now and cant get used to the slag or the slow response from stick movement to the heli reaction. I would think if the response is in time with the stick movement that would be awesome.

Has anyone had any problems with electrical noise from the stock motor? I thought I was having problems with my 4-in-1 as the servos jitter during flight. I disconnected the motor wires, and there is no jittering throughout the servo movements without the motor running. I noticed that that motor has the chokes soldered onto the can, but was wondering if there was anything else I could do to minimize this electrical noise.

Thanks.

I`ve been lurking and reading this thread.....great info here!!
2 questions, I`ve been flying the covering off my blades and really enjoying this little bird....very impressed but if you hold the main gear and try to rotate the head, theres a slight amount of play....seems to be at the little pin that hold the head onto the mainshaft...is this normal?
Also, has anyone put tail fins on? I believe it would track better in flight....if so, what material and how did you mount them? (ops thats 3 questions!!!)

I did have alot of gitters when I first flew the BCP...found out it was a loose transmitter antenna.

My Personal opinion is, this is not a good heli to learn on...it can be done as some members here have done it...I think a good stable 30 sized glow is the best bet!
