My Blade cp is hovering great now that I have it set right, thank you to all who gave me advise. I have been hovering it in my small living room, (for about 30s to 1 min ) at a time. only gone thru 1 set of blades(so far).
Thanks again!

How big a file can one post for video?

Rabbitslayer,

When you are editing your message, look down at the bottom of box where you type in your message. There is a link that says "Click here to upload". I had the same problem figuring it out too.

Thanks, if this worked right this is my blade after a lesson learned: secure the darn canopy properly, it will find its way into the blades eventually

This is a different configuration for the training gear that works better for taxiing, it rolls around better and allows the tail rotor to stay off the carpet.

It worked!

Pretty cool landing gear config... I might have to give that a try, before I go training gearless.

I've been tinkering around with the battery packs and have made 2 of my own using 850mah AAA nimh batteries I got off ebay.
they give longer flight times without adding weight. I need to make proper connectors for them, I am using standard blade connectors right now.

Does anyone know if you can make your own blades? I looked inside my first set after I smashed them, and there is a soft lead strip in them, on the end of the leading edge, I have already cut out a rough shape of them in balsa wood and will try to coat them in diluded glue to stiffen them and then I guess cover them in packing tape or just monokote, I figure if I can do this, I should be able to save approx 15-18 bucks (canadian) cause new ones are $20.

Great idea, except don't use water based glues because it can swell wood fibers. Use a high grade slow set epoxy. It will soak into the wood fibers and strenghten them. Good epoxy is typically strong and flexible enough to fill all the gaps and dings in your blades. After it's cured you will need to do a lot of careful sanding.

An abissmal performance, I got lift off but because my homebuilt blades are handmade not machine made perfect, they track very poorly, oh well I tried. .

I have now graduated to 2 broken blade sets,,, Woo Hoo,,, but all is not lost for my hover skills are getting good,, my living room is too small though,, its only 8'X6' but it is flying better.

the tail motor front bushing let loose, which I discovered why my trim always had to be reset, its fixed now but I think I will spring for a new one.....

Hi all, new to the forum. My buddy broke his tail boom. Does anybody know how to replace it? I found a website where someone did a complete step by step build up of the BCP but can't find it. Anybody know of this site?

Thanks,

Jeff

Miroker:

Sounds like a 'bad' battery, or excessive pitch. Set it up again with "0" deree pitch at low throttle & trim. Same thing happened to me after many, many, flights & turned out to be the battery--Switched to a LiPo with which I'm totally pleased.

Was a beautiful day here in NY--Sunny, 46 degrees, & light breeze, so took my blade out--Boy, What a revelation compared to my tight garage. It flew beautifully, and finally got to see the bottom of it while in flight. Still consider myself a Novice, but without the restraints of the garage ---WOW Without fear of hitting a wall, the ceiling, or myself, I was able to let loose -- I was humbly quite pleased with myself after 7 wks of learning.

To Proteus: If the boom is CA'd in, may have to get a whole new 'frame'--It's really a quick "total rebuild" (I've done it at least 4 times). You can get another boom & drill the old one out, but the whole frame with tail mount & Motor wire is only $11.00 it's hardly worth the effort to repair it.

Would anyone out there in heli land know if a fellow could use the carbon blades (symmetrical) with the blue pack nimh,,, not to do any stunt flying , but just to buzz around with. and I was curious to know if the carbon blades are more resistant to dings than the balsa woodies.

My blade is hovering great thanks to all the help here on the forum. Thank you heli Gods. [X(]
I have only had my blade for 2 days and it hovers very nicely in my 8'X6' living room( albeit a shaved houseplant,, tee hee whoops )
I wasted a whole pack on one hover,, I am so pumped. I love this thing.......

Im recommending carbon fiber blades to everyone....

The heli is much better behaved with them, the symmetrical blades have to terribible tendencies...

As soon as you can hover confidently, switch to carbon fiber, they are much more resiliant, about 7 or 8 crashes on mine, not a scuff on them. It should be noted though, that when you do crash, you are more likely to break other parts since the blade dosn't break, but its still cheaper than 15 a pop. Have a few extra small peices like the linkages that connect the blade grips to the head as they seem to come off more often now in a crash, and you will never find them...as well as getting another head assembly (like 5 bux) just to keep on hand, thats are what breaks normally...

Aside from that, i found another secret for anyone wanting to try something new. I had broke a tail boom, and not wanting to buy the whole frame/everything for 12 bucks just for the boom, i bought the gwq tailboom...same diameter, but its about 1/2 to 3/4 inch longer...this gives the tail a little more control (more leverage essentially), and that extra length in addition to the smaller direct-drive tail rotor...gives enough room to use the shogun blades...very nice...

do the carbon blades work with the stock blue batteries or do I have to switch to lipo?

miroker check your blades, if the white plastic covering is damaged of torn on the leading edge i/t can start to open at high rpm's. It will act like a dying battery or cause blade spread. If this is the problem then just clean up and CA back down or use balance tape (equal amounts per side). Also check to make sure a paddle on the fly bar didn't twist.

The standard battery pack is fine for the Carbon Blades. The performance & handling is much improved over the Wooden Symmetrical blades, and considerably better than the standard 'flat' blade.

Also --- Though significantly more expensive, A LiPo & good rapid charger is the route to go. Just came up from my garage after a good solid 20 minute flight--hovering, walking up & back in the garage- etc. Probably could have another 10 min flying time but I'll wait till it recharges (about 1/2 hour).

rabbitslayer You can get blades for less than $8.00 at balsa products or PE main blades for $3..75 at heli fever and in a few weeks I should have a few sets of ABS blades for $15.00 (a little heavier but wont shatter like carbon fiber). Will post when I try and give feed back

If you cut a few inches off blade covering and apply a thin CA it will soak into the balsa, you can then sand with fine grit. It will allow for more blade strikes before ends break and still hold in the lead weights. Make sure you balance before flight. The blades Balsa Products sells have been way off on weights but once CA is added and they R balanced they hold up great. I can now beat up the wifes furniture without problems.

I keep hearing about CF blades shattering, but thats RARE...

On the big nitro birds, yeah, you can explode a blade, but with the blade, its not likely to happen, i flew full speed into a brink building(depth perception differed from reality)....broke alot of things, but the blades werent on that list...i dnt see a way to crash harder than that...
