We're definitely going to need some video especially now that there's a possibility of the wing exploding. I had a similar incident with a .46 3D. It was awesome and I wish I had a video of it

+1.....Video would be awesome ! Especially if the wing explodes, and ya land it ! [8D] Hey.... If they can land a F-15 with one wing, I'am wanting to see some top-gun in the RC-world do that on film...Lol....

Yeah it happened to most everyone for about a 5 hour period of them trying out new software for a different layout/format. A few could log on, and it took me a couple hours before I could even get on... They were overwhelmed with complaints from members, and had the whole site full of bugs with many of the functions not working. Thank goodness they put it back to the original version like right now. 48 hours worth of posts were also missing... It was a bummer... Sure hope they don't try and go back ! They wanted to do it on a Friday, to try and work through the bugs as they said it was there slower posting time from Fri-Sun, but I would think that would be there busier time !...Lol... Some of us went to Helifreak and chatted there in our own thread in the offtopic session. I was going to stay if they stayed with that newer layout... I did not like it at all, and everyone else agreed.

I saw Vic was able to make it through, and I did, and only a couple others.... Glad to be back home ! I have a feeling there going to fix the bugs, and then re-install the newer improved software though... The admin guy said it is so much better than the older version and he said we would then be wondering why they didn't change it a long time ago, but I dunno.... I like this format the best... The reason why I prefer here than helifreak, is I like the layout, and you can see who is online up above and other stuff like that..

Cheers,

~ Jeff

BTW...... Cool plane ! It may help your orientation a little flying that helping with your heli skills in a way.... [8D]

Yeah, it'll be a good format if everything is working correctly. I got on, even managed a post BUT it was VERY buggy.

OK....other than a few minor things I need to take care of, here's the pics of the Align MD500E (OH6) fuse on my EXI-450. I do need to put a skid wire on the vert stab, and more tweeking here and there. It's stable, it flies well, and is well lit for those tail end daylight flights. Please excuse the crappy photos, it's not my camera and I'm not used to it:

Hi All!

Great day here, the wind was down and we got a long enough break in the rain for me to maiden my Heer Engineering P-51 Mustang. It couldn't have gone better.[8D] This plane flies like a low wing trainer. I bought this plane over a year ago at a swap meet for $10. It was originally flown as glow and crashed. I did some pretty extensive work to get it to where it is and now with E power. The servos in it are from LookJ's servo sale, Thanks Jer!

That was awesome ! I miss your videos.....[] Thanks for posting... If your worried about being on topic which I wouldn't worry about it since there's really no one flying there Blades no more, just put some Blade CP stickers on those planes...LMAO... [8D] Don't forget come Spring time here in the next month or two to get one of those Aerial videos of your area there.

I got a chance to sneak in a few loops with the Trex 500 early this morning. I had gloves on, but my fingers were still stinging from being so cold ! Only one battery pack, but it was all worth it...

Vic ~

Awesome pictures of that Hughes ! I hope your making an album of all those that you have done to date... Very sweet... [8D]

Cheers,

As you remember, I use Nero HD for my videos and then I'll snap still photos from that, and then I convert the images into a GIF format. (Graphics Interchange Format) Or something like that... Yeah are weather is crazy this year. [&:] A few weeks ago they called for a chance of mixed snow & rain, and then in 7 hours we got a 12" of snow ! This morning while I was filming my 500 flight it was cold at 7:00 A.M. but the skies were clear and sunny... Then hours later, its gusting 30 mph winds and started snowing hardcore as I shot the picture below in my yard... Were not even suppose to get snow in my area until tomorrow evening in which they say possibly 4". Which could mean 13"... Who knows... I still gotta get that Aerobird Challenger 3 up in the sky for a snow flight so maybe tomorrow morning....... [8D] Everything is protected inside the fuse as you know, so a belly landing in the snow could be sweet ! Its just that I never have hand launched it before. So that will be a learning experience if I try.

I can't make ya any promises on your weather, but ours is coming from Canada I believe......

Take care Jay,

Hey Jeff,
That is a great island feature, it could do without the snow though, LMAO! I love the landscaping, great job[8D] I hope you don't get dumped on to bad. That 500 looks great, where's the video on the flight this morning? Switching back and forth from the Blade Pro and the 500 must be like jumping across a canyon

OK buys, here is the drill. I won an online club lotto and picked the VTO. The only request was video. If I had chosen a 50" trainer the request would not have been made. I fly the Lightflight bug, and this plane is a balsa version. I have a garbage bag packed in my tx bag. I have my doubts about the structural intergrity if the plane under a serious load. Anyway, I promised to video the flight with my hat cam, showing what I see. When I Launch the VTO pixels will be rolling, and the outcome will be viewable.

Tim, I hope that the bag never has to be pulled out for use. No real 3D plane is designed for high speed snaps and such, that's why so many videos of one wing landings keep emerging. 3D and your VTOL are meant to fly comfortably at slow speeds. They're designed to be light to fly light. They also lack the bulk of structural weight in most sport planes. On the other hand fast snaps will result in some great footage

Blessings!

Yeah it is a night and day difference I'll tell ya... But I noticed with the CPP it wasn't all that bad, but it was hard to fly it with the shaking in the last video. But I did notice that since it has so much slop that nose-ins weren't as bad as I thought, and I like the way the tail flows naturally around with the heli... I now understand what flying the tail means, and I really liked it. All I ever have known so far while I learned forward flight was with the Trex 450 and the GY401 running in a HH mode at about a 78% gain. I'am going to reduce my gain in HH mode now I think with both the Trex's to loosen up the tail a bit to make it look more natural, and I like the feel of it more I think....

Oh yeah the video isn't much as nothing has really changed any the way I've been flying but I did throw it on Vimeo to document some setting changes I was messing with and such.

http://vimeo.com/3515195

Rick ~

I use the Nero version that is the one that came out right before yours came out. Its Nero Ultra HD Edition 8.3.6.0... I got it Free off the internet through a file sharing program. I think Arrow has the same one, or his might be the newer one like yours. I use it to snap still shots of any videos I take, along with any music editing and such. You know, as you have it and I'am sure yours has more functions as the new and improved version.

Take care guys,

~ Jeff

Well, here I am, a day late and a dollar short. I’ve been lurking as usual and see that everyone is
doing just fine and dandy. I really don’t have anything to report. My Blade 400, is back ordered,
but that’s okay. I’m not in any hurry with it because the weather here in Indy SUCKS anyway. I
got it for about 120 bucks less than any other site. So the waiting will be worth the patience.

Kyle,

How ya doing with the Belt-CP? I hear they are very similar to the Blade 400. Sounds like when
ya get the house Re-Wired (been there too), you have a lot of fun projects going on with the ME-
109,a hextronik 20g 2300kv, brushless outrunn and all the good stuff. Loved the pictures of your
new project, jeezzz, they’re huge. Looks like a really fun build. Get some pictures as you
progress. I see the DX6i, lurking in the back ground. LOL!

Vic,

Hope my logic works out on the Blade 400, at least I’ll get a DX6i out of it, but I’m gonna take
the time to set ‘er up right. I’ll make some test flights out of the box to get a base line of stock
performance and then install the JR servos and go from there. I don’t do anything real fancy, so I
don’t see any upgrades real soon, but ya never know. Good weather is just around the corner,
been a long waiting. The 500E is looking awesome.. Hmmm, get a 5 blade head for it. LOL!

Rick, Mr. Barrick,

You always amaze me with all that you do and accomplish. You have those fingers into a lot of
projects all at the same time. No wonder you have dizzy spells. LOL! I totally understand your
logic on the Honey Bee King 3. I must apologize for having any negative input on the heli. As it
were, I too, just ordered one a few days ago and looking forward to it’s arrival. I got the RED
one. LMAO! So, that’s two helis incoming, the Blade 400 and the HBK3. We’ll have to keep
each other updated on the HBK 3. I love the size of it, because I can practice in my basement in
bad weather. If it works out well, I’ll be putting all the CNC gear from my HBK 2 on it. I’ll have
to give it some thorough testing first. And see how the stock heli performs.

Love ya Rick

Jay,

YIKES! The P-51 video is awesome, extremely smooth and fast flying. Looks fantastic. We
remember that’s the one you made the cowling for. 10 bucks, you rascal you. Lots of work I’m
sure of that, but wonderful plane it turn out to be Kudos to ya! Ya got the helmet cam down prett
y good too, excellent job on that. ( I can’t even take still pictures, LOL)

Jeff Michael,

I’d have to put you as the Man of the Year, you’ve excelled extremely well, and for a youngster
like you. Your abilities will just grow. I’ve watched all your current videos, and I’m extremely
impressed with the progress you’ve made in the last 6 months. Kudos to you too. My progress
pretty much SUCKS. LMAO!

I’LL BE BACK,

Dave

Tip Of The Day,

Find a new hobby..... Naw, just kidding.

Fly Bar Paddle Tracking:

A couple pictures attached... Quick and easy.

Get out your favorite pitch gauge and set it to zero, and lock it in.
(Hey Vic, ya notice it's an E-Flite.)

Place the pitch gauge on the fly bar paddle about half way into the paddle.

Then, just eyeball it, it should be level with the blade grips. That simple. (The picture shows it off a tad and needs to be adjusted)

Depends on the type of paddle ya have, but grip the fly bar paddle collar or the flybar itself, with pliers and adjust as need. Do both of them.

Later Bobs,

Dave

DAVE K. is right (as usual) I juggle way too many projects.
Here is the one on hand for today : but it may be of particular interest
to JIM WNUK, who did not know about permanent igniters .

I benefit twice with this system installed : 1- never need a McDaniel igniter
and 2- get FULL TANK runs with no flame outs.
This system reads temp. on the glowplug. It is not lit at HIGH THROTTLE
and below the low setting on the throttle. Any other setting is protected
from shutting off.
I am almost DONE, once I figure the last three attachment points : 1 to the
ground on the engine block, another for the LED that shows functionality
and the soldering of a single cell NiCad 1500 .
The pictures show the stages. Note the permanent cap on the plug....
WORK ; but FUN TOO
p.s. when the HBK 3 arrives I will do what CRASH suggests : COPY one the
helicopters programmed in my DX-7 and start from there. Did y'all see the
new GADGET in HELIPROZ SOUTH, to secure zero degree measurements in
flybars, swash, etc ? great stuff.
I am definitely planning on locking the FLYBAR, to start the JOB from guaranteed ZERO DEGREES

Thanks guys...... Couldn't have gotten this far with out everyone here on the forum however. I'am spending some more time on Helifreak now just to try and broaden my knowledge a bit more. Nothing really hasn't changed in my flying style for awhile however, so I'll probably quit filming my flights for awhile and just concentrate on cleaning up how I do fly right now to make them look more smooth and such.

Jay ~

Thanks for the tips on the Typhoon in the P.M... I think I really was rusty, but nothing has changed on the craft from all the other times that I did fly it before, and was using the same Thunder Power 2100 mah 15c 3-cell lipo.... BUT... I was using a smaller prop that came with the craft on this flight that I have only tried once before instead of the bigger one that I normally fly on. It seemed it REALLY made the bird more responsive especially being rusty... I'll have to order that bigger one again and install that and try again.

I really appreciate the info you and Rick share here regarding stuff about the planes as I really know nothing but just simple flying techniques. Very interesting to me, and I'am sure others. It helps pass the time until any on-topic stuff pops up and keeps the thread alive... Thanks !

Tim, I hope that the bag never has to be pulled out for use. It's getting hard to keep up with you guys, Spring must be here!

Jay and Jeff- Great videos, as always.
I really like that P-51 Jay. Did it have any bad habits?

Rick- I book marked the info on the glow ignitor and will keep it handy for my next project. I'm intrigued with it to say the least. Have you been using the Turnigy charger?

Vic- The Mrs and me are doing well, thanks for asking. Hope you are doing better yourself. Oh, and you are a MASTER with scale fuselages![8D]

Dave- Any word on when the backorder will clear on the B400?

As for me, I finally ran some batteries this past weekend. Friday the winds were 15 MPH with gusts to 20 but the weather otherwise was just perfect. So I got a short 5 minute /hover flight in some nasty winds. I have nothing but praise for the GY401. I put the heli sideways (crossway) into the wind and the nose never left it's direction. The entire heli was blown about 20 feet to my right but that nose stayed solidly locked straight ahead.

On Saturday, temps were a bit cooler but there was no wind. I ran 2 more batteries. I will say I was rusty the entire weekend and as such just did hovers, piros, stall turns, and figure eights trying to shake the cob webs off. I was quite happy to be back out flying again though.

Jeff- You mentioned in an earlier post about backing of the gyro gain setting to "fly the tail" more. As I landed my second flight on Saturday I was thinking the SAME thing. The gyro holds the tail almost to "tight" and it seems like I am fighting to get the tail to come around on a coordinated turn or even a stall turn.

Hopefully this is the start to a great spring and I can get back to trying inverted hovers.

Default RE: Wheeeeeeee.......... Blade CP!

I finally had a break in the wind at 5-10mph (I think there's a pun there someplace) and I got to put the F-16 up. Nothing real fancy, just a couple loops and some aileron rolls while flying the pattern. I got the D/R's set to like 45-50%, and it felt a little lame to me....I need to "kick 'er up" a little. I must be getting more comfortable with it because I want quicker responses from input. I guess you could say I had it on trainer mode last year, now it's time to push it up a couple notches. The field out back where I fly here....it's pretty wet. I landed on what I thought was grass, but the splashing as she was landing looked a bit odd, and it went a LONG way after touchdown (LMAO...it was a jet boat at that point). I'll get a couple flights out of the 500E later this evening, I'll stay out of the field with it....it would be a submarine out there.
