Thank you, JIM W...... I think it is the most perfect canopy.....elegant & stylish....... gotta a frenn up in MICHIGAN (middle of the mitten) who is the Leonardo of canopies.
Oh, HELLO VIC ! ...... thanks. the photo came out OK, thanks for the praise. It's taken with the old Cyber-Shot by SONY ( 3.2MegaPix.)
now cast your eye on the Cyber-Shot by SONY (10.1 MegaPix.) I picked up in Brazil last week.....He gave me a 8GB DUO Memory stik as a BONUS.
with this cam. you can take up to 8 thousand pics. or record a movie for 3 hrs 20min using the batt and the memory I was given.
Now I have to spend a MONTH reading the instructions. This darn thing even has a setting "portrait" that waits to shoot until the subject SMILES....Truly : "Smile Detection" !
I will try that with BEAU as the subject
actually I just came BACK. Took the FIRST pic with the new camera. It seems that there's too many pixels in the BEAU pic. because RCU refuses to pull it down.
So now I must go back to the SONY Manual and find out how to REDUCE the size. But on second thought, I think I will just continue to use the OLD cam. which works.
G'night y'all.
Boy, I am so grateful for the BOB s otherwise I would have NOBODY to talk to, AT ALL [

Geese, I'm not doing very well this year. I just blew up my HBKII. I hit an end table with the mains and it scattered stuff all over the place. I was testing a Copter X tail unit with T-Rex tail rotors which in the very short time I had with it, was AWESOME! The tail was completely locked in but just a hair out of trim when I just dumb thumbed it into the table. The end $$ will not be nice. I've got it 75% disassembled and the carbon blades are gone, tail blades gone, feathering shaft toasted, main shaft bent, flybar bent, smaller parts to be inspected. Dog Gone! I have to say I was smiling ear to ear before it hit so I can't complain. I love this hobby. Looks like Michael @ UShobbysupply will be getting a call. I hate this because it was flying so well, now I'l be starting all over again[:@] I've got two crashes for the year, I think I'm in the lead[

Dang Jay ! Well, at least yer tinkering with something as winter embraces ya.....
I just put back in my stock motor in the Trex, as My Common-Sense motor has no more power after testing it from my last crash... I think it failed in flight and caused the crash, but it comes with the territory...
Good thing i wasn't in Cali flying over the ravines and such.... LMAO..
Here's a 42 second clip of the motor failing in flight... I originally had thought it was a lockout.
Watch in high quality : (I think ya seen it already Jay, snooping over at the other thread.

Flying the Trex 500 on Sunday : (High quality)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaa8M8vavHE
At the 2:50 mark on the 500 video, I was trying out a little nose-in, and its so much more easier than the 450, which I won't attempt yet in real life...

Darnnit Jay...just when it was dialed in too. Two crashes in a year...you're WAY ahead of the game here (LMAO). JEFF...I've had the commonsense R/C batteries, got nothing good to say about them. I'm running a Danlion 3500kv in my 450...I like it very much. Runs cool and has LOTS-O-POWER. Also running a UBEC and 40a OPTO ESC.....I hate wearing out batteries and motors so I try for the optimal setups. Just did a test on my EXI-450 tonight and it runs cool and VERY SMOOTH. It's so stable, I even pull off nose in's in zero wind because it about hovers it's self....I'm VERY impressed with it to date.

just stopping by to see how all the BOB's are doing.
glad to see everyone still around and posting!
I've taken some time away from the hobby and actually scaled back my heli addiction quite a bit. Actually, I just got back from a little vacation and now need to focus on getting back to work. Things have been pretty slow with this economy....
anyways, here's a couple pics from my recent trip.

Beautiful Pics, Jeremy! Looks like you had a great time. Nice to see you checking in now and then.
Jay- That sucks. I know you use the HBK as your test bed so I'll bet you have it back together in no time at all.
Jeff- You were real pleased wit the CSRC motor when you got it. Did it just suddenly cease or had you been experiencing problems before this incident?
Vic- Hope you are still feeling good!
Not a SINGLE B400 flight for me this year yet though the weather is going to get near 50 this upcoming week.

Jeff, I was lurking and saw that video. Motor going out makes a lot of sense. That sucks it caused all of that damage.
Jer great pictures. To bad you couldn't fly a Rex off the top and get some pics of that.
Guys, yeah it sucks smashing it but I now have something to do. I'm going to completely tear it down and rebuild I have a bare bones for parts but I need to get the things like the Carbon Blades and such.
Everyone enjoy the weekend. I'm happy... NASCAR starts tomorrow with the Bud Shootout and the Daytona 500 next week. I love this time of the year

Hey guys, just checking in. I haven't flown my heli since monday. But I have a good excuse. I got the VTO!
Assuming I can find a rx easily it might get finished tnoight.
Rick, sweet heli. I might have you beat on the old camera deal. I'm still using my Kodak EasyShare cx4250, with a whopping 2 megapixels
. It does the job, so I haven't replaced it.

]Great to be among my friends. I need a little boostering. I was advised today , 15minutes before we clocked out , that I have been moved to PART TIME ( 20hrs/week) and that I NO LONGER
HAVE MEDICAL COVERAGE.....
so the "times" have caught up with me.....
looking for the POSITIVE ++++ side : my afternoons now are FREE....the R/C field is lightly populated during the week, and NOW I HAVE TIME TO DO THE FORWARD FLIGHT LEARNING yeaahhh !

FERN : that plane looks exciting and great. you make me WANT to fly that thing. looks FANTASTIC
LOOKYJ: got the PM ? must've been a great TRIP.....the photos are PRO level, really nice
RADIO & JMichael : both of you ENCOURAGE me and I always remember your wording when I go out. Now, with time on my hands, your encouragements will come in pretty good. I APPRECIATE Y'ALL SO MUCH
CRASH : great GREAT NEWS ; and so it will CONTINUE, you'll be in PERFECT CONDITION after all those checks.
remember y'all : we're ALL in this TOGETHER.
.... but i sure hope it gets better fasterRICK the HumanResources gal advised I should FILE for UNENPLOYMENT right now, so that's my project

Rick, I know what you mean about work. I voluntarily cut my hours some, and we had to let our shipping guy go so that leaves me fabricating and managing inventory. My buddy is running most of the sales and product dev and his wife doing the accounts. Kind of back to where we were 10 years ago. We are working with Hard Rock on some custom product and House of Prime Rib just made a decent custom order, so I have plenty of work right now. I don't think I mentioned what I do. Primarily I'm the Fabricator for [link=http://www.dineart.com]DineArt[/link] . We make and import front of house restaurant and bar accessories. For custom stuff you might have seen PF Chang's got custom bar caddies. And if you have been to an Outback that had a folded steel menu holder, I built it.
OK, back to the VTO. This thing should be a hoot.

Tim That thing has HUGE elevons. I'll bet it's going to be an interesting maiden! Any chance of some video of it?
Rick- For a guy who just got his hours cut you sound cheerful! But I guess I expect that of you. Your glass is always half full and not half empty. That's something I admire about you
In this weak economy and troubling times, it's comforting to know we always have a place to come (here at RCU) and relax some. Thanks for the frienships all!

Jim, I think it will be tamer than my Bug. But that is not saying a lot. The bug is an epp profile that is pretty well designed the same. The big difference will be weight. The Bug comes in at about 7 onces with a heavy build. And on 3s lipo can be very exciting very quickly. The VTO is much heavier. But we shall see. As for video, well I won the plane in a lotto, but there was a caveat. Please video the flight(s). So, yes when I maiden this plane I will hatcam it.

Hang in there buddy !
At least ya have a positive attitude... More flight time though !
Tim ~
Can't wait for a video of that little beast !
Crash ~
Gotta love fiberglass ! Where's Ed...?! LMAO...
Sunny and 57 degrees today with a mild wind. Putted around with the 450 today in my backyard... The canopy after my crash got pretty banged up and was pretty 'soft' where the damage of the fiberglass occured. Last night I grabbed some of my fiberglass resin and after prepping it very well with Acetone I soaked the glass with some resin and now she's stronger than stock, but looks a bit horid... LMAO... Its survived 4 crashes, and I don't see a need to stop there just yet in my learning phases so the canopy is back on with a vengeance....
Besides, people see that canopy while the 450 is flying around and more than likely they might be a little skeptical on getting to close... Kinda like the car on the freeway all banged up and swerving.... Ya just stay away....

I'am right there with ya Tim, and have an ol' skool Kodak camera with only 4 mega pixels but it works ! I've been using this set-up for the past year and it works great... I use the industrial strength velcro which holds the 247 gram camera great, and if ya want to remove the velcro from the camera it doesn't even phase it. You literally have to pry the camera from the velcro on the harness. Which is why I also use the stuff for all my batteries and they stay put like in the last crash the battery didn't budge...

The pics aren't the greatest, as they were taken with my cell phone.

THANXX JIM : when you're 71 and employed, you got no recourse or defense. Everybody assumes that you are working just for the "sport" of it . WRONG !!!!! now I will have to THINK beforespending anything, particularly trips to Brazil. Not to mention the downward spiral of the retirement EGG which is about to dissapear.
On the POSITIVE SIDE, home @ 12:30pm allows flying in all those Windless Spring afternoons and evenings, when the field is at low occupancy.
and DOUBLE my thanks for these friendships too ...... without y'alls group I would not exchange ONE WORD WITH ANYBODY from Friday to Monday.
except for the check-out clerk at KROGER

The INNOVATOR is occupying my attention right now. I have muddled my way all the way up to the END, but the last phase : lighting the motor, just won't kick in. I think it's battery problems
I am leaning on the INNOVATOR thread in RCGROUPS for help and guidance ...... ( My HANDLE IS : SANDRA ) ha ha that is because my daughter signed me up as a surprise gift while she
was here visiting, and used her name to start the registration. I just left it that way >
JW : how's the lady's health ?

Hey Rick, good to use any place for advise. I fly between both and the latest is Fossomon's Flightwizard. http://flightwizzard.wetpaint.com/
The right question to the right people makes the difference in results. I pray you get compensated for the reduction at work. Now you need a cheap ole' HBKII to sling around so the $$ doesn't keep you from pushing those sticks around. God Bless ya!
Tim, that VTO looks Bad *****. I love to see some video on that as well. I bet it'll parallel park. Very cool[8D]
Jeff, I'm surprise now that your back in Washington that your not molding your own canopies[X(] A little plaster of paris and you have yourself a mold
Just an update on my bent stuff... parts coming from Michael @ www.ushobbysupply.com and some that he couldn't get are on there way as well. I hope to have my HBKII rebuilt by Wednesday. I'm even getting some CF paddles
I can't wait to give the CopterX tail grips a work out on the open range. The wife has given me the evil eye on flying in the basement... I have to agree with her.

Blessings All!
Jay

I just upgraded from a BCPP to a Trex and am having a couple of issues. The tail is solid in the air and does not drift of wag, but on the ground the tail servo is continuously jittering. Is this normal? The gyro is a 401 with a JR3400 servo. The other issue i'm having is a lot of glitching, both on the ground and in flight. While hovering the motor will periodically cut out for a half of second, then continue on like nothing happened. On the ground everything is glitchy. The servos have a mind of there own and the motor even powers up for a half a second periodically. I am using an FM system, I have considered purchasing a 2.4 ghz system, but i'm not sure if the radio is the cause of all the glitching. Any ideas on these issues would be greatly appreciated!!!!

First...FM is crap, causes a lot of probs that don't exist with the 2.4 gHz systems. As matter of fact. I would say the cut-outs and jitters are being caused by your radio system or possibly a bad servo or two some place. Your antenna should be way clear of the ESC and gyro, both will cause glitches, etc. The probs you're having is exactly why I dumped my Hi-Tec RCD Eclipse 7 and went to a DX7, never looked back.

do i dare SUGGEST THIS :
from my old career with Planks.....what you describe reminds me of problems that were prevalent in the old days, (even not so old days)
on the ground, if the TRANSMITTER ir TOO CLOSE to the RECEIVER, it swamps, over-rides, glitches, etc etc
An experiment, for what it's worth, costs you nothing, : try not leaning over the helicopter with the TX in your hands. Rather step back 10 feet. I bet everything STABILIZES
valueless suggestion ? no sweat, NO CHARGE
