Default Mcx/Msr Controller

Is the controller that comes as standard any good?
I want to get an Mcx and here in the uk you can get a 5ch Spectrum DX5i for a little over the normal price, but altho the std controller has digital trims ( not a big fan) it fits in the box.
Everywhere i look ,I have rc stuff, in drawers, cupboards, the shed, the loft, garage ,and space is becoming a BIG issue in my house , so if a new model comes compete in one box - Sorted
So, to ask again, is the normal controller any good?? or should i go with yet another box??

I use my MCX with the provided controller. I use the MSR with my Sketrum DX7. I don't mind the provided controller as it is simpler to carry around. Not much more offered with a better controller (other than possibly throttle/pitch curve adjustments which I don't use for the MSR). I bought the MSR as BNF to save money - I think it would be fine with the controller provided (and it's much lighter).

I use my DX6i but do have a stock TX I take if I am going somewhere and do not want to tote a lot of different stuff. To this point I have not used the stock TX. The DX6i has a lot of features the stock TX does not. The only reason I have the stock one is they do not make a BNF for the tandem yet and it came with it. I have all the Eflite Micro helicopters, standard MCX, MCX S300, MSR and the tandem.

I just adjusted the Dual Rate expo to -50% (Aileron, Elevator, Rudder) on my DX7 transmitter for the MSR, and I like the response much better. Less stick movement. Probably like the stock transmitter where you can adjust how aggressive you want it to be.

The DX6i makes the MSR fly like a whole different heli with the right controller settings. It doesn't make much difference with the MCX - that heli is fairly numb regardless of the controller you use.

I have both controllers because I use my dx for my cx heli and use the controller thats came with the mcx to fly it only. I think it is easier because you don't have to bind the heli each time you use a different one. I am going to purchase a msr next and debating to buy the controller so I don't have to use my mcx contoller. and keep binding then each time.

I actually like the RTF radio a lot, but I just got a DX6i, and as stated here, I hear it makes them much better to fly. I'm going to bind my MSR to it this week and find out.[8D]

You don't have to rebind the MSR or MCX each time with a DX transmitter. They support multiple helicopters / planes. You just have to select which one when you turn on your transmitter, and you are all set to go. My DX7 supports up to 20 birds. I have 5 helicopters (MCX, MSR, CPP2, 2 x HK450) and one plane (GWS eStarter) on it. Lots of room to grow.

IN REPLY TO SCREAM AND FLY: I HAVE HEARD THE SAME THING ABOUT THOSE TRANSMITTERS AND I AGREE. I USED IT ON MY MCX AND IT WAS AWSOME.[8D] i CAN'T WAIT BECAUSE I AM GETTING MY MSR NEXT WEEK. I AM SOOOOOOO EXCITED

IN RESPONCE TO GI1MO2 IS HOW DOES THAT WORK. i JUST TURN ON THE TRANSMITTER AND IT WILL BIND WITH THE BIRD THAT I END UP WANTING TO USE. I TRIED IT WITH MY CX2 AND CX3 AND I HAD TO BIND THEM EVERYTIME TO THE TRANSMITER??????

With the DX6i and DX7 (at least), you can program and bind multiple planes and helis. I don't believe you can do that with the controller that comes with the CX2/3 (I had a CX2 and it was single heli only as far as I remember).

The stock remote is not that good but you get used to it.

I have the DX5i and I think something is wrong with how it flies the MSR.

The stock controller definitely feels better than the DX5i.

The DX5i is also fairly big can be a bit much.

The controller you want to spend extra coin on is really the DX6i and that will allow you to really fine tune the control of the heli. Really takes the same heli to a whole other level.

I bought the MCX RTF and then the MSR BNF. I use the controller with both. I find it good (just the right size) for inside flying and it does have dual rates which helped me get used to the MSR at first. And I've grown used to the digital trims and like them. I think this will be the way of the future on many (all?) transmitters.

I took the stock controller that I recieved with my cx3 and binded it with my mcx and for some odd reason when I push the stick forward the mcx flies backwards and when i want to turn left or spins the nose left it goes right. its like everything is backwards. I tried rebinding it but got the same results. suggestions???? by the way I think that i am going to splurge anf get the dx6i controler with the bnf msr

There are dip switches on the controller that will reverse the servo direction. Look in the manual, forum or the Horizon web site for more information on the dip switch settings.

Yes you will. Remember the settings. For the LP5DSM transmitter (from another post):

1 - Aero(off) Heli(on)
Heli - 6ch becomes extra AIL,
Aero - 6ch becomes pitch
which need extra mod to use properly,
but I don't think I need to modify that
because most of new helis use CCPM instead)
2 - CCPM (For Heli, using ch6)
3 - ELE->RUD mix (For Aero, only work either 3 or 4, not both)
4 - ELE->AIL mix (For Aero, only work either 3 or 4, not both)
5 - THR Reverse
6 - AIL Reverse
7 - ELE Reverse
8 - RUD Reverse
9 - 5ch Reverse
10 - 6ch Reverse

Also a YouTube video on the LP5DSM dip switches:
