Hello Jeff, I just finished reading this thread and I’m amazed at your work. I’m coming back to the hobby and I was wondering if I could kindly ask you for a copy of the plans of the Lightning.

All the best on the new job.

Thanks in advance
J

Hi Jeff,
Ive recently been looking for a nice F3A plane to build. The Lightning Looks great and Id love to attempt it.
Is there any possibility you could send me a copy of the plans.?
PDF and/ or Cad files (DXF or Auto Cad comparable) would be great.
To buy such a model is prohibitive in cost!

My Email is: [email protected]

Best Regards
Paul

Default Gonna Build 3ea., Niece, Nephew and myself-Whew! in 3 months

Well team, that's it. After looking at all the possible builds (I'm just getting back into the sport after a 40 year hiatus, thus was looking at all the Birdi, TigerTail, Kougars... designs), we three amigos here have decided to build this Lightning design ASAP. All three ships need to be completed in the next three months so that the youth can compete over the summer. (fly a 40 year old Kougar until then) These are going to be FAST BUILD given the time crunch but I think the kids will love that aspect. I loved all of the build photos and the kids now have all those great photos in a book, ready for referencing.

We see allot requests for the plans below. If they are available then please PM me and I can give you an email.

I guess we also need to follow Mr Viper in the upcoming competition season. GO VIPER (Mr. Carder) !

Respectfully, Carl

Carl,
are you going to build it from the Eureka short kit? or completely from scratch?
I am waiting for Jeff to finish the Thunderbolt plans and kit arrangements. The Eureka short kit is worth the money (I have one and I went with all wood wings). So are you building one Lightning or 3?
Good luck, keep us updated with your progress.

Carl,

Best of luck with the builds, I love the ambition! If you give me your email address I will send the plans to you.
I am hoping to get some flying in soon. My flying and building have been about nil lately.

Best of of luck on the builds,

Jeff

Thanks Will. Yes this is going to be an insane project and hopefully all three airplanes come out to the same standards you guys have been maintaining, but 100% beautiful isnt the goal. Getting the kid's self worth up, skills up, some two day trips over the summer, and hopefully some trophies is the goal. The crazy thing is another nephew wants to build Mama Mia by Joe Birdi, and two 20-something year-old engineering friends want to build two F3A bipes. Photos will sure be posted.
Pray for me.

cg-eng.….Kudos to you for your parenting skills! Reading your post brought back many memories. My dad did the same thing for me as a young stupid kid and I can't begin to tell you the lifelong impression it left with me. Your kids will have these memories for the rest of their lives and the good it will do for them is something that cannot be measured. I'll be looking forward to your progress pix as well.

Send Viper Driver a PM, give him your email address and ask him to send you a set of plans for the Lightning. Just as easy as that....

Hello Jeff,

What an interesting thread, I already build a lot of airplanes in almost all materials, and wood is still my preference.
You did a good job with the lightning. is it possible to get a copy of your plans? I will apreciate.
email: [email protected]
thanks from France

I have found that a slightly heavier cloth (2 oz) with high thread count takes less resin to bond. Been out of pattern since about 2012, and this Lightning is my top contender for getting back in.

I'm just getting back to RC airplanes after a 10ish year hiatus. I was thinking of building this beauty but I've been led to believe that good balsa is really hard to come by in 2021. Where are you folks finding your contest balsa these days?

Jeff, might I bug you for a copy of the plans sent to: sps3172 at yahoo dot com ? Thanks in advance!

Jeff, thanks for sending me the plans. Could you please tell me what percentage to have the copy shop enlarge them to be full size?

Thank you,
GT
