The Falcon F3A packs are being replaced by Falcon 5S1P 20C packs - their website seems to lag for some reason, give George a call / email at Falcon for the latest info. I've a couple of dozen flights on the 20C packs and they appear to be excellent.

Hey Chris, I will be flying Advanced this year. What batteries do you think that I should run this year. I am leaning towards TP. Should I use the Extreme or Pro-lites and then what Mah capacity?

If I was starting advanced and wanting to use the Tp's I would use the 4200 prolites most likely. Price is good, and they are good packs. Enough for Advanced and Masters IMO. I run the 3700's from Flight Power in Masters and they are very good but a little marginal for capacity. They work for my style of flying and I keep it under 2900mah of usage each flight.
If you were to go Extreme, you would want something in the 37-4200 range IMO for Advanced. Extremes, being the same cells (I believe as mine) would probably have a little more power due to the holding power under load.
Now this being said, this depends on your flying style and how you prop your plane. Also, if you fly the sequence and land, or if you fly the sequence and want to fly more. I fly the sequence and land, every time. (Well, when I can remember the dang thing, lol)..
If you can afford the 5300's (prolites) , they are awesome packs. Great capacity. And you can probably fly your sequence twice.
I have thought of using them for FAI later this year, but I am hopeful of some new packs in the new cells from flight power in this range....
What motor, esc, plane are you planning this in?

Robert,
Part of the equation is also weight. If you can afford the extra weight go with the eXtreme 5s1p 5000's, in your first year of Advanced you'll have enough to learn that you'll need as much air time as you can get. Even with the TP 5300's I couldn't come close to two Advanced patterns (at least with last year's pattern). Nine minutes seems pretty short when you've got a lot to learn.
If you can't afford the weight then I'd recommend going with the Prolite TP 5300 5s4p cells. These are lighter than the 5000 eXtreme packs and will give you more flight time than the eXtreme 4200's.
Your first year flying electric you're going to be getting accustomed to how much throttle is required and 4200 mah doesn’t give you much goof-up room before you begin damaging the cells.

Yes, I agree. Weight is a factor. But if your not going to the nats. Who cares?? I haven't seen one contest where it mattered yet. Of course, I hear our district 7 contest may be handled with a scale this year. Might make for a low turnout..
I'm sure you have your experience with advanced Keith, as I don't with electric, still glow back then, but I know people flying Fai, thats could fly with 4200's. It's setup dependent of course. And also flying style dependent. It does take alot of getting used to, I'm sure.
I fly Masters at this point, and use less than 3000 mah, how can 4200's not work for Advanced? I guess if your not careful, I agree. If your new to it, I can see that would be easy, sure. I started with 5300's, found out I didn't need to spend that much. Switched to the 3700's and I'm quite happy although for most they would be marginal in Masters. I wouldn't hesitate to fly the 42 or 5300's in Advanced for sure.

My set-up wil be the AXI/F3A jeti spin 99, in the Comp Arf Integral. rumor has it they should be arriving the first week of Februray, so I am very excited. Have you guys heard of anything coming down the battery pike in the next few months? I don't want to buy a set, only to have the latest and greatest come out two weeks later[>:]. Thanks for your input guys it is much appreciated.
Keith what set are you using?

Last season I used Falcon F3A Pro 5300 5s2p batteries, after NATS I tried some TP 5300 5s4p batteries and was favorably impressed.
I've recently purchased some Falcon 5000 5s1p batteries to give a try; these are similar to the TP eXtreme and Flight Power 5s1p 5000s.
I think all of these are good options but I can't comment from experience on the 5s1p 5000's, though the data logs I’ve seen on these look much better than the 5300’s.
I can say without a doubt that I want as much capacity as possible so I don't have to worry about babying the packs or keeping my flight time shorter than 9 minutes to avoid exceeding 80% of the pack's capacity.

Made the first step today. called Pacific models, and ordered the Jeti spin 99, and AXI 5330. He also tod me that AXI is working on a new wind for the 5320 motor; which may be a suitable weight savings over the 5330. I guess now I have to get really good at soldering

The link below has two videos that are very helpful for those not familiar with soldering. Both "Soldering Deans Connectors 101" and "Soldering Bullet (Motor) Connectors 101" are excellent tutorials.
Unfortunately you do have to register to access the videos, but if you don't know much about soldering it's well worth the trouble it will save you.

I believe Tom and Don Atwood are running the spin. I really didn't see the need for it at this point. Tom is in Florida with a new job, I haven't seen him post for awhile. Don is busy practicing, not sure he's following this thread yet. I haven't heard anything about them cutting out yet. Did you read this in the forum? I would like to read it.
As for the new batteries, of course there are new packs coming out. I don't think I'm supposed to say at this point though.
You could call Richard at Pacific and ask him. He may have new info. Glad to hear you ordered from him by the way. He's a nice guy and has great customer service.
As for the new wind 5320, I know of it and that's all I can say I think.

You mean the Flight Power 17C 5350's that were supposed to be out in December but still have not been released yet
As I hear it, they are they are essentially identical to the TP 5300's for performance/weight.

I spoke to Richard today and he mentioned some of them were cutting out. He did not mention wether it was a full throttle or not. He could have easily boxed up the Spin 99, and sent it to me. He wanted to make sure that I was getting a product that he wouls stand behind. I beleive he is going to be visiting with Jeti on Monday, and hopefully whatever issues remain will be resolved. This is exactly what I look for in a vendor, and I will would be more than happy to do business with him again.

I have been running the Jeti Spin 75 (not the 99) in my Brio with AXI 5330/F3A and haven't had any problems with it cutting out. I have about 30 flights on the Spin 75. I do believe it will need a bigger heat sink in warmer weather but in our current 55-60F temps it isn't getting hot.
